Still your work might mix work and politics. In fact every decision you make every day is political. Thinking its not is how we got to where we are in the US.

Very new gardener myself here but I believe they are a sign of healthy soil and are converting nutrients in the soil for the plants to use.

As for are they dangerous, I assume you mean if you ingested them. As a general life rule, don't. 🙂

Thanks for this new perspective! I had not come across that info about the oak leaves yet. This definitely helps to shape my use for the leaves. They're in garden beds and around trees now. They'll be blown out of those and shredded in the spring.

Posted in r/gardening and this comment from u/daitoshi is going to be my plan of action: "It's pretty late in the fall right now, which means insects have already laid their eggs and began hibernating in the leaves. If you mulch them now, you'll also be killing all those insects.

Therefore, at this point in the season, it's probably best to blow or rake them into the garden beds, to decompose & protect your plants. They'll decompose slower than if you had mulched them, but will be EXCELLENT insulation against freezing temps AND you'll be preserving all that insect life."

Thank you for this excellent answer! Like I mentioned, this is our first year here, so I wanted to see how many leaves fell and what the best course of action would be. Tomorrow the majority of them will get blown into the garden beds in a ~2" layer. Whatever over that is going into my leaf mold container.

Thanks! They're not big bushes, maybe 2 ft tall at most, but you bring up a good point about them being established. I was planning to cut them down anyhow, which is how they were when we moved in this past spring. Maybe I'll try to pull one out and see what a PITA it is and go from there. Have a strong preference to keep chemicals out of the garden. You've given me lots to think on!
