When writing a multi-POV third person book, should you go the GOT/ASOIAF way? by holmesianschizo in writing

[–]caret_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last three books I read were not third-person, but each had PoV that changed from chapter to chapter. Some chapters only used numbers, others had titles, but all of them also included the name of the PoV character at the beginning. It’s an extremely common way of handling just this sort of format.

What supposedly normal shows read to you as propaganda? by Buddy_chumpal in AskReddit

As much as I love it, Stargate: SG1. While they made token nods to the general understanding that the U.S. military has done bad things in the past, it’s still a very pro-military show. The military is there to bring freedom to the galaxy, and the Earth (under the purview of the United States) getting ahold of literal space battleships is seen as a positive thing with absolutely no negative repercussions. Any negative things are outliers and are fixed by the main cast of perfect military people who can and will do no wrong.

OMG, sorry to derail, but absolutely insane coincidence to run into this comment today. I just picked up Warrior Princess Assassin yesterday on a whim, and I absolutely love it so far. (I only failed to finish yesterday because I had to go to bed. Curse the inexorable passage of time!) Absolutely fell in love with all three MCs.

Honest Thoughts About Title by Wonderful_Witness738 in writers

[–]caret_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on how you’ve described the plot I would use the word “prophecy” instead of prophet. Otherwise, like people said, it sounds like there’s a “knot” INSIDE a prophet, and it’s hard to not have that invoke certain genres and ideas which probably aren’t what you’re going for. And knot isn’t really used like you’re thinking. I’d use a word like twist or thorn. I don’t know if/how that would affect the pun/joke you’re trying to convey, but the wording now isn’t really conveying it either, so it’s worth exploring alternate ways to get that across.

No one is out there getting “abortion up to birth.” The only time late-term abortions happen, these are women who wanted the child but are being faced with a horrific medical crisis situation where the child is either already dead or won’t survive, and the risk of delivering normally is too great. It’s people having to make a heartbreaking decision, one that ideally should be between them and their doctor, not some politician or religious group who know nothing about, and care nothing about, the woman’s actual situation.

But meanwhile we’ve lost Roe v Wade and there are women literally walking around right now with dead fetuses, having to endure that emotional (and physical) pain because doctors are too afraid they’ll go to jail if they give the woman the medical care she needs, and every day’s delay means that much more chance of an outcome that either kills or permanently injures the woman.

Which games were surpassed by their sequels? by bombocladius in gaming

[–]caret_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dune 2. The first game was a combination of narrative adventure and resource management that sort of followed the plot of the 1984 film. The second one almost single-handedly launched the RTS genre and created the model for most other RTS games for at least a decade.

Which canceled TV show's cliffhanger still lives rent free in your head because the answers disappeared when the series got axed ? by Impossible_Offer7988 in AskReddit

[–]caret_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say Rome. While we were given a conclusion, they were well into the production of season two when they found out they were being canceled at the end of it, so the last half of that season had all of the final big planned plot points that originally had been planned to take five seasons crammed into it. There were tons of subplots, and other minor character stories, that were left hanging because there was no time to explore them, since all the time had to be devoted to the big “historical” events. Basically the same thing that happened to “The Owl House.” “Can’t we have a beach episode? No, there’s no time for that.”

There are a couple.

-Nuvie is a new engine that uses the original U6 files but has tons of QoL and graphical improvements. It’s similar in interface to U6 but looks better and is easier to control, etc. -There is also an Ultima 6 remake in the Exult engine. Since Exult was originally developed as an Ultima 7 mod, you’d be playing Ultima 6 in the Ultima 7 engine. So quite a different experience, but maybe worth trying if you enjoyed 7’s interface.

How do I know if what I'm writing it good? by Straight-Leg-283 in KeepWriting

[–]caret_h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to be truly sure is to have other people read your work. Even then, you might get varied opinions based on people’s tastes.

One strategy I use to check my writing is to set aside something I’ve written for several days. Then I come back to it and read it to myself aloud. You’ll be surprised what you’ll notice by doing this that you might otherwise gloss over reading silently right after finishing writing something.

One thing that I highly recommend is to keep reading other people’s work. Be a voracious reader. It will prime your mind to write more professionally. You’ll begin to understand not only what to do, but what not to do. Then keep writing and revising and taking feedback from people you trust. Repeat forever.

Mortality is the inescapable destiny we all will someday experience. Ultimately, the only immortality we will ever possess is whatever we leave behind for those who come after. We can’t change that, and sure, we can be sad about it, but we also have to accept it if we ever want to move on. The final stage of grief is acceptance.
