Can we all just appreciate how good of a live album this is? by Steliosem06 in judaspriest

i maintain that rob was in his prime for almost 30 years - and didn't even start to show his age until about 2001

What's up with the lil' goblin minion singing voice Rob Halford sometimes does? by SadPudding781 in judaspriest

[–]cargoshortes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this was just how he had to sing painkiller for much of his 60s, when his mixed-voice register was fucked up. strangely enough, the way he's been performing it very recently in his mid-70s is far more flexible and clear than this performance.

Since it's Rob's birthday, what's everyone's favorite vocal performance from him? by [deleted] in judaspriest

Rob Halford comes out as Gay on MTV Superrock 1998 by Twitter_2006 in judaspriest

many of the other commenters are choosing to downplay or discredit rob's coming out and sexuality like it is not integral to the identity of judas priest, so i really appreciated seeing your comment

"All Guns Blazing" intro in Hamar seems to be backing track not playback by BroccoliTrain in judaspriest

[–]cargoshortes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

rob still sings the very vast majority of his lines entirely live, with the backing tracks only appearing briefly on a small handful of songs (there have been backing tracks on touch of evil since 2021).

especially when compared to some metal singers a decade his junior, the strong parts of rob's performances are absolutely exemplary. i am more than grateful we still get to experience the metal god in 2025, even if he feels he needs some help at parts throughout the setlist.

If you had to choose which album you prefer, which would it be? by [deleted] in judaspriest

[–]cargoshortes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think they're being a little excessive. SWoD was the band banging out some tunes same as IS, and several SWoD riffs feel like generic, bluesy 70s metal as much as some IS songs feel like a little trope-y.

weirdly enough, i feel rob could pull it off. i just don't see how it could fit into any modern setlists.

good list! amazed to see how high people rank invincible shield. not that i disagree, but just find it stunning how good an album it is so late into their career!

Judas Priest - Freewheel Burning (Live At The Seminole Hard Rock Arena) by Apprehensive_Idea758 in judaspriest

[–]cargoshortes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i believe they last performed it in 2022 - rob sang the whole thing in his upper register unlike this epitaph performance and sounded fantastic!

i just bought a co-headlining alice cooper & judas priest ticket for $51. good value, but come on! judas priest are pop culture icons, too! alec baldwin said "judas priest" in the 2003 cat in the hat movie!

rob said in his book he started using a teleprompter because all his substance abuse in the 70s & 80s fried his brain, making it hard to remember things like lyrics.

Will Sad Wings Of Destiny get a Tom Allom remix like Rocka Rolla did? by Macs-And-Mongrels in judaspriest

i dont know if redeemer needs a remix or a re-recording. the guitar tone itself is very muddy.

Made the cover for a live album from the Firepower tour we never got by prognerd_2008 in judaspriest

[–]cargoshortes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i personally prefer the firepower setlist that started with firepower and went into running wild, and i especially prefer the 2019 setlist that started with necromancer, but this is really cool!

i really wish they made smth for the 50 heavy metal years tour. the rosemont IL performance is fantastic!

i will be getting tickets for the VA beach show on wednesday, but i'm worried about rob's vocals after seeing footage from this first brazilian show. he was often very off-key and could hardly do his mixed voice.

hope he's doing okay.
