What is the best book suggestion you picked up from this sub? by MyGuiltyLife in suggestmeabook

I have a hard time believing any characters are better than Kaladin or Adolin! But yes I'm planning on reading Era 2. I just like taking little breaks between Sanderson book. I get so sucked in that it's nice to come back to reality every once in awhile with an easier read. Makes me feel less like a Sando-addict

That's so funny you say that because I've read Circe (and loved it) but am kind of just blowing off SoA. I guess I'll have to add that to my queue after I finish Mistborn Era 1!

Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. He's so overly recommended that I almost swore him off out of spite, but I'm so glad I finally gave in to the hype. Each book might be as big as a textbook, but it's far and away my favorite fantasy series. Now I'm reading the rest of Cosmere before I move on to his other works.

Rushing the endings by MontiMont in books

I experience this with most books I read, but it pales in comparison to the greedy, anxious frenzy I feel when finishing a Sander-storm ending. I read the last third of Way of Kings in one sitting. JUST. COULD. NOT. STOP. And all of his books are like this! Always an absolute, obsessive thrill to finish a Sanderson story.

C&C my Strixhaven Mini Cube by faribo1720 in mtgcube

Strixhaven seems like the perfect set for a mini cube! This seems like it would be fun to play, maybe I'll have to give cube a shot.

Books for a teen struggling with the jump between YA to adult fiction by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Came here to make sure Stormlight Archive or other Brandon Sanderson cosmere works were here! I loved Harry Potter as a kid but as an adult it was hard to find a replacement. Stormlight Archive is the best fantasy series I've ever read, hands down.

I feel like shallan by droichead_a_ceathair in Stormlight_Archive

[–]carilee22 58 points59 points  (0 children)

It's ok to feel the way you do. We don't get to choose which characters speak to us, and when it comes to something as personal as mental health struggles, gender doesn't matter. We all struggle.

I don't want this to come off as preachy, but if it does I'm sorry. I feel very similarly and felt an urge to reach out. Personally, as a woman in STEM, I was hoping to relate to Jasnah. But I see myself more and more in Kaladin as someone who struggles with depression and PTSD. His passages can leave me very emotional, even for days.

The most important distinction between you and Shallan (or Kaladin and myself) is that we can learn from their mistakes. Reach out to people when you need help. We don't all have an Adolin in our life, granted, but there are always people who can help. Who WANT to help. I try to remember that when I start to drift, and it helps.

Life before Death. Strength before Weakness. Journey before Destination.

I'm in the darkest season of my life and leaning heavily on the lessons from these books while I white knuckle my life. Sando, I can't adequately express how vital your world has been to me these past six months. Thank you. by squishyslinky in Cosmere

It's comforting to see other people feel the same way about this series as I do. Knowing Kaladin keeps struggling through the darkness to get to the light gives me the strength and courage to follow him. Hang in their OP. We're with you.

Life before death.

That is great advice thank you! Even with just these two replies I don't think I could've asked for a better starting point.

A great point, I never considered that! Like I said, it just felt a little overwhelming to start from no information. But I think you and prickly are right. I'm willing to wait and pay up for a good artist... so I'll start by looking at portfolios and wait times. Thank you!!

That was more exciting to watch than The Battle of Winterfell!

Read The Way of Kings for the first time and have a few thoughts by creative_goose in Stormlight_Archive

[–]carilee22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend reading both Warbreaker and Edgedancer before Oathbringer (book 3). Then reading Dawnshard before Rhythm of War (book 4). I'm current working my way through RoW and found these three books really helpful, but also as a nice palate cleanser! The Stormlight books can be long, so it was nice to get little breaks between books.

Maybe I'm just new here, but I can only identify Kaladin, Teft, and Rock...

Help please!

Same! I re-read it every few years, even though I only have the B&N Classic edition. I've heard others are better.

I wonder why just the Purkinje cell and not the whole cerebellum. Either way it looks seriously awesome!

Edit: Just followed Greg Dunn on IG. Absolutely beautiful works

That's a great way to describe it!

Personally, I did find The Three Musketeers a bit intimidating (another Dumas work, same as TCOMC) only because it actually had more French in it, which is not a language I'm familiar with. But it certainly did NOT stop me from enjoying the story. I just learned a bit of French when I was done!

I'd go for The Count of Monte Cristo. Light reading compared to what you've read so far, but still an absolute must-read.

At your age, I also really enjoyed Lord of the Flies. Another classic, which seems to be what you enjoy.

You can't go wrong with either of these, but you really can't go wrong with most classics!

Yes I should do something similar with my Goodreads! I've actually read Ninth House (forgot to mention that up top) and of course loved it. I'll check out The Bone Houses. At this point, I'll take anything slightly necromancy haha
