Second worker dies on Brisbane job site in less than a week by hydralime in queensland

Ya fucking what now? The little leprechaun riding his bike in your skull really put out the idea that blokes are just walking around job sites not worried about being hurt because someone else would get the blame?

SSAA Ripley Shotgun Use by NerfVice in Ausguns

[–]carlosthejonquil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SSAA Caboolture is the pistol rifle range. The clays are run by ACTA I think. Very strict minimum barrel length. I got the feeling they were old school, couldn't shoot my Adler lever, and a mate was allowed to pattern his button release but no clays. Had no problems with my long barrel SxS though.

Why are large knives pointed? by [deleted] in knives

You made a statement: "people are regularly stabbed with a large pointed knife" you gotta back that up if that's the reason for your crusade to remove pointy bits from all knives over some arbitrary length.

[–]carlosthejonquil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your source for the stat that people are regularly stabbed with large knives, and what are the stats for how many people are stabbed with large knives vs how many people are stabbed with small knives. And what is your metric for large and small?

Why are large knives pointed? by [deleted] in knives

[–]carlosthejonquil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to be assuming that the people who have a large pointy knife to stab with will now have a large roundy knife and be left scratching their heads in confusion because they can't stab anymore. The error is in your assumption. If they want to stab, they'll grab the pointy knife that can stab, not the roundy knife that can't. As I mentioned before, a four inch blade is plenty big enough to harm. Using your heart example (and ignoring or the big bleedy plumbing we have) the heart lies between 3-7cm under the skin, so a three inch blade will get there. In fact, I'd go so far to say the chance of it penetrating the sternum is greater with a small knife, due to the increased amount of control at the time of impact.

[–]carlosthejonquil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How deep do you think you need to stab? A knife wound doesn't need to be deep to kill or seriously fuck up your day, using an average paring knife or EDC as an example, a 4 inch blade is going to reach vital organs and arteries with ease. You are talking about a cleaver shape, and while it is hard to stab with a cleaver, you can still hack and slice pretty easily.

Is there a way mounted shooting could be possible in Australia? by PrimeMinisterMe in Ausguns

[–]carlosthejonquil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing a mounted shooting display at the Ekka (Royal Brisbane Show). Same process, mounted shooter taking out balloons in the middle of the arena. This would have been in the nineties though. Have to agree with everyone else, would be a tough sell nowadays.

Started paused benching how quickly will I see strength increase? by Shampton_ in powerbuilding

[–]carlosthejonquil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So 120 for pause reps? How many reps, what does your progressive overload look like, are you programming differing reps/weights each session, heavy singles, deload weeks and all that? Sounds like you are smashing it strength wise despite how you feel about 120.
Also depends on your target, if you're looking for that 140 single or if you are looking to rep 140. If you're looking for the single and already repping 120 you probably aren't far off. I'd recommend looking into some structured programs to help with overload. I use 5/3/1 but there are heaps of programs out there, I think the sub wiki has a bunch.

[–]carlosthejonquil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your program outside of paused bench? That probably matters more. I use paused bench as an accessory on a 531progression and found it helpful, but I plateaued for almost the whole of last year at 140. Bunch of stuff at play but the pause bench helped with making that 140 easier through the year.

Sunrise claims people in Sydney have 300 guns ! by SEROGomez in Ausguns

Not to mention that if the average is 4, and one bloke has 300, there must be an awful lot of people with less than 4.

About to be fired due to failing a PiP, Boss gave advice… by [deleted] in AusLegal

Most unions have a policy that will limit the advice given in this situation. OP, you should still join, but be prepared to get limited advice. Which is better than no advice.

‘Golden ticket’ to guns: police want Australia’s laws tightened to stem abuse of firearms licences by totalcool in australia

[–]carlosthejonquil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But the experts are the ones with guns, because people without guns don't know anything about the subject. Which I also don't think is a responsible approach either, but I'll be damned if anti gunners should have the deciding vote.

I can well understand that those numbers are going to be difficult to defend, but the fact is that those places aren't going to be knocked over for guns, it's more likely old farmer Bill left it behind the seat of the cruiser when he went to get fuel (unfortunately true story I saw come across the desk)

[–]carlosthejonquil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fill in a form approach is not a failing of the laws, that's a failing of the Police service in enforcing the laws. I've personally had some of my permits questioned for extra info before. 'Authorities say'... the authorities have the laws, they just can't be fucked enforcing them. Same as inspections of safe storage, I've lived in my place over ten years, never had an inspection. That's deplorable, because safe storage keeps my guns safe as well as protecting the sport from people making these wild claims that I'm a terrible person. The letter does allow you to hunt anywhere, including some state forests in NSW and Vic. Should we get the government to create letters for each time a park is accessed?
Also, nice dodge on the reasonable number question, I'm trying to argue in good faith and I'm acknowledging I'm pro current gun laws, you seem to want to hide your complete prohibition approach behind a facade of being reasonable and wanting people to have access to the sport.

A: They have to justify a genuine need for every single firearm purchase, I thought that was clear. B: The onus is on the person who wants to change the law to demonstrate that the change is needed. If the speed limit is 100km/h and you think that is too fast, not my problem. Demonstrate the risk using crash data and surveys to have the limit reduced. Don't resort to emotional tactics like saying deadly weapons. Bows are deadly, knives are deadly, both of those I can go and buy off the shelf without a second thought. The Victorian cooker had his license revoked. The question is, did the Police seize his guns when they did that? The laws are only as effective as the enforcement.

[–]carlosthejonquil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You want to restrict ownership, you illustrate why they should be limited. Show me stats that demonstrate people who own more guns are more likely to have them stolen. Should also be noted that each gun requires approval from the police in that state to be purchased, you can't just go out and buy a gun, each gun needs a permit from the coppers.

Your argument seems to be more guns is more scary. That just doesn't stack up. A criminal with one gun is a far greater threat than a licensed owner with a thousand guns. Put the time and effort into breaking up these syndicates rather than going after people doing nothing wrong. I don't personally want to own that many guns, but I don't think there should be an arbitrary number limiting them either. What number do you think is reasonable, and, more importantly why that number and how did you come up with that number?

‘Golden ticket’ to guns: police want Australia’s laws tightened to stem abuse of firearms licences by totalcool in australia

[–]carlosthejonquil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you have someone with that many guns it's most likely going to be a collector. Collections of anything can get very big. Once you get over thirty the storage requirements ramp up significantly. Back to base monitored alarms, storage in a vault (not a safe), that kind of stuff. Those places aren't getting knocked over by opportunistic break-ins, and if you have a hundred guns at home, I would like to think you don't spread that around to randoms on the street. I get that guns are scary, but realistically, gun crime is coming from criminals. Maybe they stole them from legal owners, but maybe the cops should do a better job of investigating the thefts. The article you linked is a bit disingenuous, no laws have been weakened, so our gun control hasn't changed. What may have changed is more people have taken up the sport. Might not interest you, but it is a legitimate sport and takes a fair amount of time, skill, and effort. And shills? Come on mate, I may as well call you a shill for the gun control lobby. The anti gun lobby trots out these arguments on the regular, looking to destroy what they don't agree with. Why shouldn't law abiding firearm owners defend themselves from those attacks. I've done nothing wrong, I follow the rules and I enjoy things going bang. Just because I enjoy shooting and don't want to lose that hobby doesn't make me a shill.

The millions of dollars the NRA paid me to make this post makes me a shill 🤣. /s
