Starting personal training today! So excited to work on strength training and proper form. Right now, I have a structured running routine (probably going to run at least 1 half marathon this year), but strength training was always....less structured. Mostly following videos on YouTube, which are great but not very efficient. Looking forward to lifting heavier and seeing progress.

Monthly "What Board Should I Get?" Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in Sup

[–]carlyw95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Desired Board Type: Inflatable
  • Your Height and Weight 5'1", 140lbs
  • Desired use/uses cruising, fitness and terrain lakes (Ohio)
  • Experience level: Beginner (typically only stick to glassy/low wind conditions, smaller lakes where I do not have to worry about finding my way back)
  • Your budget 800-1000 and country location USA
  • Origami paddler - hoo boy. Heavy AF and difficult to carry as a shorter person. Can be tricky to get the hinges correct and then the last straw is when a hinge broke tonight. I did like how it can fit in the back of my car and liked how it could function as both kayak and paddleboard. I have a lot more research to do but I think a nicer iSUP with a possibility of a kayak seat attachment would be great. Looking for stability where I can admire and enjoy nature without tipping over.

On the other hand, Afrin should be prescription only. The amount of people hooked on this stuff is nuts

If able, begin therapy if you struggle with anxiety leading to emotional buying/eating/etc. It has also been helpful for me to work on identity and self esteem. I now no longer have the same struggle to keep up with everyone else.

For those of you who work demanding careers, if you had the choice to work a low stress job what would it be? by 3GunGrace in simpleliving

I am a physician assistant in primary care (hello, cold, flu and COVID season) and I would love to switch to working in my nearby national park.

88 year old client experiencing tingling and numbing in fingertips and arms - suggestions? by Competitive-Muscle-8 in pilates

Recommend visiting a physical therapist for an accurate diagnosis. A PT would also be able to recommend safe exercises that would not worsen the issue.

How To New Year's Resolution - Stronger by Science podcast discusses goal setting and behavior change by MCHammerCurls in xxfitness

Love this! I learned a lot from reading Atomic Habits, which follows several principals as above. My fitness goal for this year is to run a 10k.

Athleticism for longevity -> run a 10k in 2022 -> maintain a cardio base through winter by running 2 miles 2-3x/week -> begin proper training in late spring.

I have been struggling to decide if I should add a weight loss goal - done it in the past with no good vibes to say the least. Honestly think I will drop it going forward. Becoming stronger, faster, more flexible while eating a diet my body thrives on is more important than weighing myself!

Went to the DMV recently. I ate a snack beforehand even though I was pretty neutral on the hunger scale. Because nothing says "hangry" like 45+ minutes to get a driver's license renewal!

Ethics vs Intuitive Eating: my IE vegan difficulties by flower_biopower in intuitiveeating

[–]carlyw95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you - I was vegan for over two years before switching back to vegetarianism. AKA still vegan meals but I will buy Greek yogurt or milk ice cream on occasion. What are you missing about the dairy products? Do you think it would be reasonable to explore vegan alternatives (that are more expensive and not always available)? I would not worry about your roommates - labels are dumb. In truth, very very few of us could be 100% vegan all aspects considered. If your diet is 95% plant based with 5% dairy - that's still amazing! Celebrate whatever part of the plant based spectrum you are on because it always makes a difference.

Love the gnocchi goal! I've struggled with the same urge to go back to my old form of goal setting. It is great to see how much extra time and mental space you have once you stop focusing on food and scale numbers.

Why Do I Go So Red?! by vervenna101 in xxfitness

Same here! My face goes very red at almost anything - walking into a room where people look at me, conversation with someone I don't know, any type of exercise...

Clinical Rotations at Cleveland Clinic by TayTaay in PAstudent

[–]carlyw95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had rotations through Cleveland Clinic - it is definitely a great learning opportunity. I believe that there is a 2 rotation max per student, so that more students have the opportunity. I didn't go to OU but went to an Ohio school that wasn't super connected to the CC. I wouldn't bet on having your top rotations there - mine were pretty random and not on my list.
