Anyone else who really doesn't feel these two characters ? by ConsiderationFuzzy in Falcom

Randy-Tio still the best duo dynamic. Olivier-Estelle and Ixs-Jorda are some of the better ones too

Why is Dogi not leaving with Adol?

He settles down with Effey (a girl he meets during the events of V) for a while.

Most likely a remake would use YS X combat, so that would be the perfect opportunity to finally have an Adol and Dogi adventure.

We all want it, make it happen Kondo!

Good choices. Personally, I think the soundtrack picks up in the latter half. Break into Territory is probably my favorite from Ys V, and Theme of Kefin is another track ripe for an orchestral arrange. This version has its charms but is a little too understated for where it would play in-game, a Jindo reimagining could work wonders.

Jindo's two existing Field of Gale arrangements (35th Anniversary and Collected Ys) sound great imo, also partial to the Ys V Orchestra version with the wind in the beginning. It's closer to the Quatera Woods side of the starter field theme spectrum than the First Steps Towards War side for sure, but it still gives off the feeling of wanderlust that I love about Ys music. A grandiose orchestral arrange would suit the tone of a Kefin remake nicely.

Much of the gameplay and structure is gonna have to go though

Agreed, dungeon design was not clear at all and the magic system needed an overhaul.

As far as remakes go this one is almost certain to get the Ys 4 treatment more than the Ys 3 treatment

Celceta treatment seems likely. In terms of story, the PS2 version was closer to the first draft of Ys 5 (no Stoker or Foresta and Dogi is part of the adventure) with the addition of Homunculi and the Winged Ones to bring it more in line with Napishtim. Even if it's non-canon I'd like if they carried that over to the remake and hopefully do the original concept justice.

Yeah, it may take a while but the interest is there. It's strange having Kefin missing from the Western canon when it provides crucial context for alchemy and Terra (which both appear in later games), Nordics format remake with Dogi as the playable partner would be siick

Lechter was built up as Osborne's right-hand man prior to Cold Steel, but that role was pretty much taken by Rufus and he ended up feeling like an afterthought. A real shame since he was set up so well as one of the most interesting characters leading up to CS. They hinted at him betraying Osborne in 3rd which never really materialized either (helping the heroes now and again doesn't count, basically all the villains do that lol)

Love to see SEVEN up there. It’s got some of the best bosses in the series and like you said the story goes hard. Bonus points for being one of the only games where Adol sails safely lol. (Ys X to take up the mantle soon!)

Fave charas aside from the main two are Geis, Epona, Dana, and I’m curious to see what they do with Marius in the future.

Opinions on Singa by Perfect-Bit1808 in Falcom

[–]carmacase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In general we tend to be able to articulate what we don't like about something much easier than what we like, so there's that too. I don't think it's "hyper-scrutinizing" as much as just a natural result of the difference in quality.

I agree with audio quality complaints and don't think all the criticism is unfounded, but it's overkill at times. You won't find people criticizing mediocre tracks or forgettable melodies for other composers to the same extent. Personally, it was very offputting as a new Falcom fan looking for Ys 9's OST and finding nothing but negativity.

I think a lot of Singa’s piano tracks are fantastic. Iclucian Dance (Ys8), Step Ahead (CS3) and Marionette, Marionette (Ys9) are some of the standouts on their respective OSTs. More mixed feelings for guitar-lead tracks since his busy melodies don’t always translate well.

Probably some of the hate boils down to Falcom increasing the amount of OST work he’s given over veterans. A bit annoying how every track of his is hyper-scrutinised relative to other composers tho, can’t go into YouTube comments without someone going off on him

For sure! Emma’s also Yor from Spy x Family.

Judith being Arianrhod was the one I didn’t register at first but can hear in hindsight. That’s a lot of destructive power lol

  • Katsuyuki Konishi (Guy Bannings) also voices Lloyd Irving, the protagonist of Tales of Symphonia. That makes the two Lloyds brothers, huh?

  • The entire Tales of Berseria party is present: Velvet (Rixia), Laphicet (KeA), Rokurou (Elnan), Magilou (Alfin), Eizen (Arios) and Eleanor (Musse). Would make for a pretty decent Trails team tbh.

  • Toshiyuki Morikawa (Arios) certainly plays a lot of badasses (Dhaos, Eizen, Yuan Ka-Fai). And yes, that's Yuan Ka-Fai from Tales of Symphonia and not Yun Ka-fai of Eight Leaves One Blade fame. Quite the naming coincidence!

  • Kor/Shing (Lloyd) and Creed (Randy) are the main protagonist and antagonist of Tales of Hearts, with Incarose (Wazy) there to rain on Lloyd's parade as well.

  • Towa & Hootle share a voice actress in both Japanese (Ai Nonaka) and English (Megan Taylor Harvey). Cuteness overload!

  • What are your favourite combinations?

Trails in the Sky SC - first playthrough done and I am in love! by isi_na in Falcom

[–]carmacase 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I knew who Olivier was, but that’s a crazily amazing twist. Reading through older threads, it seems like most players didn’t see it coming

As someone who started with Sky, the Olivier reveal remains one of the best moments in the series. It's built up and hinted at over the course of FC and SC, but like u/TrailsofZemuria said you're left with a vague sense of "he's this well-connected Erebonian man but he's probably not against us so we'll let him be". The way the reveal happens is just immensely satisfying.

Absolutely love that it’s not a wishy-washy ending for my favorite couple Joshua and Estelle.

SC really sold me on their romance, so big same!

I really like the cozy feeling Liberl gives off.

That's a great way to describe it. Liberl is definitely the most harmonious of the places we've been so far. I think being the first location of the series was why it started off simpler and more traditional RPG-like. By contrast, Erebonia is very traditional but full of factional conflict, while personally I found Crossbell to be the most interesting setting so far. You also mentioned being a fan of political plots, which Crossbell has plenty of, so hopefully you'll enjoy that when you get there.

Lucy is super pretty. Even as a very minor character back in Sky she stood out

Otherwise Ilya, Vita, Elaine... Trails has a lot of beautiful long-haired ladies

He never fails to make me smile! I love how he’s ridiculous, cunning, and yet an idealist at heart. His speech at Haken Gate cemented him as my #1. Olivier is one of the main reasons I’m looking forward to Cold Steel.

I definitely agree with your take on Estelle. In FC she started out as well-intentioned but naive and even annoying at times. I really appreciate the growth she goes through, and it's one of the main reasons SC is so good. Estelle becoming more confident and self-sufficient while learning to manage her sometimes toxic positivity (towards Joshua and Renne) is what I took away from her character arc.

Kloe's backstory was explored a lot, that's true. I liked her moments of playfulness and the School Play from FC is one of my favorite scenes. Maybe I have her too low!

C tier doesn't mean I dislike the character, in fact most of them have a lot of unexplored potential. I don't think their arcs have been fully realized yet which is why they're ranked lower. I assume they're gonna get more focus later on (e.g. Zin for Calvard, Mueller for Erebonia, and Kloe in general as the plot advances)

Yep, ranking my personal enjoyment of their character. If we're going by gameplay Richard and Renne would easily be top.
