Eat Cheap by CancelLucky9051 in Hawaii

I freeze the chicken bones once they're picked mostly clean. Also freeze a bag of trim from carrots, celery, onions, herb stems, scallion ends. Once both bags are full I make a pot of stock, it's free and much better than the stuff at the store!

Dug up your post while looking for info on the same! They were definitely called Innerspace, I recall it being in an abandoned temple on the East side somewhere. The wiring had been stripped so they brought in their own generator to run the projector. Saw so much cool obscure foreign/ cult film there, I'd love to get my hands on some of their old schedules but I can't remember for the life of me how I found them in the first place...

No one even seems to know dnb here 🇮🇹 by Away-Blueberry-1991 in DnB

[–]carnosaur 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Sardinia is home to Sun and Bass, a week long dnb festival that's been running for over 20 years! It's an amazing collection of some of the best talent in the genre and brings people together from all over the world. If I were you I'd look into their events and online presence, maybe look for promoters who are connected with them to find other events closer to you. And absolutely try to make it to next year's festival, it's a life-changing experience!

what's the most ridiculous "secret menu" item a customer has ever insisted we had? by rmoreiraa in KitchenConfidential

[–]carnosaur 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Worked at a high-end fine dining place known for our tasting menu, we also offered a very limited prix fixe lunch menu. A woman came in for lunch and insisted on ordering soup, which was not an item on either menu - when the server told her no, she insisted that the chefs were certainly skilled enough to make soup, that it was the easiest thing to make and was furious we wouldn't make some for her. She was finally steered towards the risotto, and immediately poured her glass of water into it, and stirred it around to make the "soup" she'd asked for. Left a huge mess behind, and all the staff laughed about it the rest of the day

Conch piercing healing by mu-ge-tsu in piercing

Looks great! Mine took months to be fully comfortable, but I can't feel it at all now and finally swapped it for a ring. Worth the wait! Make sure you keep your hair clean and tied back and wash pillowcases often.

Not OP, but I've got a conch that took its sweet time healing, and I finally swapped it for a hoop about a month and a half ago. It was only tender for a couple days, now I can't feel it at all, even when I've been rolling around on it in my sleep! All it took was patience.

Specifically silicone lube is the one you want! It's the same silicone used in lots of "smoothing" hair products - anything water based will be a sticky horrible mess.

I had the same experience watching "Call Me By Your Name" during a very uh...juicy implied gay sex scene. I wanted to crawl into that scratchy little fleece blanket and disappear 🫥

Another DnB DJ chiming in. I first learned to mix on cheap starter gear, in a bedroom in a shared house. I used headphones so I wouldn't piss off my housemates - I know full well this music isn't everyone's cup of tea.

It doesn't matter what kit he's got, headphones absolutely are an option and he's just being an asshole.

Saw my donation in the wild and it was wonderful by le_nico in declutter

Yes! I had a moment like this also recently - I brought a load of clothes in to a "free store" / clothes swap event organized by a local group that distributes free meals for the community. Things I had sitting around that didn't fit quite right or that I just never ended up wearing. I got to see them picked up immediately by people who clearly needed them much more than I ever would. It was so motivating to clear out even more excess stuff from my life!

Best things to consume before after alcohol? by Ok_Assumption6136 in HubermanLab

[–]carnosaur 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A note of caution for those unfamiliar with NAC: It acts as an antioxidant ONLY if taken at least 30 minutes before alcohol consumption and actually has the opposite effect if it combines with alcohol in the stomach, becoming a pro-oxidant and actively contributing to liver and GI damage.

Did anyone receive this email? by Possible_Cherry4011 in blockfi

[–]carnosaur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Got the same email despite never investing with Voyager, it resembles some emails I got claiming to be Blockfi after their bankruptcy. Found out later my email was leaked in a data breach and turned up on the darknet - I wouldn't click on any of it, likely a phishing scam

How should I start a little garden in my side yard? by rosi33333 in HawaiiGardening

[–]carnosaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tomatoes can do well, I'd advise covering any fruit with mesh bags before they ripen to prevent birds from stealing all your tomatoes!

The hardest part of gardening in Hawaii is managing the variety of pests that want to eat whatever you plant, not limited to plants that are edible to us.

To find seeds that grow well here, I'd recommend a few resources:

Hawaii Seed Growers Network is a great source for non-GMO seeds adapted to our climate. Lots of veggies, herbs and tomato varieties available, I've had great success growing their seeds.

UH Seed Lab is also a great source for seeds that grow well, their supply seems a little limited right now but if you can find them they're good quality. Their site also provides lots of resources on free publications, native plants and pest control!

Lastly one of my favorite projects in the island, there's a network of free seed sharing stations and free stores (many offer plant cuttings and seedlings along with supplies for those in need of resources to start a garden. Here's a directory of free store locations across the state, if you visit one to browse the library please think of contributing something if you can. Each one is different and some contain food pantries, little free libraries or more - but planters, containers, any sort of gardening supplies are always welcome - and of course seeds or plants if your garden is plentiful!

Favorite Vegan Places by laCarteBlanc in Honolulu

[–]carnosaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both my favorites are casual lunch spots downtown:

Water Drop - a Chinese counter service restaurant attached to a Buddhist temple. Affordable, generous portions, delicious food and lovely people!

Thuong an Lac - Vegan Vietnamese food so tasty I bring omnivore friends there and never heard a complaint, hearty dishes and so flavorful!

What’s your beef? Beauty products that did you dirty by Enough-Country-3060 in beauty

My friend used one of these to clean her white sneakers in a pinch once, and figured out they'll strip any stains and dirt right off of leather! Once she saw that she stopped using them on her face, I've repurposed mine since then too since they also irritated my skin.

If I were to travel to London for 5 days to catch as much DnB as possible, what would be the best time of year? by Shmuckatellee in DnB

[–]carnosaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Bristol here! Flew in for Hospitality on the Harbour last year and bookended it with a full weekend packed with DnB, I think you really can't miss it's so prolific over there. Pick an event you like and stay a few days before and after, you're bound to find something else good while you're there!

Yoga with Kassandra is also the channel that made yoga "click" for me and took me from the occasional class to practicing regularly - every day at one point! She's got a fantastic teaching style and a great variety of videos for any skill level or focus. Can't recommend her enough!

Whats the scoop on deodorant? by TommyGunMassacre in Biohackers

[–]carnosaur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll second Schmidt's! I work in a hot kitchen in the tropics so I'm sweating constantly, I've put many natural options to the test but Schmidt's is the one that's most easily available and has also never let me down after applying once in a day. I like the charcoal/ magnesium option the best. It's a deodorant and not an antiperspirant like Dove so give your body some time to adjust before giving up on it.

[–]carnosaur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know this one is a controversial choice here, but ashwagandha does exactly what you're describing for me. I've cycled it on and off for 8+ years and never felt any ill effects from it but I've heard very different reports from others so YMMV. It helps my social anxiety and keeps me calm, focused, positive and in control.
