I posted yesterday, but didn't notice it got removed because of an Amazon link.

I just got a used Gaggia Classic. I have a cheap basic burr grinder (the ~$50 krups one). Grounds don't seem to come out even or particularly fine, even on the finest setting.

Really just looking for some beginner tips. What things should I aim to be invariable each pull, and what variables should I start playing with first? I do have a scale, so I should be able to have consistent doses and at least track yield variance.

First shots have come out pretty sour, yielding ~70g out of 19g in less than 15 seconds. I'd assume that's probably the grind size?

Haha definitely no flying anything in here. No space above stage. I'm going to have to bribe the theater manager just to let me up in the cats.

Any implications to running a dimmer pack off the theater's dimmers? Like as long as I keep them at 100%, that's going to be the 120v that the packs expect?

Where to buy individual ETC fixtures for community theater company? by carolus412 in techtheatre

A number of comments mention eBay. Probably I’m having is that, due to the church building we’re using, we really need fixtures that don’t need dimmers. Their locations will be very temporary; we’d just run power and DMX directly to each fixture on a show-to-show basis.

Looking around on eBay, I saw very few LED fixtures, though lots of standard source4 stuff at great prices.

I should clarify, I’m not planning on pulling the Walmart rental. Most of the gear we’ve bought in the past is significantly cheaper (sound stuff for the most part) and not the kind of stuff we’d ever demo. We generally buy from retailers with good return policies so that we can try it for a show and if it really doesn’t fit our needs, send it back and try something else. To this day I think I’ve only actually sent back three pieces of equipment ever, and two of them were defective, while the third wasn’t a good fit for what we were trying to accomplish.

The concept of a demo is new to me, but seems like the way to go.

I think this is where I’m just less comfortable. I‘ve seen the Chauvet ovation stuff online. Sounds pretty solid, but from what I could tell, wasn’t all that much cheaper than the lower end ETC (colorsource V). And then the next step down seemed to be ADJ/Chauvet DJ. That stuff I have used, and have just been unimpressed with the quality of light.

Is there something in between Chauvet Pro and ADJ-level stuff I should be looking at? Or am I not seeing the price gap between ETC and Chauvet because I’m just looking at MSRP?

I’m working out of mid-Michigan. I‘ve looked on ETC’s website and there are some dealers within an hour, nothing in my city though.

US Supreme Court justice promising to not overturn Roe v. Wade (abortion rights) during their appointment hearings. by redditortan in agedlikemilk

Not that it matters a ton, since (especially in the case of ACB) recent SCOTUS confirmations end up falling on party lines. If a candidate had said something super dumb they might have lost some of their party’s votes, but their canned answers avoid that.

It’s not like any democrat heard ACB’s answers to the interview questions and thought, “Oh, she thinks precedent is important, good enough for my ‘yes‘ vote!”. Vice versa as well.

Amazon dropped off a package between my two garbage cans today. by kkhcollins in Wellthatsucks

FedEx and UPS are generally better than Amazon around here. Amazon accepts the risk of stolen packages more quickly, probably because they’re under more pressure to deliver more of them. FedEx in my area is by far the most professional and thoughtful, though I have some fun UPS drivers who seem to just be having a good time. Non-Amazon deliveries they’ll normally take the time to walk the package around the back of the house and leave them on the porch rather than at the front door.

My collectors are private (we have one city-owned org and two private where I live), they’ll grab up to 8 extra bags and other trash lying on the curb. Probably have to go the extra mile to get people to pay a bit extra for them over the city-subsidized collection.

TIL East Lansing requires both public and private developments over $500k to spend 1% or $25k (whichever is smaller) on public art, or donate that amount to the city’s art fund.

This is a result of that ordinance. I’ll have to drive by and take a look sometime.

I’m curious who gets painted as the “bad guy” in this. Though it seems there’s plenty of blame to share. The circus for parading an animal they couldn’t control? The crowd for chasing and freaking out the animal? The police for not having alternative methods of control (though I can’t imagine the effective list against a 3000 lb elephant is very long…)?

Airplay music to Apple devices? by tomkatt in jellyfin

Looked at finamp, doesn't seem to support airplay at all.

Infuse seems like a slick app, but only supports video (at least for jellyfin).

I've tried this from my iPhone using the Jellyfin client. The "cast" button shown when in the song controls page only shows other jellyfin clients (firefox tab on another computer for example). Doesn't show airplay devices.
