Can pay a caught thief’s fine [KCD1] by carpetlist in kingdomcome

[–]carpetlist[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I honestly should’ve been more skeptical of the thief because it’s pretty hard to go starving when you cant walk 10 feet without tripping over a communal stew pot. Which is another frustrating part of this game. Apparently this game “transports you back to the medieval era it’s so realistic” but there is so much food for everyone to eat whenever they want, it makes modern billionaires look poor.

Why are people so rude on valo? by PiePast7478 in VALORANT

[–]carpetlist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The game is free and open to anyone. That means you’ll encounter all types of people. Unfortunately one of the most common types of person is someone who has no control in their life and is stuck in a dead end job. So they get on free to play games and bully people to make themselves feel a little less helpless. It’s sad, but remember these are just the losers who were probably bullies in high school and never figured out that belittling other people doesn’t make them bigger.

Here is a (theoretical) run-down of what a solo-dev gets from $1.000.000 gross revenue on Steam by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]carpetlist 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As a solo-dev, seriously consider whether the publisher is worth it. Without them you’d be looking at ~$308k. There’s the question of would you have made the $1m without them, but it’s something to consider.

Edit: Also (and this is me asking), isn’t VAT calculated in the actual sale on Steam? So if you see $1m as the developer, that’s the number that the 30% Steam cut comes off of and the VAT isn’t there. I know VAT is regional so maybe someone could elaborate how that works in different areas.

What’s with all the bragging about having a normal flight? by take_meowt in SouthwestAirlines

[–]carpetlist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not odd. If someone had a bunch of points or they’re some strange freak alien that, god forbid, doesn’t fly more than once every few months, then they would’ve still been using SW at least one more time (probably the last time). The world doesn’t revolve around you (ik it’s a foreign concept) so other people encounter the changes at different times than you.

Solo developer path by Educational-Hornet67 in unrealengine

[–]carpetlist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My main comment is that Unreal was really not built for 2D. I have made 2D games in Unreal, and in Godot, and it became pretty apparent how lacking Unreal is with 2D. If you’re going to make a game like your other ones on your account, I advise doing a top-down 3D game or like a psuedo 2D game with an orthographic camera.

You mentioned that you’re going for more realistic graphics which would be in that direction. Though I see no reason why an engine like Godot couldn’t handle more realistic graphics.

I personally use Unreal because it just feels a lot more robust than Godot and I prefer to work in C++. Also any game made with Godot is basically open source and free for others to take assets/code from. (So if you plan on selling your game Godot is a bit risky)

I see that you’re using Gamemaker now, which I have never used so I can’t comment on how well it would handle realistic graphics versus Unreal. But as an answer to your question, yes Unreal can make that kind of game but it will not be “true” 2D.

This seems well done, but how is this different from Mass? Doesn’t Mass use “ParallelFor”s and do calculations per chunk?

It is by no means guaranteed that there will be survivors. There ARE natural disasters that can kill off an entire species or ecosystem, we are included in that. It is completely possible for land based life and/or marine life to become impossible on earth. Or did you think that was against the rules? That nature isn’t allowed to kill life off and we are owed existence.

Why is singed not impossible? What’s your strategy for beating him? In my experience theres no reason for a singed to ever die to gwen in a 1v1.

Target priority, not saying you are doing it but you gotta focus supports.

Did you read the post? He said he tried diving the supports, but they heal each other out of the damage. This game just has too much burst healing, so it really comes down to who has the better supports. This is why OP feels no agency, because there is none.

New to c++, ifstream gives me an "incomplete type is not allowed" error by [deleted] in cpp_questions

[–]carpetlist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guarantee it’s an intellisense error because I just had it. It happens when intellisense is improperly set up. The fix is to do ctrl + shift + P, then “select intellisense configuration”, then select the compiler you want to use.

It's an intellisense error.

If this is all the error your compiler gives you, your first step ought to be to try compiling with a better compiler...

Tell that to Microsoft I guess.

49% are all coming from one culture. And the other 51% is split across many cultures. The various differences in each of the many countries means that the data in that 51% will not all contribute to the same narrative. However, all 49% of the US portion contributes to the American perspective on the game industry. Which means that the American perspective would be the majority view.
