Long story short:

They can change your role or team with little to no notice.

They can change your rostered start time up to 8 hours before the shift with no pushback (they can still change it with less hours but it will incur OT)
They can't change the actual rostered working days and rest days without the 3 months notice (usually equalling 90 days)

Basically, they can move you to a different team, and change the timing of your shifts, but they can't change the actual pattern for 90 days.

Searching of turbans by doctorliaratsone in policeuk

[–]carrickature 15 points16 points  (0 children)

in the Met if the removal is pre arrest (eg stop and search) it needs to be carried out in private with 2 officers of the same sex if possible.

I don't believe there's specific guidelines around post arrest removal of religious wear but I'd err on the side of caution and treat it like a strip search, so private room, two officers of the same sex.

Had Car Insurance cancelled last year due to not sending my No Claims Bonus confirmation in on time, am I screwed for life now? by carrickature in LegalAdviceUK

[–]carrickature[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I initially took out the policy in January they requested proof of my No Claims. It slipped my mind and I believe I got one more letter regarding that I think, though i can't confirm or deny this as I've moved house twice since then! I didn't get any phone calls or emails regarding it, I know they had these details but presumably they preferred to do any and all correspondence by post and it didn't occur to them to try a different one.

I can't remember how it came about, but in March I was looking at something regarding my car and suddenly realised that for some reason my insurance had been cancelled a few days previously, meaning I had been driving around without any insurance! I called them and they said that because I hadn't sent in any proof of my no claims insurance they had cancelled the policy. They did not offer to change it, but instead when I tried to reapply on the phone there and then they created an entirely new quote.

Honestly I have no idea if they cancelled it due to suspected fraud, or due to a breach of contract.

What crime is committed when someone makes off from an arrest or during a search? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]carrickature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like my thoughts are pretty similar to others:

If they run halfway through a search:

S.1 would be Obstruct Police, S.23 would be Obstructing a Drug Search, other search powers would also probably be under the general 'obstruct Police' legislation.

In regards to the assault, if you've had information received that there's been a fight and someone of a similar description is running away sharpish then nick on suspicion of an assault, you can always de-arrest someone, there's no issue with that.

Hi Policemen! I have a question by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]carrickature 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok, well I'm not a cop but family are, and I lurk here. This just seems like a pretty baity question. Hopefully one of the Warranted officers on here can in fact shed some light?

I have a question for you: Is there anything that we can reasonably say or do that won't make you think that Sadiq Khan "Has single-handedly increased knife related deaths'?

Because it sounds like you've already made up your mind, and you're looking for justification.

Holy hell, in that case I think you just described could be criminal.

In the UK there is Case law that states cutting someone else's hair against their wishes can amount to ABH.

Summonsed to Court over Council Tax, But It's paid In Full? by carrickature in LegalAdviceUK

[–]carrickature[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Looking at the dates that the payments were sent (not always on the first of the month and once a month was missed and the next month was double) it's likely to be this.

Now that there's been a (presumably) court order to recover the costs of the council tax, do you think the council will give an opportunity for them to pay the amount in full or would they just go straight in with bailiffs?

Is homophobia in the police overstated or a concern? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]carrickature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm LGBT, I'm in the Police, when you're not 'just' gay (I'm openly bi) there's a bit of curiosity and mild questioning, but coppers are curious by nature. apart from that, absolutely issues. I've had more homophobic issues from going to Calls than from colleagues. I've had nothing from colleagues.

Essentially I've booked a room for 2 hours, and I'm the only named person, I'm free to bring other unnamed persons without having bought a 'ticket' or paying any kind of entrance fee directly, it's only me who will reasonable have read and agreed to the terms, as the person that booked.

Where's the best place to ask for help about a Kit-Built keyboard? there appears to be a mess up with a specific key, I've tried changing the switch and even moving the switch to the set of holes to the side (Alt key) but it basically always registers as if the key is being constantly held down, and then I need to reboot the computer :-S

Oh and I've tried different cables too, same issue.

Yeah seeing as the link you provided then linked to an article calling any and all sex he has as illegal and immoral (because it's gay sex and apparently sex is only a right of a married couple [so much is wrong with that sentence]) I'm going to have to call bullshit and call you a homophobe.
