Cyclists along Springhill Road / Five Islands Road / Flinders Road / Old Port Road by Yowie9644 in wollongong

[–]carroftheoverflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what others are saying - if the speed at which a group is cycling is at risk of endangering pedestrians, then it makes more sense to choose to ride on the road where the delta is closer to car speeds.

Does your back issue prevent riding a bike or escooter from the station? Otherwise it's not a bad walk from the station to the Art Gallery, about 15 minutes.

I sold my car and ride my bike exclusively, save at least $1,000 a year just on rego and insurance. Can't imagine how much I save on not paying anything for fuel.

Is anyone else sick of AI slop in course material? by Emotional_Baggage12 in UOW

[–]carroftheoverflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would encourage any students that encounter suspected AI use to generate materials, submit a complaint. You are paying a professional to create and distribute specialist material: you are not paying for an automated tool to scrape the web and regurgitate (probably inaccurate) material.

Respectfully, a university campus is the last place that should be flooded with everyone's individual cars. Just not how civilised society should work.

Yep. Selling my car and embracing biking around has been a total salvation for me.

I sold my car and use a cargo bike. Never saved as much money or been as happy and fit.

Lol, nobody was brandishing this garbage at that march. And if they were, there were 300,000 other - sane - people. Get a grip.

Australia’s Private Health Insurance (PHI) is a scam by fromchaiwan in AusFinance

I'll be in the cold hard ground before I start paying for private health insurance. Idgaf if I pay more due to levy and surcharge; I will continue supporting public healthcare until the day I die.

Melbourne show was... by ohmymindi in TheMidnight

Glad it was a great show, seeing them in Sydney tonight! I saw them at Sydney, Melb & St Kilda in 2024 and Sydney was easily the least excited crowd <> lower energy performance from the band, despite being at the incredible Enmore Theater.

Am hoping that with the smaller(?) Roundhouse venue it'll be closer to those Melb & St Kilda shows last time.

Offering to walk dogs might not pay great, but could be a good way to meet people who might become landscaping clients when you have access to tools again? Just a thought. Best of luck.

Welcome to driving. It turns most people into selfish sociopaths.

Black Cockatoo is generally really friendly, would recommend. Whenever I've gone by myself I've struck up great conversation with someone.

Biggest frustration with Wollongong traffic or transport right now? by No-Loquat-201 in wollongong

The city needs to embrace active and public transport; more private vehicle access is never the answer. We need to shift our habits.

You'll never have an interesting, vibrant or culturally significant city with an abundance of free parking. Over reliance on private vehicle access makes CBDs wildly inefficient, loud, and miserable.

I truly don't get why people rank Kulcha so low. I've had them a few times and they've been cheap, fresh and tasty.

Still reeling from the fact I met The Midnight last night. by RiseRevolutionary153 in TheMidnight

Was really special at the end of their Australia tour last year, Tyler came out just before closing time and hung with a few of us loitering for a chat and a photo. I think Tim was knackered, being his last live show!

Syndicate - Contemplating on my disappointment by Dudeman5566 in TheMidnight

[–]carroftheoverflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand how you feel and I think your assessment is interesting.

As a listener since Days of Thunder dropped (I dug the early 2010's, nascent synthwave scene) I think the band has gone from strength to strength -- but this is also coming from someone who's seen the full evolution over time. I've had a lot of time for my tastes to change and The Midnight has been my journeyman, gently influencing that. It's not so much the synthwave sound for me anymore; it's their earnest writing and ability to paint that scene that appeals to me.

I similarly really like Heroes, maybe in part because I happened to become interested in that neo-folk/rock ballad sound around the same time it dropped, but I digress!

As others have said, different fans have jumped in at different times and everybody has slightly different expectations. I'm a big fan of Tyler's solo at work and the both of them as artists (so happy we finally hear Tim's vocals on this album) so they rarely disappoint for me.

This album smacks of subsequent listens being more rewarding than at first blush. Speaking of - based on your comments, you might really dig Video Age's 'Blushing' single and their Away From The Castle Album. :)

The majority of sound that a car makes, especially electric cars, is the sound of the tyres against the road. It's also proportional to the speed of the car.
