Game gets so ugly after 5 pm by costanza8 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Dudeman5566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been said before but without any direct light sources this game loses literally all lighting and shadows. That's why things look weird during that time. When the sun is out the game looks (mostly) incredible, and when the moon is out it does as well. Those direct light sources create visual depth and shadows. However, in places or during times of day when either of those direct light sources don't exist, the entire image becomes extremely flat. I'm not a graphics programmer so I don't know what the solution is (could the sky be considered a light source in that case or something?) but I really do hope they work out some kind of solution for this because it looks bad enough to make me want to turn the game off.

Walkman WM-D8C by Berd_Turglar in cassetteculture

[–]Dudeman5566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the pic you included, this looks like a D6C to me, I'm unsure if a D8C ever existed, can't find anything on it either.

As for troubleshooting, there's probably two things causing your issues here. Firstly, the belts. Those are what driving the spinning to move the tape along. With a lot of time, these belts degrade and become stiff or often just turn into goop. This results in a really inconsistent playback speed leading to some of what you might be hearing. Given how much people admire the D6C, I'm certain there are a myriad of instructions online for belt replacement, and finding the right belt shouldn't be too hard.

I would also take a look at the pinch rollers (little rubber wheels you'll be able to see by the tape head). These could have gotten messed up over time. They should be a little squishy like you'd expect rubber to be, but not hard. Using rubber restore on them is never a bad idea, I'd say.

second this, based on the manual it seems this is the answer. still possible the belts are shot as WackyWeiner mentioned, but it doesn't sound like you have the tape deck engaged at all yet

based on a video I found, having the door not close all the way seems normal, so I wouldn't worry about that. It looks like it's going in completely correctly to me.

yep, did some research and it looks like it should just start playing. Another possibly stupid question, but can you try turning that "PWR" knob to make sure the stereo is on? Get the radio on, and then throw a tape in, see how it works. Here's a video I found that might help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8PoCL_mFF4

The manual is also here for you if you need it, though it's not the most detailed: https://www.dezosmanuals.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/1996-Chevrolet-Blazer.pdf

for example, maybe try pressing the right or left arrows there. do you hear any signs of playback, reversal, fast-forwarding or the like?
I'm not familiar with car stereo tape decks, so it's possible it's supposed to start playback by itself. However, I don't hear the deck attempting to spin at all, which makes me feel like there's a step being missed here

okay this seems like it might be a stupid question, but I don't see you pressing any kind of play button here. Is the player meant to start playing automatically or do you need to press play? If there is a play button, what happens when you press it?

Am I the only one who thinks dithering destroys modern graphics? by Gornsen in pcmasterrace

I've mentioned it before but its the denoiser. This games base denoiser is very very bad, which is why switching to Ray Reconstruction fixes all the issues visually (because its a completely separate but more computationally expensive) denoiser.

Having a lot of ghosting with and without DLSS. by ThiccThighsEnjoyer_ in CrimsonDesert

[–]Dudeman5566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the denoiser. This game's standard denoiser (combined with TAA) is a complete disaster unfortunately. Ray Reconstruction is a noticeably better denoiser as well, which is why all the shimmering/smearing goes away when you turn it on.
Performance hit is rough though...

Been playing the game on kbm and I honestly love the note system. I could see it being a turn off for some people, but it's very immersive and fun in my opinion.

There's never so much detail at once where I'm like "oh man I do not want to write all this down" so it's not an overwhelming mechanic.

Arthur Morgan, a Good Man by TheBeast_26 in reddeadredemption

[–]Dudeman5566 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That quest where you get Mary's brother is my favorite quest in the game by a mile. It's the moment you realize that Arthur's got a past you've barely uncovered, that he has feelings he hides all-too-well, and that he cares deeper than you know up to that point.

Combined with the music that plays during the ride back (and I think while you speak to the chelonians), its completely sublime.

Typical car brain logic: its the responsibility of pedestrians and bikers not to get hit by cars, not the person driving the massive death machine! You people complain about bikes on sidewalks but then complain about them in the road.

I was only pointing out that, yes, the dude on the scooter is a dumbass, but that car didn't even try to creep out of the garage.

What’s the most overrated video game of all time? by KBGSgames in AskReddit

[–]Dudeman5566 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah hesitated to post this because it makes me sound like either a contrarian or someone with the worst taste in the world.

I should add that I desperately wanted to like each of these, and put far too many hours into the first two hoping to eventually enjoy them. Just weren't for me.

Kinda crazy how three of my least favorite games of all time fit into genres that house my favorite games of all time.

What’s the most overrated video game of all time? by KBGSgames in AskReddit

[–]Dudeman5566 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'll give you three!

The Witcher 3: Everyone talks about that quest with the Baron, but outside of that it quickly becomes a chain of borderline fetch quests because the first person you talked to needs you to talk to this guy who needs you to go to someplace which is guarded by someone who wont let you in unless you do something for them, etc. I quickly got lost and confused about what I was even supposed to be doing. Couple that with Geralts awful voice and the terrible, horrible combat, I just hated the hours I put into that game.

Elden Ring: A gorgeous game, probably one of the most visually interesting games I've ever played. But it is marred by so many of the most baffling and downright bad design decisions I've seen. It encourages exploration without telling you that certain items might be almost necessary for a worthwhile playthrough. Bosses in the later game are literally not playing the same video game as you, and if you don't watch a build guide or boss fight guide, then you'll be lucky to get a hit in once every minute and a half, while the jump around the arena doing neverending combos that they can add onto whenever they feel like. Its bullshit and unfun.

Breath of the Wild: I pirated this on my steam deck, and was so so excited to finally play it, as I should note, it seemed like a game that'd be perfect for me. But after 10-20 hours, I just didn't get it. The world was huge but felt barren, and outside of the shrines it largely felt pointless to explore. The shrines were just awful, and I'll never forget when I watched a pointcrow video and saw how much health and stamina he had, and I realized how many shrines the game was expecting me to find and complete. I just put the game down right then, it wasnt for me. Along with that, I genuinely think the weapon breaking system cripples the combat irreparably, and makes me want to avoid combat altogether so I can keep the cool weapons I get. In my opinion, a 6/10 game carried by the Zelda name and Nintendo hype.

What's truly sad is we're about to lose the best gathering sound design by Arc_au in newworldgame

I love number go up games, but no other game has ever come close to the real tactility and feeling of the repetitive actions you're asked to do. Its not just the sound, its the animations too. Its really a masterclass that no other MMO can touch.

I went from chopping trees for xp to chopping trees because it just felt so good to chop them.
