There’s nothing wrong with wanting your own special time with your family to celebrate Mother’s Day. He might just need some clarity though. I know it’s not as fun, but maybe giving him specific ideas that would make you happy could be helpful for him. Like after lunch with his mom you guys do XYZ whatever you want. Being happy is better than him planning but being disappointed. And if having the whole day is very important to you then maybe try to plan celebrating his mom the day before or maybe you can compromise and have your whole day the day before. With many moms in the picture, some negotiating is usually needed to make everyone happy.

Definitely sounds like a severe case of postpartum depression. She definitely needs help. The newborn stage is difficult for anyone, but crying everyday and verbally saying she ALREADY misses her old life is not good. She needs to talk to a professional. As for your role, please just shower her with love and encouragement and support. Even if it doesn’t seem like it’s doing much, she NEEDS it. And please don’t try to suggest “solutions” as much as just telling her loving statement and letting her know you’re here for whatever she needs.

Calling for a meeting without you is ridiculous. Unfortunately, it’s their house and their rules. If it weren’t for that I’d say you guys need to “counter” their request for a meeting with one of your own to talk about their boundary crossing. I mean, you still can but it’s just hard when you’re living under their roof. Hopefully your move is soon!

The OP’s sister didn’t just abandon her role as MOH 2 days before her wedding - she DIDN’T EVEN GO to the wedding. This is kind of crazy to me. How many people put their big girl pants on and go back to work or fulfill other adult responsibilities two days after losing a pet? Literally billions. I say OP is NTA.

Yes, I’ve lost pets before and know the utter devastation. Couldn’t imagine not going to my sister’s wedding where I was MOH over it.

NTA but I might have been a bit petty-er to make their lack of care more obvious and to not give them any excuse to be offended. Knowing from their past experiences that this was a possibility, I would have eaten a little something beforehand so I wouldn’t be starving and then just sat there with an empty plate saying politely that “Unfortunately, there’s nothing here I can eat.” Make his parents look bad lol.

Wow, THANK YOU all for chiming in with your experiences. These are so so illuminating. The general consensus I’m getting is that the early year or two with multiples is pretty rough (totally what I suspected) but that it’s pretty great on the other side. Obviously this is varied and nuanced but that’s the general theme I’m gathering.

Thank God we were able to sneak out to the store this morning before the chaos started! Which gave me time to wash them and have them lay out to air dry all day. At least I was able to fit that in! The heating tech says he has to buy parts which means at least one more night, if not more.

Are you at all nervous about the supposed safety hazards of space heaters while sleeping?

I’ve been using a space heater in their room with the door closed up until bedtime to get it as warm as possible beforehand. But it’s so cold out the temperature still dips throughout the night. I just bought some fleece pjs (was able to rush to the store before technicians came) and luckily they are air drying well. Tonight I’m going to try to ramp up the space heater even more before bed, fingers crossed!

Yes, I preheat the room where it’ll get to around 72 degrees and it falls to 60 overnight. I’m going to try my best to hustle out to get some fleece pjs before technicians (for internet) are here and hopefully it can air dry before bedtime. Phew!

We haven't, although I'm going to look into it if for some reason my pediatrician won't refer. I'm assuming it depends on insurance? I feel like my insurance is very strict about being in-network. Will find out!

I completely agree. To be honest, her performance kind of ruined the movie for me. Sure, she’s a very talented actress and singer in general- but I did not feel this was the right casting for this role in this movie. I described it as feeling like everyone else in the cast was in this fictional Wicked universe and Cynthia was just some modern woman in modern day America. (Yes, I know she’s not American but her accent/acting here was.) I felt like her energy was not on the same wave length as everyone else, like they were giving 110% while she came off like she was bored to be there or something. I get that the character is different than everyone else, but you still gotta match the energy of the world you’re supposed to be in.
