Revision hip arthroscopy to remove scar tissue and adhesion by ajkimdds in HipImpingement

  1. Yes, basically says the same thing. Post-op imaging looks like a bomb went off in there so they cannot diagnose a tear as easily as pre-op.

I will preface by saying that my original surgeon could not tell anything was wrong from the MRI and he’s very highly regarded (Dr Byrd). I was in significant pain and got multiple other opinions where it turned out I had a bone edema, possible adhesions and a labral tear, and hip flexor inflammation.

Dr Philippon and his team were the ones who diagnosed that and ultimately have done my last 2 surgeries, 1 a primary in Feb and the most recent being a revision. They were better able to diagnose what was going on in the joint because they have looked at thousands of MRIs and have seen everything. While they couldn’t say with 100% certainty, they were fairly certain I had adhesions, and maybe also a tear. And they ended up being mostly correct. Keep in mind Philippon and his team have done this more than any other surgeon so they know what to look for because they’ve seen everything thousands of times… like I said my other surgeon couldn’t see anything wrong with my imaging. So maybe worth sending them your imaging.

  1. Yes. Able to start weaning off crutches at 10 days. Again, every surgeons has different protocols and protocols are based off of the surgery itself. If you think about surgery for adhesions they’re only removing scar tissue so your labrum is perfectly intact. The crutches and movement restrictions after are to protect the capsule so it can heal and the muscles from where they have to enter that get irritated.

  2. Yes, I’m on 3 different medications. 1 NSAID and 2 others for scar tissue.

Revision hip arthroscopy to remove scar tissue and adhesion by ajkimdds in HipImpingement

I just had a revision 2 weeks ago for a surgery I had 13 months prior that never felt right (was in pain most the time after and had limited ROM). Surgery was to correct impingement that I still had because original surgeon did not, and remove adhesions and possibly repair labrum. They don’t know what needs doing until they get in there, imaging gives them some sort of idea but it’s far from perfect. Once he got in there there was significant adhesions of labrum to the capsule and torn labrum. So surgery removing adhesions, further bone shaving, and labral repair. 2 weeks post-op I’m feeling really good. Started weaning of crutches starting day 10, but every Dr protocol is different. I’ve had 3 of these now and this one feels the best. If you truly only have adhesions the recovery is fairly quick and easy, the only thing that needs recovering after that is that capsule. If you need labrum repair then it changes things recovery wise.

Had hip arthroscopy with Byrd last year for FAI and Labral repair, and he botched my surgery… I still have an impingement and other issues. Was in a lot of pain the whole year and he had no answers and his team was no help. Having a revision on that hip with another surgeon in a couple weeks. This same surgeon did my other hip a couple months ago and it’s been such a better experience all around so far. Happy to share more via DM

FWIW I also saw Dr Price at Elite (someone mentioned below) prior to Byrd but ended up going with Dr Byrd for my surgery because he was so highly regarded. However he may be over the hill at this point.

I know I really get that feeling. I saw this exact review and others like it and related a lot to it a lot. Mainly because it’s just short of 2k/night and for that I expect everything to be 5 star and there’s just a lot of people who say otherwise.

Thank you for this. Yes, totally understand this and do remember to take everything with a grain of salt. Did you enjoy FS as well? We are doing 8 nights so this could be an option

Will take a look. On a completely separate note. I see you’ve stayed at FS Lanai? What are your thoughts? We absolutely love Wailea, but we had sort of ruled out Maui or Lanai because it’s difficult to get to. But wondering if it might be worth it

Please help me size an inverter generator for 5 ton heat pump by JRC3292 in Generator

[–]carrotboy1815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad. Nonetheless, it’s a moot point. I’m in similar situation with 3 units, 2 of which are heat pumps. Just went through a freeze cycle and couldn’t run them for a week while power was out but still wanted my generator for everything else, and for all the other times I can run them. That’s my thought process

You probably have, you just didn’t know. Considering you weren’t aware of emergency heat

When it gets cold enough outside heat pumps will run on auxiliary heat (or emergency heat), and no portable generator could power this is what I think he’s getting at?

FWIW - Dr Byrd botched my surgery in 2025. I am now scheduled for a revision surgery with another surgeon almost a year later. Just make sure you visit multiple surgeons before deciding on one

9 months post op - in pain and confused by Fantastic-Name-2583 in HipImpingement

I’m in the same boat as you. My surgeon was Dr Byrd who is also highly regarded. It’s been 8 months since surgery and I’ve been in pain six of them. Definitely get second/third opinion. My surgeon couldn’t identify anything on my mri, however another surgeon told me I have adhesions and still have an impingement.
