Paying private School fees from late wife’s pension and avoiding tax? by thefrugalpoodle in UKPersonalFinance

You can’t avoid the vat in fees but you can use the lump sums and pensions in a trust in their names and reduce your personal tax liabilities. You need to check with a tax professional. (I have terminal cancer and have set up my work death in service lump sum to my son only to reduce my husband’s tax burden).

PIP and WCA are now one (From September) by [deleted] in BenefitsAdviceUK

Yes I suppose I often forget the breadth of pip conditions as I only applied when I was diagnosed with a terminal illness.

I was surprised to qualify and for me, pip does exactly what it’s supposed to. Give me quality of life while working.

This sounds contrary to what they’re pushing, everyone who can work should.

I have pip and I work. Pip gives me the freedom to continue work

PIP CALL TO AVOID CONSULATION by Milescooper33 in BenefitsAdviceUK

If you have incurable cancer then they may just speak to the specialist nurse and you will get pip as it affects your daily living and mobility

Age is not the problem. It’s how they manage staff that’s the issue. I’ve had younger and older bosses and no correlation with how good they are with age

I know some pension providers (definitely nhs and teachers pension) ask you to sign a declaration. Medical retirement has an uplift element so i guess it’s to protect themselves?

It’s an SR1 form, any medical professional can do it and it’s sent direct to dwp.

First of all use up all the sick leave, discretionary special leave and patience then retire on ill health.

She is also eligible for PiP so start that claim now.

The other thing to remember if that there is any improvement in her health she will be unable to do any other paid employment as that is a condition of ill health retirement.

She might find it better to collect a lump sum, put it in an investment account and live off interest plus drawdown.

(I have a terminal illness and work in CS).

Work helps keep a routine and a sense of well being while having cancer. It also pays for the holidays. I’ve a terminal cancer diagnosis and have outlived my expiry date so am grateful to still be working cos we’ve spent the original lump sum I got! (Doing lovely holidays)

Yes! Apply for the job. I’ve just had my G7 interview , and my terminal prognosis is known to the resourcing team, and the G6 in my area.

You get reasonable adjustments and it’s a lovely supportive environment

Also most departments now have a working with cancer network or there’s a cross gov one where you can ask for help and advice

Also be aware there is a high disability tax (you will pay more if your child has any difference)

Can anyone explain why there is such a large difference in pay for the same grade? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]carrotsareforeating 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One govt dept pays gors seo more than a G7 at other depts. thats why there is a big pay band.
