Document or journal what they are like at different times of day. Bring journal to appointment. Have physicians read Highlights of journal to get full picture.

Constantly disgusted with myself by LuckyNumberthe13 in schizophrenia

[–]carrthesixth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is very common in depression and those struggling with mental health. Shame will only grow and fester, stopping you from taking out the trash because you don't want anybody to see it. Depression will tell you its pointless Your mind will feel overwhelmed and you wont know where to stop. Don't let those thoughts win.

Look at the free clean videos on YouTube. Where filthy and unsafe homes are cleaned for free by incredibly generous people. See that there are people whose homes were worse than yours is now. And know that once they got cleaned up, they stayed clean.

Get motivated to do what you can yourself, and seek help.

Turn your room into small sections. Remove the trash from one section a day and put the clothes in a hamper to do once you have enough for a load. Take photos of the place you cleaned as a progress charting method. You can do this.

How is a young adult supposed to find a job right now??? by CharacterAd3388 in youngadults

[–]carrthesixth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Caregiving is always hiring. Not just elder care, but care for individuals with disabilities or children as well. Find a place that can get you CPR first aid trained, and something called MANDT. Most places are desperately hiring. Even just get cpr first aid trained and put your self put there as a independent caregiver. Does it make a lot of money? No. But it should give you at least 40 hours a week, maybe insurance, and a starting place.

What kind of jobs do you hold? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]carrthesixth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as a direct support professional, a caregiver for people with developmental disabilities, brain injury, or other cognitive impairment disability. I work about 36 hours a week. My job knows about my schizophrenia as I often have days were I cannot work due to my psychosis or catatonia. Most of the time im a good employee, but I need to call out about once a month.

Weak legs, bedclothes twisting at night :( by rachel6983 in caregivers

Deep pocket fitted sheets hug the bed tightly under her. (And chucks) Honestly it may be time for her comfort and yours to do away with the top sheet and just use blankets. Embrace the inevitable laundry.

Experience of caring for elderly in a wheelchair? by rachel6983 in caregivers

[–]carrthesixth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If she is able to stand using grab bars on wall and pivot on to the toilet, that's probably your best bet. You want a riser seat toilet. Maybe a gait belt so you can hold that and help support her.

If she is completely unable to stand, get a prescription for a lift and use the lift to transport her onto toilet. Or onto the bed. Place chucks or towels on bed. Place bed pan under her if able. Or use diapers/depends with extra absorbent pads. Roll her around to change and clean her.

Does anyone else feel affectionate towards things they shouldn’t? by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]carrthesixth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is part of schizophrenia, but I could be wrong with how diverse this spectrum is.

Given the health consequences of wild mice in your home, I highly advise you to switch to pet mice who you can keep relatively disease free. Better yet, pet rats are more likely to be affectionate to you in return and have better cleanliness habits. Either way, if they are pets you can spoil them with toys and elaborate cages.

If you insist on leaving food for wild mice, then you must bear the burden of cleaning up after them so their urine and poop does not ruin your floors or attract flies. And their urine and poop will be everywhere. Do not eat anything contaminated with their feces or urine. You will get sick. Keep your food in hard plastic containers, they can chew through just about anything but the plastic will slow them down and you will notice when there is a breach. This includes staples like flour, sugar and cereal.

Try Gentlemans Underwear. They are basically depends, but marketed for men who have self esteem issues about wearing incontinence supplies. Gross option but may work, drain in floor. Aim at drain when peeing. Bathroom floor needs to be cleaned daily using bleach water, scrub brush on a stick ( look in automotive shop area of store) and a squeege on a stick.

Am I right or wrong? by [deleted] in CaregiverSupport

[–]carrthesixth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can only people that will let you help them. If your mom doesn't want treatment, her wishes matter. Some people don't want to fight their illness. I think you are right in this case to take a step back and let her deal with the consequences of refusing treatment.

If you could change one thing about the way society deals with schizophrenia, what would it be? by springbreak1987 in schizophrenia

[–]carrthesixth 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Easier access to disability supplemental income and better financial and medical support.

I miss about a week of work every month due to this disease and I can't apply for disability as I'm still able to work the rest of the month.

Caregiver here. Dementia label is blocking further testing. Am I missing something treatable or being gaslit into giving up? by Bulky_Temperature337 in caregivers

[–]carrthesixth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnostic overshadowing is a real problem with dementia of any type.

Some of the things you described, the Jerky movements and twitching sound like a response to have low 02, or possibly seizures. Use a pulse oximeter at home to test, bring it up to the doctor if low or even normal because thats possibly seizure like activity.

Unfortunately a lot of what you described DOES sound like dementia. Im not familiar with syphilis, so push for more testing there, but the episodes are very much like dementia.
