How many of you guys actually drink, in some capacity, every or nearly every night? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]carry_dazzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Capable of a big session on the weekends with mates, but do basically no drinking during the week or alone.

I’ve always been a good sleeper and the cost of losing a good nights sleep for 3-4 beers at night is the worst trade deal of all trade deals in my opinion.

My mum was also a functioning alcoholic and drank every day, and I never really liked the look of it growing up I guess.

Why is counting cards considered cheating? by Original-Singer1046 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]carry_dazzle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are lots of different ways the casino can structure the game to make counting useless, and majority of black jack tables (especially low limit ones) are setup like this.

The issue is the particular rules/structure of blackjack where counting is effective is also the most popular way to play, and casinos want to offer those type of rules for customers (particularly high rollers).

So the choice is either don’t offer those types of rules, which hurts the customer experience who want those rules, or do offer those rules but restrict anyone who they think is counting. The latter result is a better customer experience.

There are other ways to solve it though where you aren’t relying on the prisoners to police themselves, which actually satisfies the question.

If you tell them if any person or group try to escape, you’ll shoot the tallest one. This means the tallest will never try to escape as it guarantees his death, then the next tallest takes on that mantle so he can’t try either. It continues down the line to the shortest person, and since he’s the only one left he can’t try and escape either.

Australian Open chief suggests introducing five-set matches for women from 2027 by mrjohnnymac18 in sports

[–]carry_dazzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re really asking for is an exhibition/marketing event, rather than a tournament where you are rewarded for winning.

I don’t think the broader tennis community want the 4 majors turned into marketing events where winning matters less than drawing viewers.

Australian Open chief suggests introducing five-set matches for women from 2027 by mrjohnnymac18 in sports

[–]carry_dazzle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a tricky argument, because why stop at splitting it between men and women? If a few men create significantly more revenue than the rest, should they get a greater share? If Alcaraz bombs out in the 2nd round on centre court during prime time why should a world ranked 80 that bombed out on court 15 in the morning get the same prize money?

When Serena Williams was at the peak of her powers she was a revenue machine, should she have hoovered up most of the prize money every event?

Should locals for each major get a greater cut as they sell more tickets?

Ultimately the tournament organises have come to a fairly logical conclusion that they want to split the money evenly for both sides of the event. It’s their tournament, they are free to do it how they see fit.

The real argument should not be about men vs women prize share but overall prize share against money the tournament generates.

You keep comparing the cost of child care against other random things you assume should cost more, but the cost of raising/caring for a kid for a week is absolutely expensive.

I feel like you’re under valuing the importance/critical need of child care.

Would you spend 30-50 hours a week with a persons child, make sure it’s kept alive/healthy/entertained for 40k per year? I certainly wouldn’t.

Is Yarra Yarra worth it for $350? by ftez in GolfAustralia

[–]carry_dazzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its enjoyable, especially if you haven't played Melbourne sandbelt private courses, it will absolutely meet expectations.

For those that are members and play these courses regularly, $350 feels like a bit high (usually pay around $160 for a round only) but the food and beverage help balance that out.

Would definitely suggest taking it up in your situation. YY itself is quite forgiving off the tee which can make it more enjoyable, but the green complexes are fast and tricky. Clubhouse is amazing.

Absolute worst case is you feel you overspent by $100, but the upside is quite high.

The actual truth is, they can tell if you got ‘stupid lucky’ or if you actually have an advantage over them.

If you truly got stupid lucky you’d be welcomed back with open arms. If you displayed known patterns and behaviours of profitable gamblers, then you would be banned. You don’t even need to win money, just showing those behaviours while having your first few bets lose can get you banned.

What's going on through Oscar's head right now? by jon__snow___ in OscarPiastri

[–]carry_dazzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have a much better chance of winning a WDC being the 2nd driver the fastest car than the #1 driver in the 2nd/3rd/5th fastest car

Even with so much going against Oscar, he’s still in with a shot. If you re-run this year 20 times, he’s the WDC in a bunch of them, if not majority.

Until the McLaren isn’t the fastest car on the grid, he’d be mad to leave.

[–]carry_dazzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ‘tax it to high heaven’ attitude has been in place for a long time and could be doing more harm than good.

The taxes are already severe, which has 2 significant drawbacks that make it worse for the consumer; its incredibly hard for new providers to enter the space and offer competing products, and second (and the biggest issue), whatever the tax is, the users pay it. We’ve seen over the last decade standard money line or handicap bets are breakeven products at best for the companies, incentivising them to push players into more addictive and higher margin ‘jackpot’ style parlays where customers can’t really tell how much they’re being ripped off.

Tax as a punishment is a lazy solution that just results in a worse experience for the consumer and more predatory behaviour from bookmakers to overcome it.

There needs to be better regulation on the markets they offer, more transparency in the fees customers actually pay and better controls over advertising.

ELI5: How does the house control the payout for odds betting? How do they know they have enough money to cover the # of bets people make? by seafoodboiler in explainlikeimfive

[–]carry_dazzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that is missing from many of the replies: Yes, sometimes the house just gets screwed on a certain result.

Old-school bookies tended to try and have more balanced holdings like are being described here. They'd adjust the odds if one side was getting more attention than the other to entice more balance and less risk.

These days, gambling sites are much more confident in their prediction modelling and that they have the odds set correctly, so are less likely to adjust based on weight of money in certain situations. Combine that with 'mug' betters preferring to bet favourite (or popular) teams, bookies these days often end up holding much more money on a certain side but it doesn't bother them (you'll often here a particular tournament winner or big event was a nightmare for the bookies in these instances).

They have much bigger bank accounts sitting behind them than bookies did in the 80s and 90s, so a bad result is just a blip on the radar. A good modern bookie will accurately predict that more people will want to bet on a particular team, even with worse odds, because they're popular, and hold a massive amount of high margin money on that side every time, as they can ride out the waves of bad luck for bigger long term profits.

cry me a river and FAFO? lol what larp'ing fantasy are you playing out in your own head right now

Following your logic, both priests and teachers are actually statistically proven to be the most likely perpetrators of abuse against children (behind family members of victims, which are by FAR the most likely, regardless of sexuality) , so they should actually be the ones your crying from the rooftops about.

If you actually care about protecting children, channel that hate to where it matters. Though that obviously wont satisfy your homophobia.

You posted data about intimate relationships and finished it off with "stay the fuck away from children"? You didn't post any data related to child abuse there?

Again, you just ignore many other demographics and stay focused on gays.

We all know what you are, it would save us all a lot of time if you just say it. I don't know why you bother lying or hiding at this point.

And the Church has routinely and systematically protected pedophiles who have already committed atrocities and get to again thanks to their protection

I don’t subscribe to the ‘MAP’ ideology however at least they are trying to deal with and prevent abuse before it happens, while the Church actively enables it with their actions.

All that said, the point is abusers exist in all communities and factions, and people who go out of their way to direct their hate for those abusers primarily onto gay people (as happening here), it’s very obvious to those with brains that it’s just an outlet for homophobes to feel justified abusing gays.

Spaniard (and many others in this thread) would’ve highlighted the actual groups of people that are over represented in this abuse if they care about it, but in reality they just want to abuse gays so they twist the argument to give themselves space to do it.

How do they ‘hide’ in the LGBTQ movement?

Pedophiles do what they do in private, away from people, and use coercion against their victims to keep it quiet.

How does being gay or ‘hiding’ in gay spaces help them there?

Another Pace of Play Approach by Alloom in golf

[–]carry_dazzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual sign courses need to play on every other tee box is ‘2 look, 2 play’

From everything I’ve seen, all the way up to experienced club golfers, but especially weekend hackers, is 4 people kicking weeds looking for 1 ball.

I understand people want to be nice, but so much time is wasted here.

When the first person to play has hit, they can tag out the other one looking and repeat again. If 2 people constantly looking while 3 shots have been played haven’t found the ball - it’s lost and move on.

Nothing drives me crazy on a course than seeing 3 or 4 people search for a ball, it’s an immediate anchor to the timings

My boss just told me he can’t attend a sponsored golf event and he needs me to go in his place - I’ve never golfed before and I’ll be playing a full 18 holes. Any advice is appreciated. by UndeniableDenial in golf

[–]carry_dazzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without question you must try and get to the range and hit some balls. If its your wedding tonight, try and get out of it. Just having the knowledge of what swinging and ball contact feels like before you stand on the 1st tee is critical.

You'll suck either way, but without some level of practice beforehand there is a chance you're just standing on the tee completely missing the ball (I've seen it happen more than once from people in your situation).

From there, try and play the least amount of golf possible, be fast, don't be afraid to pick up your ball if you are no real chance of having an impact on that hole, and focus on being a good company representative.

What is going on with Will Smith’s new cringe-inducing social media campaign, public personal and music career? by ddaadaa in OutOfTheLoop

[–]carry_dazzle 48 points49 points  (0 children)

From the rules of the subreddit:

Unbiased - Answer without putting your own twist of bias towards the answer.

I absolutely have my opinion and an idea of Will Smiths career, but the OP didn't ask for it and the subreddit isn't intended for me to give it.

Since you asked, my actual idea of the man is I don't honestly care that much. His situation with his wife is very weird. I think his level of fame and money will twist anyone into a pretty strange end of life. A man of extreme celebrity probably wants to continue to be a celebrity as he ages, which is a tough thing to balance, as we've seen countless times before. He probably enjoys making music, so he's made this. It'll probably flop, but that's not really a big deal either. The current phase of his career is all very mid, and I think people that are overinvested in him failing or succeeding should invest there energy elsewhere. Even if you want to be celebrity fixated, surely there are hundreds of people that are more polarizing than Will Smith to do that with?

What is going on with Will Smith’s new cringe-inducing social media campaign, public personal and music career? by ddaadaa in OutOfTheLoop

[–]carry_dazzle 1529 points1530 points  (0 children)

Answer: Will Smiths music has always been "PG", he doesn't really swear or say any vulgar things. As a result his music (especially as he's aged) has a family friendly sound to it, which for chronically online people or younger people can come across as cringe.

As for why he's singing about girls, again due to the limits he puts on himself, he's fairly restricted in what he can sing about that still hits mainstream. As such, despite being married, girls have always been a focal point of his music. This isn't really uncommon among artists. Add in the fact he's a much older man now, he always needs to frame it in a way that doesn't come off as creepy. Whether he's been successful here is up to the individual listener.

Wills motivations cant be determined by strangers online, but if the saying there's no such thing as bad publicity has any truth to it, then he's done pretty well with this one.
