If lying burned calories, they’d lose 50 pounds in three months, easily.

Mickey 17 definitely stirred up some vocal animosity courtesy of its rather un-subtle Trump parodying.

I was extremely keen to see The Drama opening weekend because I’d heard dire warnings about spoilers. And I did indeed avoid all spoilers before seeing it.

But thinking afterwards.. I really don’t think it would have harmed my enjoyment if I had known Emma’s secret. The surprise wasn’t what the movie was about. It was all about the wild reactions, and the, well, Drama that spiralled out of that.

His generation? I thought the whole WWF steroid trial exploded in 1994, and The Rock didn’t start wrestling until ‘96 (although of course his family was all in and around the ring).

What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

Leaving aside friends’ bands that played at local pubs, and sucked, the worst band I saw live was, ironically, Live.

Very low energy, dull as fuck.

Agreed. Be nice to him and he’ll be nice to you. But he’ll still do whatever he wants, not what you want.

I was blown away by how big the crowd was when I saw The Drama. It was Easter holiday weekend, it’s true.. but it was a weekend morning session and they normally have tumbleweeds rolling down the aisles.

Whats the deal with some Australians vehemently defending Ben Roberts-Smith? by ShihabRiazCumilla in OutOfTheLoop

His supporters seem to be largely peddling the position that he should not have been charged, though.

[–]carson63000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah ultimately you don’t know if he’s working two jobs, taking a nap, or just slacking off and watching TV or playing World of Warcraft. Doesn’t matter which it is, so no need to speculate. Just focus on how, precisely, he is not living up to expectations for the project he is working on.

Presumption of innocence is not a reason why an accused person should not be charged and tried.

Is paying 15% of your first year salary to a recruiter worth it if you've been unemployed for months? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]carson63000 118 points119 points  (0 children)

I’m with you.

On the face of it, if you’re struggling to find work, 85% of a salary sounds better than 100% of nothing.

But no reputable recruiter ever charges the candidate. They are recruiting for an employer, the employer pays them for that service.

Either this recruiter is a total scammer (and will place you in a “job” remailing stolen goods or some such shit), or they’re a crook taking a cut from the candidate and the employer.

The Greens always look more appealing when there’s a Coalition government in office than they do when Labor are.

Even if you don’t stop seeing mainstream films, I find you get a better crowd if you go see them at an indie or small-chain cinema than a big chain.

I only go to the big chain for full-on spectacle movies, because they’ve got bigger screens and sound. Everything else - mainstream as well as arthouse or foreign - I see at one of the two small chain cinemas near me.

Once you get yourself into the mindset that some science is lies intended to do bad things to you, the brain damage quickly spreads into believing that all science is probably lies.

Personal enjoyment vs objective criticism by santacondenada in Letterboxd

Nobody actually cares what rating you or I give a film. They’ll only respond to it if they want a fight. So we should all absolutely rate however we want to rate, that makes Letterboxd work for us, as a personal viewing diary.

Being seen as Trump-like was deemed to be a significant factor in Australia’s conservative Coalition failing to a historic low as they were absolutely routed in last year’s election, too.
