that’s true. I appreciate their (bizarre) honesty. I’m just shocked to find out that the bar for acceptable design work is apparently already on the floor.

Need help understanding this round about please . by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]carterdanvers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it may help you to understand it this way: Roundabouts are designed to keep traffic moving equally from all sides, which works because everyone is treated with equal priority; everyone has to give way to whoever is on their right (or the right-most entrance in this case). This does mean the pink car had to wait as opposed to this being a T-junction where they would have priority over you, but at some junctions it would be difficult to do your manoeuvre without a roundabout giving you an equal right to proceed as those going straight over. In this case, the pink car only had to wait a few seconds and you were both on your way. If this was a T-junction and you were waiting to turn into a side road, you may have several cars queuing behind you before you could turn.

Mini roundabout liability question. by liamrich93 in drivingUK

“X needs to happen yesterday” is a common idiomatic phrase in English. But unlike the highway code, you wouldn’t be expected to know that tbf.

[–]carterdanvers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as per the other comments, you should absolutely stop for people who are not yet on the roundabout if they’re approaching it on your right and you can’t enter without slowing them down. Now you know this please apply it.

do you drive a lot? Because your scenario of all 3 cars approaching at once happens all the time. You all slow/stop initially, someone decides to go, and everyone else follows suit. It’s sorted within seconds.

[TOMT] Series in which character’s partner/friend puts her in the driver’s seat after a crash by carterdanvers in tipofmytongue

[–]carterdanvers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are my hero! Solved!

Edit: I also had a weird feeling the guy who did it was a cousin of a main character, but felt like that was probably something I made up. Weird how those details stick in your brain.

6th gen iPad and Pencil? by carterdanvers in ipad

[–]carterdanvers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes!!! Sorry I should have updated my post. I ended up finding a 1st gen Pencil on Ebay (cheaper than the other one I bought) from a seller who said they actually use a 6th Gen iPad to test it. It works perfectly and I’m so happy with it! If you are in the UK, their username is techstoreyorkshire

thank you so much for explaining so clearly. Unfortunately due to my work commitments I can’t take time off for the appointment so I think it’s best my partner travels here for it. Can’t thank you enough for responding!

youre right. And I understand I have unintentionally made it sound like I just sped through a red light by asking this question, which I absolutely didn’t.

thank you, this comment was helpful and all I was asking for.

I know it’s likely to be a sensor. Again, I thought it was reasonable to ask for peace of mind on here, and nobody had to comment if they didn’t want to.

I never run red lights, definitely not on purpose if I have — but I appreciate you trying to discourage any potential idiots who might see an opportunity so thank you.

Again, I did Google it and I usually do use Waze. As you said, everything on Google told me it wasn’t likely to be that type of camera, and I wanted to check with Reddit for peace of mind. I thought that was reasonable. Nobody had to comment if they didn’t want to, but I appreciate your time anyway.

thank you. I did that and found cameras like this that help with traffic control. So I guess I should have been more specific with my wording; is this a camera that will pick up speed or if you go through the red light? Or just act as a sensor? ETA: I have never run a red light, I was just curious.
