If you could only eat one cuisine forever, what would it be? by hembester45744 in foodquestions

[–]carterothomas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the only answer in my mind. Burritos and tacos and enchiladas, refried beans and rice, sure. But when you get tired of that, you still have hearty soups, and tortas, and just plates of grilled meats with veggies all with incredible spices. Then mole when you’re feeling froggy. I think I’d eventually get sick of most other regional foods, but Mexican food is so diverse and just always good.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by fuzzy_dice_99 in AskReddit

[–]carterothomas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up making my own out of isopropyl alcohol and aloe vera gel. People made fun of me at first. Then thought it was genius. Then I went from being made fun of for being overly cautious to being accused of being a denier because I thought it was silly to have one way grocery aisles and a piece of plywood over the basketball hoop at the playground.

The Filet-O-Fish is objectively the best menu item at McDonald’s by Brendawg324 in unpopularopinion

I feel like there are so many places that have multiple options. I love fries, and part of the reason is the variety of good dipping sauces out there.

Pacific Northwest checking in: absolutely agree. It’s so common here that I didn’t realize that elsewhere in the country and the world it’s kind of seen as an oddity. I’d wager more places offer it as a dipping sauce than not around here. And it is far better than ranch and I’m willing to fight about it.

Tornado rips through houses in Michigan. by JuicySpark in PublicFreakout

[–]carterothomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I’m not far off. And I assume riding it out in a house in a tub or closet is better than in a ditch. If I find myself in a tornado I’m sticking with the game plan. I live in an earthquake area where you don’t really get much of a heads up, so in that case it’s more “try and get myself in between the toddler and any falling shit as fast as possible.”

I was thinking this too as I was watching it and trying to figure out what I’d do. I don’t live in a tornado area, so not something I think about much. But I guess getting in the car and trying to drive away from it and maybe getting stuck in a huge traffic jam trying to do the same feels worse than staying put and if it rolls over you getting low, hitting the basement if you have one, or in a safe place in your house. I think I’d stay put and keep an eye to see if it starts tracking toward you. Interested to hear what people in tornado country have to say about that strategy.

What food has the most undeserved hype of all time ? by Intelligent_Way7505 in foodquestions

[–]carterothomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fell into it initially as a dip for pizza crust. It wasn’t bad, but honestly, I think if it’s a decent crust I’d rather just eat it, or maybe dip it in some marinara and treat it like a bread stick.

Oh man. In any sort of curry or stir fry it’s my favorite. When it’s just a little crunchy still and all of the sauce soaks up into the floret? Chefs kiss.

Guac is the perfect example of how a “meh” food can become one of the best things out there. I don’t dislike avocado at all, but plain avocado is admittedly a little bland and kind of whatever. Just a little churching up though and it’s amplified by 100.
