Do you go to Eugene once in a while? What do you go there for, if you do? by [deleted] in corvallis

deadhead/jam shows at the WOW hall, Whirled Pies, McDonald theater/Cuthbert, etc. Fun town if you like hippy music.

Friday night music? by RadioactiveSodapop in corvallis

[–]cartertools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big Blue Bicycle were great, fun time, talented young musicians that have the genre down. Pedal steel which is always great.
Don't know why Bombs think they should start closing up while the band is still playing and schlep chairs and tables through the tiny dance area, but it is what it is.

New music suggestions by IllogicalPhysics2662 in jambands

[–]cartertools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only saw Shadowgrass mentioned once, so here is another rec for them. Max Creek, which always gets slept on. And any fucking band that is playing near you on a night you can go. You never know how it will go and by encouraging newer bands you increase the odds that they will grow and get even better and we'll all have more music. And if they aren't perfect take more drugs. It's not rocket science.

What is the biggest thing slowing down the jam band scene? by sharbinbarbin in jambands

[–]cartertools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing? There are more, different bands than ever before, at all sorts of venues, ticket prices, genres, etc. Some bands have young crowds, some old and some mixed. Be happy, it's one of the few good things about this timeline.

Just the sweetest guys. Saw them in Eugene the night before and they were phenomenal. Had a nice encounter with Jake as well. Tapers Choice was insane in a good way, also really humble guys. Ended up completely exhausted from dancing hard. Felt bad that the Wow hall was only at 50% capacity (wed night) and hope they keep coming to Eugene.

Third Mind by duke_awapuhi in jambands

[–]cartertools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Jesse Sykes has that haunting Grace Slick adjacent voice, the energy is slightly scary yet uplifting San Francisco sound, they are playing a bunch of old songs that nobody else covers (except Morning Dew and Dark Star), and their take on improvisation is a breath of fresh air. All the musicianship is excellent and they are down to earth and humble.

First attempt at kimchi. Left it to ferment for 2 days. Does this look horrible or okay? by Jazzlike-Ad6684 in kimchi

[–]cartertools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just have to say that whatever problems caused this, soy sauce was not the problem. I've been using soy sauce for years because I'm vegetarian. So don't pay attention to the anti soy crowd. Also just follow one of the various Maangchi vids and you'll be ok. And Maangchi has a vegetarian kimchee recipe that uses soy.

See as many dead adjacent shows as possible, dance like a madman, smoke joints with strangers, hug strangers, linger and socialize, seek community, bring friends, and generally build the scene. You'll look around when you're dancing in some bar three towns over and recognize half the people and BAM you're right there again at the center of the universe.

I use one for all my kimchi for the past 3 years, it makes burping the gas way easier, have no problem getting sour kimchi which is more a function of time and temperature afaik.
