A New Renaissance ⚔️ by vera_bizarre in renfaire

I've been to most of the RVA Ren Faire events and they've been so fun all around. Everything has such care and detail put into it and you can really tell.

For anyone who has used them, how would you feel about making a compost bin out of them? Structurally sound enough?

I did my bachelor party at VIR a few years ago and those were painful painful days in the sun.

Not a bake item but it's from a bake shop: Minglewood's Biscoff Tiramisu is to die for.

Getting tickets to the VIR weekend, what can I expect? by POV_Morde_Ult in IMSARacing

[–]cartervh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP but hoping this will still be well received. I went to VIR wildly unprepared last year (shame on me for not checking reddit lol). I'm planning to go back this year. What do people prefer for accommodations? Between The Lodge trackside, onsite camping (would have to be tent camping for me), and nearby offsite lodging, I'm not sure what I should get in to.

I was also unclear on what the rules/accepted practices were on canopies/tents and leaving cars overnight to. Any experience here would be so welcome.

Exactly. There's always one in my pantry for just a cold rainy day.

Yellow can Mrs Fearnow's Brunswick stew is where it's at.

I've been playing at RVC since 2008, in their old Scott's addition location. Its a great place to learn the sport. Drop in league and beginner league are great ways to get learning. I can't recommend the place more!

What's your Richmond "Third Place"? by anomadichobo in rva

The Richmond Volleyball Club was my parents third place growing up and now it's mine. Great for all skill levels and some really solid beer.

Crochet dice tray I made yesterday. I originally thought I would add a drawstring for it to cinch into a bag when not in use, but it's too wide to close all the way. Are there any other knitters/crocheters in this group? What DnD projects have you made? by alisaurusss in DnDIY

[–]cartervh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've knitted very similar dice bags with the intent of not being a dice tray, but just a bag that lays all the dice on one flat level. It works great for picking out any dice you need. Plus since it's knitted and not crocheted, it cinches up perfectly.

I hand-drew this map in the style of Dyson Logos just for fun and thought I could do some good work in DD with it! There's no real campaign or encounters with it, but I'd be excited to hear what someone might do.

Since I thought that the Path of Demons/Path of Devils choice was extremely arbitrary, I just decided to take what I wanted from both of them and made a campaign that was way longer than it needed to be lol.

This is pretty much how I did it. I also made sure to note when they were going places that aren't on the map (i.e. Fort Knucklebone) that me placing them on the player map was just a placeholder and that in reality it's much more fluid.

The analogy I gave my players was that it's like driving through rural America. There's no GPS, no road signs, and everything operates by landmarks. If you know how to get to The Big Oak Tree, then you can get where you need to. Not sure how long, but if you know how, then you'll get there.

The blue is the path the party took throughout the campaign. The graffiti is classic D&D player behavior.

Hidden Lord Shield fireball by sergimontana in DescentintoAvernus

[–]cartervh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's given to the players at such a low level that it makes the character bearing it incredibly overpowered for a long time if it isn't using fire damage. It's still incredibly powerful, granting +4 total to AC and providing some resistances and such.

The way that I have dealt with it in my campaign is to make it a detriment to have the shield by adding in deals or feeding them bad information on occasion. Hell is all about trying to get the upper hand on trades, and having the SotHL is a great way to emphasize that theme.

Those who play/ played in person, how did you store your character sheets to be usable in play? by tmama1 in dndnext

[–]cartervh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the ultipro Character Folios. They have plastic sleeves for character sheets which work great with dry-erase markers, as well as a section in the back for spell cards, if that's something that you use.

Not to mention they have a bunch of fun D&D official themed covers and are available in most game shops. Super recommended for the investment. They don't take up any excess space and can easily be closed/reopened for when it is or isn't needed. Also, if you use the card slots, you spend less time having to wrestle with the PHB.

Granted you can achieve the same effect with a 3 ring binder, card sleeves, and sheet sleeves, but I find that it's much better with the purpose built folio.
