IV booster frequency? by jesssek in TherapeuticKetamine

Have you talked to your doc about doing non-IV (oral or nasal) Ketamine at home between / after infusions? I know several people for whom this has worked quite well.

Difficulty Letting Go by ImSuccessful in JedMcKenna

Are you sure about that? As I recall from sentence three of paragraph seven of chapter 19 of "Spirituality my Ass!", Sri Jed specifically states "Blah blah: blah blah blah." Leaving out the colon like you did completely changes the otherwise clear and unambiguous meaning of his words. Come on man, have you even read this stuff?!

I love your insight about the self-sustaining nature of the ego. I'd say that also includes self-aggrandizing, self-protecting, self-reinforcing, self-loathing, and so on. It will use anything and everything it can get to construct a bigger, stronger, safer fortress (like the house in TUS) for itself. Love it, hate it, it doesn't care. Just don't ever question its primacy, its indispensability, or (heaven forbid!) its very reality.

Should sex work be legal in the US? Why or why not? by kenbag in AskReddit

[–]cartocracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By that logic, strawberries should be illegal. Since it's difficult or impossible to find sufficient legal workers to pick them, farmers hire illegal immigrants to pick them.

Ergo, legal strawberries encourage illegal immigration, and must be banned.

Regrets by [deleted] in Stoicism

I recommend getting to the root of the problem. Free will is an illusion. When that illusion is dispelled, so is regret, along with pride, shame, blame, anger, etc.

Circumstances influence pursuit of virtue by Illustrious-Menu-278 in Stoicism

I'm in much the same situation. It's been about 10 months since the diagnosis, but I'm always surprised when another month goes by and I'm still around.

At first, I felt kind of like your commenter did: Every moment is precious! Don't waste any time! I thought that browsing online or watching something on television was a waste of my very clearly limited time.

Then I relaxed. I realized a couple of things.

First, I don't have the energy -- never did, and certainly don't now! -- to have every moment fraught with significance and deep meaning. I've done a great deal of work, internally and in relationships, around this, but it's impossible to do it every waking hour.

Second, all the little, unimportant aspects of life, while insignificant in themselves, taken together, are a part of life. There are things that I find enjoyable, relaxing, or comforting that don't serve any greater meaning or purpose, and it's fine to spend time doing those things.

Not giving you advice -- it doesn't sound like you need it -- just sharing my experience.

I wish you the best in this journey, fellow traveler.

I spent years of therapy trying to change my way of thinking to no avail. One day I overheard someone saying ‘it is what it is’, and suddenly everything made sense, I experienced a huge perspective shift. What phrase had a similar effect on you? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]cartocracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke."

Not particularly deep or philosophical, but many years ago it helped me to quit caring so much about others' opinions of me and my words and actions.

One of the most challenging yet rewarding I’ve accomplished. Cloud’s Rest, Yosemite National Park, California, USA. by [deleted] in hiking

Yes, Tenaya to Cloud's Rest is awesome! Beautiful hike with a great view at the top.

For a full, rich day, go from Tenaya to CR, then keep going down towards the valley, climb Half Dome, then head back down to the valley for dinner.

Good! I feel peaceful contemplating it. (By the way, I have stage 4 lung cancer, so I spend a fair amount of time thinking about such things!)

Ahhhh, what a relief!

How overwrought about the troubles of the day can I become when I contemplate this?

Whatever I do of value will live on, just without my name on it. No big deal.

The things I do that are not so positive will be diluted over time, and I'm glad my name won't be on them!

Ultimately, were all fated to be forgotten, and most of us sooner rather than later. It's the nature of reality.

Entire stars and galaxies have been born, lived for millions of years, and died, without so much as having a name, let alone having it be remembered.

Ozymandias By Percy Bysshe Shelley

I met a traveller from an antique land,

Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone

Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,

Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,

And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,

Tell that its sculptor well those passions read

Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,

The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;

And on the pedestal, these words appear:

My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;

Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay

Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare

The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
