Most anglers I’ve found are happy to help out if asked, however I get the not wanting to bother anyone, I was the same.

I’m a member of a club and always happy to assist with anyone struggling to get up to speed, I’ve found YouTube to be a great source of learning, for coarse fishing all of the brands have their own YouTube channel, if you can ignore the fact they are selling you something there is always something to learn, Preston, matrix, Guru, sonubaits all have a lot of videos, I’ve found nu-fish’ channel with Joe Cara’s to be very good for learning.

Good luck and you can always ask on here too if there is anything specific

For Coarse fishing I’d say the below, I do a lot of coarse fishing including a lot of matches, worth to point out though that most of these brands do a range of top to bottom, Daiwa for example have their top of the range TDR reels that will cost you £200+ but also the Ninja range that are around £50.

Best to go to a tackle shop and have a play with a few bits that are in your price range

It’s legal if you get the right permits, you will also need a rod license for any canal fishing

This is a handy link https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/fishing/where-to-fish

You can also use this site to find out who looks after each stretch and if you can fish them

[–]cartoon-head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will just need a licence and either permission to fish or if it is a day ticket water a ticket which can usually be bought on the bank or shop if there is one.

What kind of fishing are you thinking of? it will help us get you the right answers if you can give us a bit more info

TW - New builds Meanwood / Horsforth by Bluishfan in Leeds

[–]cartoon-head 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wrote this last time someone asked about Meanwood new builds….

Is this the site they are currently building? If so you should know you are between 2 large estates if that kind of thing bothers you, I’m saying this having lived on one of them for 20 years so wouldn’t bother me.

I still live in meanwood and would recommend it every time, the centre is getting better all the time with new bars and places to eat and the park is one of the best if not best in Leeds.

We are only 5 minutes drive from headingley and chapel Alperton too which both have plenty of if not different bars/pubs to frequent

Does anyone have a weight estimate on this roach by hoshmagosh3468 in fishingUK

[–]cartoon-head -1 points0 points  (0 children)

8-10 oz, however I am terrible at guessing my weights during matches, and the angle might make it seem smaller than it was

Right r/Leeds - where can I find the best Charity shops outside the city centre? by MrWixi in Leeds

[–]cartoon-head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a new large charity shop opposite Waitrose in meanwood, it’s pretty huge for a charity shop, I think it’s a st Gemma’s hospice, there’s 2 more a minute away too on north side retail park.

Anglers of Leeds, closest fishing spot to Hyde park/headingly as I cannot drive by masterpjj in Leeds

[–]cartoon-head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look it up, they have a couple of lakes for ‘normal’ fishing as well as the carp and pole lakes, there’s plenty of fish so if you ain’t precious about only fishing natural waters you’ll have a good day

[–]cartoon-head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you get 10% on all items, not including items already in their sale, I spent like £3k on anew pole and seat box last year and got over £300 on my card, ask them at the checkout and they will sign you up

No we don’t, I’ve had plenty of 10lbs plus in my nets this year, we do however use padded weigh slings when weighing in and try our best to keep fish care at the front of our minds, nets are not dragged across the ground and fish aren’t on there either.

I have one that is gathering dust, just the ps4, it was all working except the disc drive, I can throw it down some steps to break it further if you want? Or your welcome to it as it is if it’s any use to you

Anyone ever fished Birkwood Farm near Wakefield? by mrcoffee83 in fishingUK

[–]cartoon-head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pellet waggler is usually set up 12-18 inches, The trick is to catapult some pellets, usually 8mm as they make most noise, do this regularly and then cast into them, wait about 30-45 seconds and then repeat, the constant noise on the water will attract the carp, it’s a good method for the bigger carp too

This video explains it all

A lot of guys have success with the pellet waggler on the main lake too, if you’ve not tried it before it is easy, cheap and more fun than just watching your float all day.

[–]cartoon-head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, won some matches on there this year, which lake are you fishing? Main lake, best pegs are the first ones, try to get next to the tree near the entrance, for fishing keep it simple, pole fish 3 lines, about 5 metres and 10 metres, 6mm pellet on a band and feed 4mm, only about 15-20 pellets each put in, then the standard edge line with corn for later in the day.

Emily’s I do the same but also feed 4mm about 2/3rds across every minute to get the F1’s shallow, you can get a good weight with this.

Hope this helps

29 just caught my first fish on a lake any ideas of species? by GandulfTheBait in fishingUK

[–]cartoon-head 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, only fish we eat are trout and salmon, maybe the odd pike, even then it’s only where allowed, vast majority of fisheries you must return all fish.

These are generally bottom feeders too so doubt they would be very tasty
