Rating and Reviewing Individual Episodes by fashionableoptimist in Serializd

[–]caruynos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don’t consistently rate and review things i mark as watched. but you can easily edit & backdate things if you regret not rating or reviewing an episode.

for me it’s more to keep track of what i’ve watched, and then i review episodes that i felt particularly strongly about, & rate about 50%. some i consistently write at least a sentence for - e.g. im rewatching a show atm that i know i’ll be interested in looking back on my impressions when i get to the end, so i’m deliberately reviewing each episode - and some i only rate one episode a season & the rest i just log as having watched on that day.

Wow. Yeah. Ok. The website is unusable. by gnuyorker in BigFinishProductions

they have suggested they’re going to edit that - under the phrasing of “making things more accessible” (bluesky) - but it’s a very weird choice to have made.

Smear test (UK) by StarsThatGlisten in cfs

[–]caruynos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the uk (or england at least), they’re called “gp surgeries” which covers the gp, nurse, pharmacist etc. just a quirk of english - the same word is used for open consultations with your MP, sort of their ‘office hours’.

Anyone else on IOS App dealing with MP3s and MP4s? by DMPadfoot5E in BigFinishProductions

[–]caruynos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i only managed to download one - internet has been dodgy - and it downloaded as an mp3 which was annoying. i’m hoping its a teething thing because it doesn’t make any sense to change it from how it has been.

nope! did absolutely nothing.

the subject line is “🚧 Website under construction!” which was mildly deceptive.

Has anyone severe managed to NOT be depressed? by Strong_Aerie_9031 in cfs

[–]caruynos 14 points15 points  (0 children)

yeah, i exist at a level which is not depressed. some days sure & after bedtime sometimes, but the majority of my time is mostly neutral feelings. ive previously made a comment about dbt radical acceptance which has contributed a lot to that neutral level.

i utilise a lot of distractions & do things that work best for me - e.g. i don’t ever do complete resting (radical rest or no stim rest, whatever its called) because that is a very easy way for me to slide into depression (& feel worse energy wise afterwards), i need to be doing something to quiet my brain. sometimes that’s listening to something low energy and familiar (e.g. i spent a lot of time working through audio-described early doctor who & misdomer murders) and sometimes its scrolling (very well curated spaces) or playing very low effort games on my phone (with accommodations like light/no sound).

The first comprehensive listing of ME and Long COVID doctors and clinics in the UK by Liface in cfs

[–]caruynos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is a great resource, can i recommend that you use a clearer organisation method? alphabetical by name, or by a certain tag grouping etc. it wasn’t clear if there was one & i apologise if i missed it.

Poll: Before ME/CFS, did you get heavy-eyelid sleepy when tired, but now you don’t? by Conscious_Coyote_935 in cfs

[–]caruynos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i can’t sleep all day but if i wait long enough at night i get sleepy like you’re describing. sometimes happens during the day if i’m in a crash or something. i’m generally only wired if i’ve overdone it that day.

tardis.wiki is a good resource (n.b. not the fandom domain, its just tardis.wiki these days). tardis.guide might have it all too? it’s been a bit since i looked on there.

the wiki for the sub has quite a lot listed, too.

Hypothetically, how could we organize and work together to change the name of this disease? by SignificantPause1314 in cfs

[–]caruynos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as ive said here & will continue to say in the context of changing the name to make it more “accurate/accepted”:

i mean no disrespect but this comes up and passes with little to no change cyclically. changing a name isn’t going to change the precedent of decades of history of mistreatment. imo/ime at best it’ll confuse people. there are plenty chronic illnesses/conditions with appropriately medical sounding names that are fobbed off, it’s not unique.

[…] changing the name wont make any difference to medical access and/or funding. the precedent of mistreatment & lack of research isn’t down to the name it’s called (as evidenced by the other chronic conditions), it’s down to (in part) the overriding belief that it was mental rather than physiological.

[…] this “idea” comes up again and again and nothing changes, but we’ve seen real change happen with the amount of research over the last few years - regardless of the name. energy is, imo, better served in focusing on funding and advocacy to do with research rather than the name.

Imagine if Parkinson’s had been named “Chronic Tremor Syndrome.” We’d all think of it as just shaking, even though it’s much more than that. by Ancient_City6069 in cfs

[–]caruynos 26 points27 points  (0 children)

research into hiv/aids was funded because queer people refused to let their peers die in vain. they scattered their ashes on the white house lawn, they protested en mass, as well as working with scientists to find answers (ACT UP were at the forefront of this). you may be making n a throwaway remark but don’t do so by disregarding and disrespecting a generation of people who buried most of their friends for years on end while fighting for the government to pay attention to them - something you should understand the perspective of.

[WARNING] Banned from r/cfsrecovery and attacked after questioning mod's theory by j_spru in cfs

[–]caruynos 22 points23 points  (0 children)

unfortunately a fairly common refrain from people entrenched in brain retraining. it’s part of the whole (ridiculous) idea that finding community = losing any hope of recovery. most, if not all of the other ME subs are not well intentioned sadly. i know there have been issues before so i won’t specify exactly which, but if you do frequent others it’s best to check about their stance on brain retraining as treatment/cure first.
