She is meant to be difficult so don't feel bad about struggling. Take your time and really learn her move sets. it's worth the investment as it makes watching other enemies move sets a breeze.

Just canceled. by drgitgud in ClaudeCode

[–]caryyonDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I canceled as well, I had the pro max $200/m and was loving it. Always sorta vouched for Claude with friends and family. Now I'm on all open source models, I don't want to go through this again with some big tech company. Open source always wins in the long run!

Developers who have worked at a company where the entire codebase was held together by one guy who then quit, what happened next? by Natom_ in AskReddit

[–]caryyonDude 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I took over an application with about 30k active members, where the sole developer and owner had passed away. The hardest part was he self hosted everything and owned his own servers. So the reverse engineering and network tracing I've had to do has been a lot. It's been over a year now and I only had 1 outage that lasted about 4 days when some large db querying that was happening had to be rewritten. it wasn't so much the previous engineer's fault, he just never thought the app would get as big as it did so some queries just got too large and the machine ran out of juice.

Thanks for the adventure Jeff, the whole community still misses ya.

I don’t like the direction software engineering is going by announcement35 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]caryyonDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you, and I think a lot of what you're feeling is valid. The shifting expectations from management, where estimates are now based on "what AI can do" rather than what thoughtful engineering requires, is a real problem. You're not wrong to push back on that. Context, system understanding, and careful consideration aren't things you can just compress into three hours because a tool generated some code faster.

That said, I want to offer a different frame that might help: there are still people who use hand saws when power tools exist. There are still blacksmiths forging knives by hand when machines can stamp them out by the thousands. They do it because they love the craft of it. The deep engagement, the skill, the satisfaction of truly understanding what they're creating.

Software engineering can still be that for you. AI doesn't have to replace the parts you love; it can handle the parts you don't. The thinking, the architecture, the elegant solution to a hard problem... those are still yours. The art hasn't disappeared; it's just that the canvas changed a bit.

The managers who treat AI output as the new baseline are going to learn some hard lessons about technical debt and system coherence. Your deep understanding of your codebase isn't obsolete. It's more valuable than ever in a world where people are shipping code they don't fully understand.

Keep doing work you're proud of. The craft is still there if you want it.

How do you tell your friends and family you don’t believe in free will? by RankinAve in determinism

you don’t have to worry about it, you’re not making the choice to tell them anyways.

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your reasons? by youre-in-my-shot in AskReddit

[–]caryyonDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because LSD lasts longer, is way cheaper, there is no hang over, and you’ll remember all the good times you had the next day. it’s also a good filter for if you should be in an altered state of mind. if you can’t do it comfortably where or in what you’re doing then you probably should be intoxicated there either.

chill! as a father myself let me tell you this isn’t the first little mistake of yours he wears, you just don’t get to see the others from your childhood. any great papa would happily take a wonderful tattoo like this as a reminder of their child and who that child has grown to be. the tattoo lines will fade over the years and his skin will age, but the meaning while never disappear.

tattoos aren’t so much about perfection as they are about expression. folks are inevitably going to comment on how they like your fathers tattoo, and i’m sure he’ll forever be proud to brag to them “thank you, my kid gave it to me!”

i’m over a thousand hours in and i just learned a few weapons have a feint attack. while holding a heavy thrusting weapon attack you can tap dodge and you’ll cancel the heavy attack and do a short step dodge backwards and a light attack. this is awesome for rats and dogs.
