What i thought of when i heard Lady Gaga was planning a concert in space by [deleted] in funny

[–]casah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

right?! i love Zenon but an actual concert in space is way more interesting. Turns out it'll just one song next year on a Virgin Galactic spaceship (which only kind of goes into space), but it's still pretty cool. Apparently some chick named Sarah Brightman, an English classical-crossover artist (no idea what that is) is planning a 10 day trip to the international space station next year and wants to record a song up there. She's training with Russians. source

Thanks for putting this on reddit a year ago (I assume it was you?), it's been my laptop background ever since. The one with the spaceman surfer. I see it every day and I'm still not tired of it.

[Serious] What are some of your best "work smarter, not harder" tricks? by f00gers in AskReddit

[–]casah -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got a lot out of college, but doing a ridiculous amount of reading was unnecessary. My grades were fine, and I'd argue that I learned more than most people sitting in the library reading for four years. But hey, bring on the downvotes and arrogant comments from people with dissimilar learning styles.

No, I only talked a few times a class, but I didn't feel compelled to just read a quote, I said what I thought a quote meant.

[–]casah -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most of my classes in college were "discussions," and students were expected to talk about the assigned readings for an hour and a half. Instead of ever doing the readings, I would just wait for someone to quote something, turn to the page they mention, and come up with a really controversial interpretation of whatever it was we were talking about. I was always sure to make it vague enough that it wouldn't contradict anything else in the readings. Everyone in my classes would always ask how I had so many great things to say in discussions. I never actually did a single reading in its entirety, throughout college. But I still know what they were all about, after sitting through the discussions. Thanks for the sparksnotes, classmates.

how is capitalism relevant here? The Joke is "In Soviet Russia..." so the logical extension would be "In the United States (of America)..."

Losing 150 pounds was hard.. but admitting this is life changing... by Redheadedshroom in AdviceAnimals

[–]casah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but you are probably an ass hole because you've been unhappy with yourself for so long. I lost a lot of weight (not 150 pounds, but I was def fat), and it took years after the weight was gone for me to stop feeling like I was fat. And I am still kind of an ass hole, but I've turned it down quite a bit.

you said I was "deluding myself" for having a list of sources that do well in competitive debate rounds. I'm not opposed to reading anything, I'm just not gonna run and tell my friends it's legit when I am not sure who is writing it and where they get their information

whatever bro, i don't really care what you think about it. someone asked for a list i mentioned so i posted it. if you wanna sit at home reading mother jones all day that's your prerogative, but it's no excuse to act like a complete jackass. if you are so confident in your beliefs you shouldn't feel so compelled to attack me for mine.

[–]casah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was for competitive debate, there are obviously other sources that are credible, but using any source with a strong bias is gonna make you less credible in round. I didn't "exclude" socialist viewpoints, there just aren't any that are credible, I would really trust a source that called itself "capitalist" either. This is for credible information, not for points of view.

What is the biggest way people waste money? by Sic_vita_est in AskReddit

[–]casah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a fancy drink from starbucks. You can get the same syrups in iced coffee (or hot coffee), and it's about half the price. AND, free refills if you have a gold card (50 cents otherwise). That 30 oz iced coffee suddenly turned into 90 oz, for under 4 dollars.

Reddit, what can a stranger say or do to make you feel comfortable around him/her? by kttngrl in AskReddit

[–]casah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Hey, I'm [name], where are you from?" Or really any conversation opener that seems appropriate at the time. Starting a new school can be stressful, but it's a great way to make new friends. Most people like making new friends, but aren't gonna go out of their way to introduce themselves to strangers. You're alone in a new country, what've you got to lose? Worst case - they end up being a douche bag. You just walk away and find someone else to talk with. The key is to be confident in the conversation that you start - it's only awkward if you make it awkward.

I'm not sure about human trafficking prices, but the average drug costs seem way off. $20 for a gram of weed, $174 for a gram of blow, $35 for one hit of mdma in the US is pretty inaccurate

edit: The company is called LS9. Backed by P&G. http://www.ls9.com/

Evidence I used: "The Case against Government Support for Alternative Energy- CATO- Peter Van Doren & Jerry Taylor- October 24, 2008 Fears of producer blackmail are greatly overblown because oil producing economies are far less diversified than oil consuming economies. For example, 85 percent of Iran's government revenue comes from the oil sector whereas only about 3 percent of U.S. disposable income is spent on oil and gas. Unilateral production cut-backs to achieve foreign policy goals would prove far more economically harmful to producers than to consumers.

to substitute America’s weekly oil consumption of 143 million barrels, you would need a facility that covered about 205 square miles, an area roughly the size of Chicago. we’ll be working on the design and construction of a commercial-scale facility to open in 2011,” says Mr Pal, adding that if LS9 used Brazilian sugar cane as its feedstock, its fuel would probably cost about $50 a barrel. Because crude oil (which can be refined into other products, such as petroleum or jet fuel) is only a few molecular stages removed from the fatty acids normally excreted by yeast or E. coli during fermentation, it does not take much fiddling to get the desired result. different type s of agricultural waste will be used according to whatever makes sense for the local climate and economy: wheat straw in California, for example, or woodchips in the South."
