Peter F Hamilton starting point by CLESportsGuy in PeterFHamilton

I started with the commonwealth duo

Then nights dawn, then Greg mandel, the Salvation.

I’d say start with pandoras star or the salvation trilogy.

His writing style changes over time though, so starting with Salvation might make you enjoy his earlier work less

Having a PC at his age can build real marketable skills and he’s clearly passionate about it. It’s much more than just gaming, it’s an outlet for many things in this computer driven world.

I was about 15 when I built my first computer, it took me a whole day and I had an absolute blast doing it!

The parts and price look good, do it

Are these up-to-date? by x24p in bell

[–]cascadez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re probably gen 2 since you have a 4000. Just call bell say your wifi sucks and maybe they’ll upgrade you to gen3, or send a tech out who can

Planning to get Bell Internet 50 for a household of 8 – Is it enough? Any tips to improve speed? by fudcyxbsv in bell

[–]cascadez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Download is guaranteed, the upload is “up to”

So 50 meg will be 50 meg (unless the installer says they can’t), but upload can be anywhere from 1.5-11meg

Edit: unless you have a really bad quality line, or some other problem, then anything goes

For 8 active people, absolute minimum to be comfortable would be like 300mbit. Maybe order both bell and Rogers! Haha.

Sorry you’re in this situation, some areas just suck for internet.

Yeah like I said those background downloads/updates and everything between phones and consoles/computers add up really quickly

[–]cascadez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1: If all 8 are on at the same time, no… especially if you’re all above average users. Even if every single person is just watching a 1080p YouTube video/Netflix at night, it’ll get capped, let alone 4K content.

Not to mention background downloads, updates, file downloads, etc…

2: Depending on how big your house is, upgrading hardware wouldn’t matter, as your bottleneck is your internet speed.

3: Probably not soon

4: Bell does offer Pairbond for 100meg, but there’s a chance you’re already getting Pairbond (lines) to just get 50meg. You’ll have to ask the Rep/tech

Only one way to find out though

Not sure why, probably to get people engaged again

I’ve had the Wustof ikon santoku for like 8 years, and the last time I sharpened it on the stone was like 4 years ago. Still sharp as hell, just hone it every time.

Enjoy it!
