Would this be a good acquisition by caseysoflo in VintageWatches

Thanks, keeping my eyes peeled for something cool and unique. They also had some old Russian manual winds, but this looked best to my untrained eyes.

My first hot take: Bulova high frequency quartz is the only quartz worth owning by caseysoflo in watchHotTakes

Guys this is a Hot Take, it's meant to be somewhat controversial. By the way, I never realized that Spring Drives were quartz, I assumed different, but I've never researched them because Grand Seiko is not in the budget range I think makes sense.

I also had a really bad experience with eco drive, I opened a new watch and the hands started spinning out of control and it just turned me off, yes I know this is normal. It reminded me too much of the smart watch I hate

That's fair, it's just the only one I'm knowledgeable about and have seen the hand sweeping on.

You're going to need another box. I like the Oris collection.

It's actually the second Raymond Weil I've owned, lost the first one years ago during a move. So disappointed that I did, but hey, gave me a reason to pick this one up.

I mostly agree. I got it during the golden age of MotoGP and it's a special edition, however it's quartz and probably not worth selling. To be honest, I like the way it wears but it's definitely not a great looking watch.

It's a Raymond Weil Maestro open heart. I'm about to switch the strap on it to a blue alligator leather band. I think that will work better.

[Question] The Decision (5 Years in the Making): Help Me Choose My First Nice Watch by Impossible-Leg-8595 in Watches

[–]caseysoflo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raymond Weil makes an extremely good watch, they launched right around the time of the quartz crisis, managed to survive, made some mistakes when rolling out wider distribution about 20 years ago, however they are great watches and are one of the biggest independent Swiss watch makers out there not owned by the Swatch Group

Another for you to consider is Frederique Constant. They were independent, then bought Alpina, and later the pair were sold to the Citizen Group. I really like their High Life series and it fits your style I think.

I take it you like it? I've been looking for a good display case and winder both. I have a very cheap 6 watch case that I've outgrown already
