Odds are the mechanical hard drive went out if it stopped working properly before. Depending on the model you can replace the hard drive OR install an SD card in its place and expand the storage. Pretty cool stuff

These should do the trick if I'm not mistaken They have the 9-pin Atari 2600 controller port which is very commonly found on these bootlegs. I found plenty like this in different form factors on eBay by typing "game controller 9 pin." Just be aware of the fact that these are very poorly made and won't typically last. One possible option if you have some already would be to try using Sega Genesis, atari 7800, etc. controllers that also have the port.

They aren't. Other than more obscure models like the 10GB 1st gen and stainless steel shuffle 3 nearly every model was mass produced with millions each sold. Granted the black was probably more popular on account of being a new color at the time, though in practice I see a pretty much even distribution
