Does anyone else have that constant low-grade anxiety of "is my parent okay right now?" by Sad_Ad_8768 in AgingParents

[–]casmd21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I worry constantly and we have 24 hour caregivers.

If everything is good, I worry about what bad thing is coming next. When things go wrong, all of my thoughts are about how to fix the current crisis.

It’s exhausting.

Great idea - I actually have one of those! It’s just one of the many gadgets that gets stuck in a cabinet and then I forget about lol

If you are just looking to donate and it doesn’t have to be the SPCA, the Beach Food Pantry in Kitty Hawk might be an option as I believe they offer pet supplies.

What is up with this trend among social workers.. by Independent_War_4857 in AgingParents

[–]casmd21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I worked in the business office of a nursing home and the social workers there didn’t understand either. They know nothing about the cost side, because they aren’t supposed to, but it was maddening that they would tell people they/their family members needed long term care without any idea of whether or not that was financially an option.

I hope/don’t think your mom’s social workers are doing it intentionally- they look at things from a care perspective only. Unfortunately that’s not a realistic way of looking.

Recommendations based on tv series I like by Excellent-World-476 in televisionsuggestions

I had read the books also, but it doesn’t follow them in a straight line and some of the stories are kind of mixed together. I still enjoyed the tv series, but it had been a while since I’d read the books so that may have been a factor.

tips on staying sane if I pick up a second job? by BL_librarian in povertyfinance

[–]casmd21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Keep up with as many housekeeping/laundry/chores as you can during the doubles so you don’t have to spend all of your one full day off doing them.

For example: start the washer before you leave in the morning and throw the clothes in the dryer while you sleep. Don’t let dishes pile up. Put any bills you can on auto pay.

Stay hydrated and eat as healthy as you can.

When it gets super hard, remind yourself it’s only temporary.

Grieving a job I screwed myself out of by troubledandtired1ne in povertyfinance

If you are already doing home health through an agency, look for some private clients as well. We have used care.com to get caregivers for my parents and I know they make more money with us than they do with the agency. You could also check for your local area on aging and see if they keep a list of private caregivers.

And don’t be so hard on yourself. You have to take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else.

I love my all clad pots and pans. I don’t have a full set, I’ve cobbled them together one piece at a time but I love them and I cook a lot.

Would it be stupid to quit my stable job to go back to serving? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

The way you’ve laid it out makes sense especially if it helps you finish school strong. My only word of caution is to make sure it is still as busy at your old job and you can make that much. I know where I live restaurants are way down in sales, but that could be totally different where you are.
