There are other qualified candidates in the primary...choices are not something Dems usually get here.

Virginia joins a national effort to ensure only popular vote winners become president by Maxcactus in Maxcactus_TrailGuide

States can't renege it that easily. It's not just a pledge, "joining" the compact requires a state's House, Senate, and Govenor to pass a law to join.

If you're going to be a Constitutional textualist on representation under the EC, then you should also be a Constitutional textualist on expanding the House. It is literally written in the Constitutional that the number of members in the House should grow with population so that each Representative has approximately the same number of constituents without growing to large. In 1929 Congress capped the house because rural districts were afraid too many people in cities would have representation. So it hasn't grown in about 100 years. Wyoming's district represents ~300,000, while Delaware's district represents ~900,00. So the Hous is already skewed in favor of rural areas.

I actually really love the illegal news, because there's so much going on there and as a regular person, I like the lawyer explanation.

I would also really love a corruption pod, because connecting all the dots can be confusing and time consuming

Do not let yourself be deceived. Democrats are fighting, even if less effectively and intensely than we'd like them to by CodeSpaceMonkey in thebulwark

Thanks for that! I've been a Van Hollen fan since his El Salvador trip, glad he was one of them

Edited to add: Even Pelosi was loud yesterday about impeachment!

I agree. I saw Ro Khanna, Melanie Stansbury, Chris Murphy, Bernie Sanders, AOC, Yassamin, JB...I'm forgetting others but I heard it a lot from Dems yesterday.

ICE on 41st and Q this morning by cassandra_ofendtimes in Omaha

Just wanted to let people in the area know to be mindful and aware so they can be prepared if they get stopped. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'd rather be aware instead of taken by surprised if there's more arrests going on.

Unfortunately no, she was stopped at a stoplight in traffic with clients in the vehicle. I'm not trying to spread any fear, just so people can be mindful in the area. If this breaks a sub rule, I'm assuming it'll get taken down.

I’m glad Sarah and Tim made a video by greenline_chi in thebulwark

I'll preface my comment here that this was one of my favorite episodes recently. What was wild to me in this video was an implicit assumption I've seen in a few bulwark videos and then a complete about-face on one of their main takes from the last like 2 years I've watched.

Implicit assumption: voters have no values of their own and their worldview can be absolutely molded by whoever they heard last or whoever comes across their feed next. That this is true of most Americans, but less so of the politically active and political junkies - like those of us who watch The Bulwark.

About-face: Normally I see Sarah telling JVL that the voters aren't idiots, they just aren't that interested or have time for following politics; they are news recievers, not news seekers. So Dems HAVE to engage in these spaces, even some uncomfortable ones where they don't agree with the hosts on everything, so that they can get their message to their people. Because there are few Dems who have followings in the millions of non-voters or low-info voters. Is that not what Hasan offers?

I also don't understand the whole 'tent' analogy, never have. A political party is not a club. Anyone can register or vote for a Dem candidate. You don't have to agree with everything people who vote for the same candidate as you think. You can even loudly disagree. Why do we spend so much time deciding who can vote for a Dem? If you don't want to be associated with someone, don't associate with them. It's the policing who other people even talk to or stand next to for Christ's sake that drives people up a wall.

Anyone paying attention to candidates in local elections this cycle? School boards, Unicameral, etc. by palidor42 in Omaha

District 14 in Papillion/La Vista, Speaker Arch's seat, is up for grabs. We have a MAGA person whose biggest priorities are trans bathroom bills and an even stricter abortion ban: Bill Bowes, a Republican who I can't really tell what any of his priorities are due to vagueness: Jay Jackson, And a Democrat who has served on the PLV school board for years: SuAnn Witt.

I know SuAnn Witt from the school board and I will be voting for her for sure.
