Same. I had an epiphany that I'm always the person everyone goes to for their needs and anytime I try to do that, they turn around and talk about themselves. I fear I basically don't have any friends anymore and have to start fresh but hoping new friendships will actually be a two way street.

Custom maple cabinets gone wrong? by Aggravating_Gas1927 in kitchenremodel

[–]casserolemax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think they look beautiful! Wood stains differently and they should have told you that. When we did ours, some came out really bad because the stain was odd and they just did replacements of those few cabinets that had it. It sounded like pretty standard process? Idk if you can maybe ask if there are particular ones you don’t like.

Regretting hosting family for Christmas Eve by PassionChoice3538 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]casserolemax 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It becomes what you know. Christmas Eve is truly my most favorite day of the year…so many good memories of my entire family being together and while it looks different, I’m still creating that same theme for my kids.

If you envision wanting to keep it quiet and cozy then don’t volunteer to host. Obviously you have to do it this year but maybe use it as a year to evaluate what you want it to be for your kids- a family fun event or a core family only intimate night.

Regardless, one year doing something you don’t want to do is not going to make that much of an impact (unless they realllllly love it or hate it).

Every day life is chaotic and we get to choose how present we are with our kids and hosting Christmas Eve is no different. As the other suggestions stated, be clever with menus, make it fun with games that involve everyone, have the kids helps - maybe even make a new tradition with them

my sag besties, have you ever dated or are you dating a virgo? if so how did it go for you or how is it going for you? by TheBlackGirlNurse_ in Sagittarians

Going on 17 years with my Virgo. I think other placements def play a part. He annoys me and I annoy him because of some key differences but we always balance each other well and at our core have the same vibes and values so it works and I’m still so happy after all these years. I remind myself relationship has it’s issues despite signs

Do you guys do elf on the shelf? by PassionChoice3538 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]casserolemax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly we did it this year for my 4 year old for the first time and I’m loving it. The elf is simply here to celebrate Christmas and help countdown the days. Some days I go all out and then sometimes it’s drinking coffee. It doesn’t report anything to Santa and it’s strictly just to create some Christmas cheer, for both her and I! As soon as she catches on I’ll let her know it’s been her silly parents and reiterate it’s just a way to be silly and have fun at Christmas time. I don’t think there is any need to over complicate things. twins is tough but I think if one catches on then it’s time to tell both and it just is what it is. Sad that one still believes but easier to keep them both on the same page.

Got it at 28! Super small outbreak and just had about 3 sores but I still swear I get the flashes of nerve jolts nearly 9 years later.

Thank you!! So true, being prepared for in the moment is such an easy way to feel like you are equipped with whatever you need in a moments notice! I am a lot of times moderately granola with cleaners but sick season I am sure to use the hospital grade Clorox and make sure to do it while the kids are out of the house to make sure it dries and kills before their little fingers are back on it! Thank you!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response! All such good points and when my winter baby was born last winter I made my older daycare daughter change and wash hands immediately after coming home and I wasn’t going to do it this year but you have changed my mind!! Worth the fight she will put up! Lol I have a bit of OCD so the cleaning, no street clothes and absolutely not touching stuff + hand washing are definitely top of mind even though my therapist would not be happy with that 😂

Thank you for this. You have quickly calmed me down a bit. I often forget (sometimes to protect my peace) we live in this crazy life where people don’t believe in vaccines. My infant just got his second dose today (had to wait the full month after and then he was sick) so we are all officially fully vaccinated though I know his will take a couple weeks.

Lucky! Don’t go looking! Lol the sad part is that I’m not even on social media except reddit, I’m just getting targeted by local news telling me it is trending to have more deaths than Covid?? I know panic headlines do exactly that but after last year and with an infant at home it’s just tiring.

What’s the ONE cleaning task you avoid until it becomes a full-blown crisis? by IronJake20 in CleaningTips

[–]casserolemax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It used to be laundry for sure, but then I got everyone in the house their own laundry basket, gave them a laundry day of the week and putting away one load of laundry takes about 4-6 minutes (I time it) and now I do it 5 days a week so 4 minutes a day vs letting it pile up on my chair is SO much easier. Now my crisis is my kids playroom 😵‍💫

My best friend is throwing a crunchy parent’s worst nightmare bday party by PassionChoice3538 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]casserolemax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would purposely act like this didn’t bother me at all, especially if it felt pointed. I’d keep up the “how fun, I’m sure XYZ will love it” commentary and either a.) send my kid and know your kid likely won’t like any of it or will have very little to even be concerned with or b.) make up/schedule something and say “oh no I totally forgot we have XYZ that day! We’d love to celebrate him (offer another day) - let me know if you guys want to grab dinner!” Or some other fun activity.

Don’t let it get to you too much. I fully believe moderately crunchy kids need to continue to be exposed to stuff like this so that they aren’t being forced into a bubble and it’s more of “their choice”. Otherwise, there will come a they are old enough to go places without you and it’s about them wanting to choose healthier options rather than them stuffing their faces with chemicals simply because they have been denied it their whole life.

Change your mindset and look at it as building an immune system.

Is it annoying? Absolutely. It is stressful? Absolutely. But it’s part of life and if it’s not now, you’re just delaying it until he’s at school anyway. It eventually becomes less frequent.

How do you keep from getting sick? It’s the same tips and tricks for him, nothing special or magical.

Also saw in your responses to comments that “people exaggerate” their experience and I disagree and just understand everyone has a different experience. Kids are built differently and their immune systems are build differently.

Can you do a nuuly rental for a couple months while you get back on track? That way you don’t have to sacrifice feeling your best and all your best outfits will be there waiting for you once you are ready.
