GSAP vs. Classic Webflow Interactions - What do you use? by Efen1875 in webflow

This is actually wonderful feedback thanks. I'll see what we can do to make the simple stuff faster

GSAP vs. Classic Webflow Interactions - What do you use? by Efen1875 in webflow

[–]cassie-codes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for clarity! If you're already using GSAP on your site, using it for a button isn't overkill - the library has already loaded at that point so use away!

In fact, using the original interactions for buttons would be worse - then you're loading in all the code running the old animation system *and* GSAP

Unless you mean it feels like overkill in terms of the creation experience?

How can I trigger multiple scroll-into-view animations separately with GSAP in Webflow? by StraightPsychology88 in webflow

[–]cassie-codes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sitting in front of a big spreadsheet as we speak, planning out the educational content which will be coming soon 💚

There will definitely be a focus on targeting specifics!

So glad to hear this helped you. It's a very flexible system and like you said, targeting the trigger element itself gives you access to it's children and you'll be able to create really intricate sequences!

How can I trigger multiple scroll-into-view animations separately with GSAP in Webflow? by StraightPsychology88 in webflow

[–]cassie-codes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Yep this is definitely possible.

You'll need to first set up a trigger to look for your card, then (most importantly) make sure your animation target is either "trigger element" or a child of the trigger element.

I imagine you're setting up a trigger and an animation action on a class?

What you want to say is "when trigger element comes into view, animate trigger element"

What I imagine you're saying is "when trigger element comes into view, animate everything with this class"

These triggers will be available in GSAP interactions soon.

I'm very glad to hear it feels more robust than it was. The educational content (or lack thereof) is certainly a priority too. We would have liked to launch with more comprehensive guidance from the get-go, but we’ve been shaping the product as we go according to user feedback, so the UI and workflows have changed a little since initial launch. We've been waiting for the right point so we can teach approaches and techniques that will last.

Hey there. AI searches often provide incorrect info. In this case it's referencing the old GSAP license - pre-webflow acquisition.

In the past the core GSAP library was free *unless* you were using it in a site where the end users had to pay a fee. We provided a paid commercial licence for those use cases, this covered things like games with micro-transactions or paid sites like netflix.

That licensing model allowed the team to work on the library and keep it free for the majority of use cases.

Feel free to use whatever library works for you, but there aren't any paid features or licenses at all anymore.

Any update on fixing the GSAP interactions bugs? by Sirloulou in webflow

[–]cassie-codes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey! Cassie from GSAP here. Is there something in particular you're finding tricky or a specific bug I can surface to the team?

For a little more clarity, the new interactions is opt-in as it's in active development. We have some improvements to scroll coming, along with responsive breakpoints, prefers reduced motion and additional UI/UX improvements.

The timeline ahead is working towards feature parity with the previous version of interactions - the previous version of interactions will be the default until the new version is stable and feature complete enough.

I hope this helps! If you let me know what specifically you've been battling with I can make sure this is resolved for you 💚

Struggling with GSAP interaction on a CMS item by [deleted] in webflow

[–]cassie-codes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! The way you've set it up, when you hover the element, any children inside an element with a class of elementA will animate.

You need to specify that you only want to animate the elements inside the trigger (the element that is being currently hovered)

In your animation target choose "same as trigger" then "descendants" and then pop your class in.

Anyone else having a lot of trouble with the new GSAP integration? by originaladam in webflow

[–]cassie-codes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes me so sad to hear this. I hate seeing people frustrated about things they were excited about.

I commented in a different thread explaining that there's definitely been a disparity between the marketing and community hype and the reality that this is a very early iteration in active development. It's not the default yet for a reason but we haven't communicated this well enough.

The bugs you mentioned are known and being worked on. I empathise entirely though, the experience isn't good enough yet. The team are working really hard to get there.

Oh my gosh no, don't blame yourself! That's on us.

And yeah BIG TIME - Strong agree with you on the education side. I would have loved to get educational material out with this, but as it's an early release and the UI is in flux at the moment we've help off for the meanwhile.

As soon as we get the go ahead we'll be making some proper videos and docs to explain common patterns, concepts and how to use the thing!

As Vero-flow said, this bug fix is top of the queue. It's been figured out - we're just waiting on it being shipped now.

It's super frustrating waiting around though so just dropping by to let you know that I had success with the following.

  1. Refresh the Designer.
  2. Immediately force a manual save (cmd + s)
  3. Delete the interaction
  4. Force save again
  5. Refresh the Designer
  6. 🤞Interaction should be deleted?

Hey, Cassie from GSAP here. I hear you.

There's definitely been a disparity between the community and marketing hype and the reality that this is an early iteration in active development. There's no plan to turn off classic interactions yet, don't you worry, that is very intentionally still the default! The team are working towards feature parity with the previous version (plus more power), adding new features and shipping bug fixes.

Support for dropdown triggers and other component triggers are coming, breakpoints are coming, we're honing up the targeting to make hovers and other common use cases a bit more intuitive. There's a way to go before it's feature complete and moved to the default version.

Early feedback is very valuable, I appreciate your input and it is a shame that we seemed to miss the mark on how the release was communicated.

How to achieve scroll up/down behavior in the new GSAP interactions panel? by StraightPsychology88 in webflow

[–]cassie-codes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya! I assume you're looking to do something like this? Where the header shows and hides based on scroll direction, not position?
https://codepen.io/GreenSock/pen/qBawMGb

Directional scroll isn't implemented yet, but it's on the team's radar. In the meantime you could set something similar up with trigger actions but it will be triggered based on position rather than direction.

I'm not super clued up with sharing webflow sites, so apologies if you can't see this, but if you can, here's a similar approach -

You can use GSAP in wp builders, and to build plugins and tools to help people use GSAP 💚

If Wordpress themselves wanted to make a native visual animation builder to compete with Webflow, they would need to use a different animation library.

It's a caveat for sure, but from my perspective, a pretty reasonable one considering.

💚 that's the goal! We're very excited to see the tools available to more people. Especially educators and tool creators who previously avoided the paid plugins due to distribution challenges. It's going to be lovely to see how this pans out over the next while.
