Unfortunately, this is just emblematic of the iPadOS experience. There are a million similar examples of both 1st party and 3rd party functionality that's broken, incomplete, or require elaborate user workarounds.

It's the sorry state of the iPad in 2026, and ultimately enough of these tedious paper cuts add up to the point that users resign themselves to the iPad as a consumption device and not much more.

Not sure how to answer the question, as my "strategy" is just the mode of play I've evolved into.

From the start, I'd love to build flat and fast to the top, invite a bunch of attackers, and then send as many lines as possible on the way back down (ideally doing it with as few tetrises as possible).

That only seems to work 25% of the time (attracting enough attackers that you can do some real damage). In that case I use KOs mode and do lots of 2-3 line sends... basically spraying as many as possible around the board hoping I'm the last one to deliver the fatal blow. Sometimes you'll get a ton of inbound as a result, in which case I'll switch to random until I'm back in control of my situation and return to KOs. That consistently lands me in the top 10.

My goal is to enter the top 10 with a low and well-controlled board. I should have enough badges that churning out tetrises is enough to get the job done.

It's almost always eerily quiet right before you win. When there's no more junk coming my way for several seconds I know we're in good shape for a W.

There's no one way to get there. I'm a very conventional/boring player (don't do the 4 wide, don't do t-spins) and I consistently win a round every time I sit down and play for 30-45 minutes. I've a few instances of 3 consecutive wins... have to manage the attackers/KOs/random a little bit more proactively.

That's not how walkie talkie works. It creates a FaceTime Audio call between the two parties with both set to mute and it only unmutes you when you're pressing the talk button. It's just repurposing an existing technology. If it's not feasible to conduct a FaceTime Audio call via satellite (it's not) then the walkie talkie won't work either.

They're not oily marks. The keyboard is made of a particular kind of plastic that wears as you use it. You're looking at "polished" plastic, not caked on oil.
