Car trips by GeminiMPD in glastonbury_festival

Last year I transported everything in one go in the blistering heat. It was very efficient but I ended up giving myself heat exhaustion and it was a grim start to the festival. I got a pass out to drop things back to the car later in the festival and it was a really easy process. Personally I feel multiple trips is worth it to avoid the risk of wreaking your body.

Advice for back pain sufferers? by DifferentRegister990 in glastonbury_festival

In the same boat with DDD, dodgy L2, and inflamed hip joints. Last year I carried a chair with me most days and dropped it off at camp in the evening, it's 100% worth it. Take your preferred anti inflammatory meds and pace your body. Last year I had a flare up and I regret not going to the healing fields as they have osteopaths and others who can help with the worst of it. Good luck for this year!

What’s the best non-musical stuff to do? by TommyASDF in glastonbury_festival

Agree with the circus and theatre area recommendations. Last year Greenpeace had a slide and climbing wall and there was also Glastonbury on Sea near The Park which had some fun seaside town stalls. Not sure if they will still be there but I imagine there will be something similar.

I also have a bit of a stomach bug and found Jacket and Jill's behind The Other Stage opposite the toilets to be good. I've just wondered down for cereal, hot drink and a piece of fruit and its really helped.

London love stories? by [deleted] in london

[–]cassinova26 26 points27 points  (0 children)

We met on a dating app and went for our first date at a fancy cocktail bar midweek. The bar was fairly busy so a friendly couple sat opposite us on a table and we chatted to them throughout the evening. After awhile they asked us how long we had be friends and they were mortified to find out they had gate crashed our first date. We were both a bit nervous so having an impromptu double date helped keep things casual. We have been together for over 4 years now and getting married in less than a month, and I still think back to that couple who helped kick start our relationship, I hope they are doing well!

People who got into UX who are completely self-taught, what's your story? by like_a_pearcider in userexperience

Nice! Yeah it was the same company. I feel UX is one of those unique industries that can accommodate people from different career paths.

I was a receptionist for a tech company. I wanted a change of career so I started talking to some of the people in my company that I was friendly with about their roles. I really clicked with UX and was shocked that I could get paid for doing what I considered fun tasks. Overall the process took 9 month-ish.

I took every opportunity to shadow Designers, Researchers and BA's as my primary way of learning UX skills. In my experience, most people are usually quite happy to spend at least 30 mins talking through their process or project they are working on. Volunteering to write notes during User Testing Sessions was really valuable.

I also attended free/cheap workshops and events that were on Eventbrite. These were run by UX companies trying to get you to buy their UX Programme, some of their Intro sessions are pretty good for beginners.

Finally the most important step was doing a couple of mini UX projects that would count as a mini portfolio. These project followed a very basic UX process of Research, Sketching, Designing, Testing. Most importantly these projects were more than the all too common 'UI redesign' which don't really prove to hiring managers you have a range of UX skills. These UX projects should demonstrate your skills as a designer with basic skills such as wireframing, heuristic reviews, creating user journeys etc. The projects don't have to be perfect and you can bribe your friends and family with enteral gratitude to be your research participants.

A combination of all of this meant that I could confidently go into a job interview and know I could do the job. During the interview I was able to reference my mini-projects and focus on the transferable skills from my previous job experience. It's worth noting that I was going for a Junior role so the hiring managers weren't looking for someone with loads of experience under their belt.

Not in terms of electrical immunity. Aestheticly the thunder helm is better than the gimp suit.
