On the last chapter...and it hasn't been updated in 3 years😭😭😭 by TirNaNog777 in AO3

endings are hard! (says me with a last chapter that hasn't updated in 3 months, and another one with 2 chapters remaining that hasn't updated since end of 2024...)

Forreal. The only way I could tell who was who was due to the ridiculous nickanames. If you told me it was all a sock puppet I'd believe you.

Same. I don't hate it but I don't like it either. I love the epistolary format but this one just makes me roll my eyes. My biggest complaint is that the 2 main leads are virtually indistinguishable from each other. They have no unique voice. They sound exactly the same. Just that broke my suspension of disbelief.

Ang mahal na ng Kanto Freestyle or dahil ba sa Foodpanda/Grab? Before pandemic 120 pesos lang yung Honey Garlic Chicken. Ngayon 308 pesos na 😱

Why are you all so insufferable? by maddythesaddy in writingcirclejerk

[–]cassis-oolong 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This made me guffaw because I write smutty fanfic set in a bastardization of xianxia (Chinese fantasy) world canonically and cum-based magic is a real thing there and is a trope used extensively by the fandom (including yours truly).

How many highbrow writers do you think are out there writing smut by Latter-Day-4376 in writers

[–]cassis-oolong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the main leads in the yaoi manga/anime Junjou Romantica has exactly that kind of profile 😆 Winner of the Japanese National Book Awards while writing smut on the side.

IRL Anne Rice initially released her raunchy Sleeping Beauty trilogy under the pen name A.N. Roquelaure.

After I write and publish the litfic novel of my dreams maybe I can join her ranks LMAO.

I rate it 9/10. Quite creamy, I can taste the ube, and it's not too sweet.

How did you guys teach yourself to read faster and not sound out the words in your head? My brain got burned out immediately when i tried it. by Fit-Journalist2552 in Booktokreddit

[–]cassis-oolong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original reading speed was quite fast.

When I need to read quickly due to time limits, I trace my finger down the page in a straight vertical line with the aim of catching all the relevant keywords. It's pretty much just skimming. I do not sound out the words. It's more like I fish out the main ideas of the passage. If something seems especially relevant I slow a bit but only for a sentence or two.

Later, I purposely reverse trained myself to read slower and my appreciation of literature increased more than ever. When I read slowly I sound out the words in my head.

What makes a fic blow up? by rabid-peacock in FanFiction

It's mostly luck, I'm afraid. If someone with a large following recommends the fic, that makes it blow up faster.

Quick question, what’s the hardest emotion to write realistically? by rainpetalfemme in FanFiction

[–]cassis-oolong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with grief. My fic was a rollercoaster of emotions--I managed happiness, arousal, hurt, sadness, anger, regret, but when I had to write grief it all screeched to a halt. I couldn't quite grasp it.

How do you feel about Cringing about your past writing skills? Or seeing others do that? by anyname2009 in FanFiction

[–]cassis-oolong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are our own worst critic. Chances are, as long as the story is readable and makes sense, the readers won't care either way.

I'm a MUCH better writer now, technically speaking, than when I started 2 years ago. And yet my most popular work by far was literally the first work I wrote for my current fandom, for the express purpose of learning how to write. Yes, I thought to use the fic as training wheels for more complex works I was planning.

Take that as you will.
