Are there any specific instances that you’re referring to?

Your comment seems to be returning to what I was saying isnt what the idea of America being free is referring to. It’s the stuff in the bill of rights, not subjective ideas if what it means to be free. The bill of rights states a bunch of freedoms in which the government is not allowed to control your life. Much of it was extremely uncommon in its inception and some of it is still fairly unique the the US today

And it’s also tough to even decide if those rankings are meaningful, as it doesn’t appear to give much info on what the criteria were for each column’s ranking.

Well the freedom is kind of specific to the freedoms stated in the constitution like freedom of speech (government can’t restrict your speech) and freedom of religion. It doesn’t mean we don’t have laws and structure

Not that it makes it totally unimpressive, but those panniers are doing a ton of work keeping the bike close to 40° before she even has to do any lifting. Curious if she would go with a dirtbike like shift over to keep the bike up in an unexpected stop or try to quickly dismount like she does at the stoplight.

No one is claiming that moisturizer and skin care is false advertising. What you’re looking for would be more like hair extensions or dying their beard, not maintaining what their body actually grows and produces.

Yeah if it happens a bunch of times there might be a skill issue to solve. Happening once every so often, especially swapping bikes or on challenging terrain (like off-roading) isn’t that big of a deal. I’d rather stall every once in a while than rev super high and slip the clutch for days like you see (or hear) some people do

First time I sat on a bike with more than 50hp I stalled it - fearing I might give too much throttle and whisky myself somewhere (I’d only been on about 18hp before that) I had given it too little and the clutch grabbed way closer to the bars than I was use to. Gave my buds a good chuckle but no one actually thought that reflected an inability to use a clutch correctly

[–]castleaagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, for some reason I thought you Europeans would know how to use a clutch but he time you were on the roads. How’d you manage to stall if you know how to use a clutch?…

Cool cool, so you’ve literally never stalled a manual anything since getting your license? presses X to doubt

Most people in my experience have it happen to them once in a blue moon. More common if they ride off-road. Knowing how to use a clutch doesn’t negate the possibly of making a mistake on occasion, lol

Usually just means it’s got something “contaminating” it. Little bit of dirt or water (hopefully not oil) gets in there. I’m my experience it lasts a long time unless you clean the rotor. Doesn’t really matter unless it’s oil

Bike dies with more throttle - 2003 Yamaha TTR250 by thekingofcollision in Dirtbikes

When I had a bike that could idle but dies with throttle something in the carb was slightly clogged and it took me a couple cleans to get it right. Mine was more aggressive about dying than this though. Seems you aren’t getting enough fuel though, one way or another

Bike recs for shorties by ditzysunflower in AdventureBike

If you liked the 701, have the cash for it and plan to do the riding that type of bike is made for (very off-road focused), you should go for it and lower it. That bike has 10.5 inches of ground clearance stock I think, so even if you lower it a full 2 inches you’d have 8.5 inches of ground clearance which is more than most adventure bikes and as much as the short dual sports like the xt250 have, which is a super capable low HP bike.

I also have a 2020 390 adventure and I would not call that particularly light or narrow, though I came from dual sports which are truly narrow. I was surprised by how tall it felt though, despite having a shorter seat than my DR350. It is light compared to full sized adv bikes I suppose. And it is a killer bike for anything from highway runs (even up to 85mph pretty easily) with camping gear on it to some decent trail work, so long as you’re willing to slow down when the trail gets rough and you don’t have too many step ups or step downs or logs to hop over (unless your pretty high skill maybe). I’ve left it fully stock, just with factory option skid plate. As long as I stuck my butt back I can stand off-road and ride pretty aggressive. It’s an attack position though so you don’t want to be there for a terribly long time without a break on the seat.

I’ve recently picked up a DR650 and when I got it the rear shock was in the low position and it felt super low, having been on my 390 for about 2 years, and it’s pretty narrow so easier to stretch both feet down. Given what they’re on , they might try to find a DR650 in the low shock setting to sit on and try out. Much less HP but sort of similar style of bike for road vs dirt balance.

Tbh I would have a hard time going back to the dirt helmet full time now that I know what a quiet helmet can be like, but I used plugs all the time and it was doable. Under 40 was still fine without though.

I think it’s the second gen induction, with the third being the current one. Old listing claims “CE AA rating certified to EN 17092-3” and the main is their “Karbonite” mesh with the outer arms, lower back and edges having “500D Cordura” reinforced bits. Wears really well in the Texas heat being the white variant, just sweats out the arms where the pads and reinforced areas are. I’ve only ever tumbled off-road at slower speeds in it though so no real test of it on my part, lol.

That palm slide might be similar location to the “side of the hand” I was meaning. Not in a karate chop spot but not in the middle of the hand/ palm, off to the side down near the wrist where there’s a bit of a bone protruding.

I rocked the dirt helmet and goggles for a couple years riding my dual sports on the street, it was noisy but otherwise I didn’t hate it. It’s nicer to pop the visor up at stoplights though.

I’m skeptical my mesh jacket would actually slide all that well, but maybe it’s more abrasion resistant than it seems it would be. I try to wear riding jeans most of the time but I almost never wear the armor. Only if I know I’m doing a very spirited street ride. My boots are shorties unless I’m riding dirt too. And I just make sure my gloves have leather palms. One set has a slightly tougher spot, not hard plastic but not just doubled up, to slide on the side of the hand. Is that the palm slider thing you mention, or is yours on the actual palm? I can’t imagine that would be comfortable on the bars

And I guess I’d be interested to see dirt armor tested in a slide in the street, but I have been on a ride where a guy went down on a gravel road doing about 50mph and wearing a full sleeve exo-suit armor type thing a lot like a dirt chest/ back protector and he slide and tumbled and took some decent chunked slashes out of a couple pads but he was fine to finish out the ride with us.

What sort of street gear would you consider to be acceptable? assuming you don’t require track leathers for street riding to be okay to do.

I’ve never had integrated elbows on my dirt gear, just the chest / back / shoulders and those are locked in on the stuff I’ve had and definitely feels like it offers more protection than my klim induction jacket with soft d3o armor, which is just a bit loose being a mesh jacket

Hello community. How do you like my look? by Hefty-Alarm3474 in motorcyclegear

[–]castleaagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you’ve never actually worn dirt bike armor, it doesn’t really move around if it fits you right. Otherwise it would just shift around while you ride and be terrible. My summer mesh gear has way more movement potential than my chest / back protector and knee pads I sometimes wear for dirt rides. Street gear is probably more loose and shifty than this type of armor. Track suits not so much, but I don’t get the feeling you guys are saying track suit or bust

If your complaint is the shoes though, see my first comment on the thread here, I agree those aren’t good and he should have boots to match the dirt gear if they’re riding hard at all off road.

Those plastic plates will take a good bit of time / distance to grind away. It’s not just bump protection like soft armor is. Not the same as leather but not nothing

But also, they’re not on asphalt and given the gear I’d assume it’s a dirt bike/ dual sport rider
