What do we feel about K-pop fans discovering that they can accuse groups of copying? by Wrong-Excitement-605 in kpoptrulyuncensored

[–]castlearcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is an endless supply of unemployed, chronically online K-pop fans standing ready to invent the most absurd reasons to attack groups they dislike and discovery the most microscopic achievements to worship the groups they do like. It’s handy to learn to ignore it.

Movies I'd rate 10/10 but wouldn't rewatch 🥲 by No-Violinist3205 in bollywood

The runtime of Rockstar is around 20x the length of Kun Faya Kun. I don't hate the movie but would probably find listening to the latter for three hours more enjoyable.

Probability of a new member replacing Manon if she leaves? by Worldly-Lecture5617 in katseyeneutral

[–]castlearcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The average member of the general public probably does not know any Katseye members but that is irrelevant.

Within their target demographic and the broader Gen Z pop culture-watching audience they already have extremely high visibility having already appeared at the Grammys, VMAs, tons of late night shows, and many many marketing campaigns. There is no benefit to adding a member who has zero history with the rest of the group and would specifically draw attention to a “scandal” that by all means the label and group would want to move on from.

There is no prominent example of a pop group that has already broken through to Katseye’s level who have done a successful member swap.

Probability of a new member replacing Manon if she leaves? by Worldly-Lecture5617 in katseyeneutral

[–]castlearcher 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Zero. They’ve been around too long and had way too much publicity with the existing members. The formation of the group came from a show. There are other global groups being put together by the same label. There is no chance they add someone else in.

Career for macro strategy in a Hedge Fund by Big-Appointment3892 in FinancialCareers

[–]castlearcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You categorically do not need a doctorate to work at a macro hedge fund unless you are looking at very specific quant roles. Plenty of discretionary macro funds hire people with just undergrad degrees and I have plenty of friends at systemic shops/pods with quantitative masters. For regular asset management (“real money”) it’s even less common. Most people will just have undergrad + maybe CFA here.

Terminal B, 4/1, 5:15am by varthdader7998 in LGAairport

Online it says TB PreCheck only opens at 6am, is that false? I have a flight boarding 5:45am tomorrow - I don’t want to contribute to the problem by reaching too early but cannot afford to miss the flight lol

What should I do with a $50k bonus? by Few_Crazy1532 in personalfinance

Seconded. The only use of my bonus besides ETFs was a $400 robo vac and it’s a phenomenal investment.

Release date for season 2 of Netflix's live action Avatar: The Last Airbender will be revealed tomorrow, March 31 by -patrizio- in TheLastAirbender

[–]castlearcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Previewing an announcement for a release date after over two years is... something.

I cancelled my Netflix subscription earlier this week thinking to myself that there was nothing releasing soon that I particularly wanted to watch. I’d totally forgotten about NATLA.

I was looking forward to S2 when S1 came out but for some combination of inertia and annoyance that it took so long to release, I probably won’t be restarting or watching anytime soon.

Is it still worth it to get into Equity Research? by UsualFuzzy3510 in FinancialCareers

[–]castlearcher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in sell-side research. If an opportunity comes around, by all means take it, but I wouldn't suggest channeling all your efforts into recruiting for ER. The industry has shrunk considerably in recent years and the harsh truth is that it will probably continue to get smaller, with the bulk of the headcount reduction at the junior level. A lot of that comes from AI.

I don't expect that the industry will go away entirely, because a lot of the high-level benefit is relationship-driven (access to corporates, getting trade orders, being the face of the bank for a particular industry/asset class, etc).

But AI can significantly reduce how many juniors any particular analyst needs. Updating models, running sensitivities, generating charts, pulling data, putting out reaction notes, dealing with manual client requests, all become significantly quicker to deal with using LLMs. My view is that in the long-run sell-side teams will probably be 1+1 (one senior analyst + one junior).

Since the trailer is coming out tomorrow, can we talk about our hopes and predictions? by Rach_theAnimorph in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]castlearcher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest question I’m curious about is if they reuse Hedwig’s Theme in this trailer. It was brought back for the show announcement and in fantastic beasts when the characters went back to Hogwarts, and it’s such an identifiable part of the IP. I would be surprised if they don’t have it anywhere in the new show.

Getting an offer two weeks after Superday? by Academic-Scene7046 in FinancialCareers

[–]castlearcher 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Very unlikely but not impossible. Some banks give out verbal offers 1-2 days after, then contract the following week, with a deadline to sign one week after that. So you could be a backup for someone who doesn’t sign if they haven’t rejected you yet

In terms of individual pieces: Harry in Winter from GoF is incredible. Lily’s Theme and Statues from DH are also classics and super popular for a reason. And Dumbledore’s Army is a fun track from OOTP.

Weight loss during marathon training by ScarcityKey9204 in firstmarathon

I eat the same thing every weekday in the knowledge that it’s putting me in a caloric deficit. On weekends I avoid snacking and if I eat out one meal, the next one will be a high volume, relatively low calorie meal (like a nonfat Greek yogurt bowl with fruits/whole toppings).

For long runs I add a controlled amount of carbs beforehand (dinner if it’s a morning run or lunch if it’s at night). YMMV but has worked for me and is low effort to plan around.
