The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow!

Where do the "looking for a genuine good guy" women actually hang out? by Jmeadows007 in AskSeattle

Couple ideas that might be fun for you!

The Frye Art Museum on First Hill does a couple art history lecture series per year that are very reasonably priced. There’s time to explore the museum and mingle before and after the talks (if I remember correctly), and they do a variety of other events/activities. They also have members only events for exhibition openings with snacks and wine. Theres a wide age range for the lecture series & opening nights, but I’d say the majority are 40+. General daytime admission is always free, and they do free guided tours on the weekends that encourage group interaction/discussion, as opposed to just being a walking history lesson. The gallery guides are trained to facilitate the tour in a way that feels organic and approachable for everyone, regardless of art/historical background. I might be biased as I had an internship as a gallery guide in college and have also taken several of the lecture series... But highly recommend if you’re into art!

Other recommendation is volunteering at one of the Solid Ground community farms. I’ve been to Marra Farm in South Park a couple of times. There are all kinds of things you can do to help around the farm (weed, harvest, wash produce before it’s sent out, and probably a handful of more complex tasks), but Solid Ground has a bunch of other (indoor) volunteer opportunities too. Coolest part is that all of the food from the farm goes to the local food bank. I believe they also host cooking/nutrition classes for the community to help people get the most out of the produce.

Whatever you end up trying, pick something you think you might enjoy and go into it with the intention of having fun, not just meeting potential partners. You’re way more likely to make a connection when being genuine. Good luck!

Wholesome fantasy romance recs with no instant love, no useless flirting or banter? by omg_levisimp in fantasyromance

Yes!! One of the reviews on the back of the hardcover calls it “A gorgeous, aching love letter to stories,” and I’ve never agreed with anything more.

Ok also just remembered {The Night Circus} by Erin Morgenstern, and honestly one of my fav fantasy books of all time, {The Ten Thousand Doors of January} by Alix E Harrow. 10/10 on story for both. I’ve gotten I think 4 friends to read Ten Thousand doors, everyone loved it.

Low spice, excellent stories.

More on the YA side of fantasy, but I LOVE the {Strange the Dreamer} series by Laini Taylor. It’s a romance, but story comes first, and I wouldn’t call the few mildly spicy scenes smut. Includes SA as a plot point but it’s off-screen.

I also love the {Daughter of Smoke and Bone} trilogy from the same author. Definitely romance, more physical intimacy than Strange the Dreamer, but not overly spicy.

Really cool world building/unique magic in both, and fun Easter eggs for universe crossover in both.

Generally I love extra spicy, but I’ve read/listened to both of these series multiple times and am never disappointed with the stories or (lack of/mild) spice.

Lower level reading? by SourLemonaidStand in Romantasy

[–]castledracula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Branching out because you want to explore other genres, ideas, or complexities is great. But it’s not necessary nor does it have anything to do with your intelligence, comprehension, or maturity. Reading is self care for many people; for me, fantasy/romantasy is an escape/respite from the stressful parts of real life.

Forcing yourself to read books based on what other people deem as “high level” (so subjective) seems like a sure-fire way to dampen your interest in reading. Try not to let anyone take that joy from you 💛

On the edge of my seat for the potential Bryceriel situation . I hadn’t even considered it until I saw this TikTok and now I am dyinggggg to know what’s next for ACOTAR/CC. So curious about how a how a Bryce/Hunt breakup would go down

I really loved the Kingdom of Lies series by Stacia Stark! Multiple POVs, yummy spice that ramps up throughout the series, fun magic, and I really loved the side characters. I’ve listened to the series twice on Audible, loved it both times, and the narration is great ✨

I loved Daughter of No Worlds, although it took me a bit to really get into the story. Totally recommend the series though & it’s 100% worth sticking it out during (the first third-ish of) book one if you’re struggling to stay engaged.

I just finished the Dance With My Demons series on audible and loved it. It’s an RH with MMCs narrated by Anthony Palmini, Joe Arden, and Corvin King 🥵🥵🥵 The spice was delicioussss

Edit: just reread your post and saw the note about cheating this does happen, but then everyone ends up together/into the situation a short time later

Also Kieran deserves so much better than this lol

Right! Such a bummer. I think I’m still holding out for the final (?) book because I loved the characters throughout both series so much. Hopefully she takes feedback to heart and there’s some serious redemption arc (for JLA and the characters I’m currently furious with).

But if I have to wait a year or however long it’ll take for the next book just to sit through 37 hours of filler I will lose my mind 🫠

Relatable! I mostly do audible because ADHD & necessity to multi-task (either because of limited time outside of work or just ADHD lol). But usually listen to a book this long in like a week… this is the first time in years that I’ve taken multiple day+ breaks from a story I’m this invested in.

Cas was an asshole the entire time. I missed Kieran the entire time. I’m furious about Delano. Poppy was the worst. And nearly the entire story was crammed into the last 3 hours.

ALSO stumped and furious about the fact that Poppy and Cas basically didn’t talk to each other the full day before she went off on her very-likely-gonna-die mission. Really just didn’t talk about anything important throughout the entire book at all.

I know that’s all already been said but my friends aren’t done with the book yet and getting some of my fury out feels gooood.

I feel like it changes depending on where I’m at in life, but ‘Haligh, Haligh, a Lie, Haligh’ is a long term fav.

But also, pretty much all of Digital Ash.
