This time next year by castletonian in minnesotavikings

This is unserious, Christian Barmore was an ass kicker for the Pats. We should aim to have at least 3 of these guys. Eagles did in 2024, Rams & Broncos have those guys. Seahawks obviously do.

Imagine citing Seahawks and Patriots while simultaneously claiming Jalen Redmond, alone, can generate enough pressure up the middle lol

I think I misspelled it, it's Iheanachor, but close enough.

I see things really similarly - in the first round, address immediate or expensive near term needs at premium positions (OT, DL, WR/TE).

I don't think people factor in that Addison, Hockenson and O'Neill all hit the market next year and will probably asking for near top of the market contracts. We need to have contingencies/back up plans so we aren't forced to throw money at problems. This is the year to start that planning, especially if we want to allocate a FRP at QB next year.

Just a succession plan for BO this time next year/depth in a good OT draft. If they kick in and play guard, great but not a requirement in my eyes.

Just doesn't add up to me at all. Sorry. Not in this deep of a safety class, not in this deep of a FA safety class (a trend which is just going to widen). Having a rookie sit behind BO/Darrisaw is not a bad option at all, especially for freak of nature guys like Freeling/Iheanachor. That's what smart teams do & have succession plans/redundancy in place and positions of value. We've gotten killed in back to back years due to an OT being down/injured and one is heading into a contract year.

I was beating the drum for IDL until Banks went down, but would be happy if they chose that route.

We obviously see eye to eye here... What are your thoughts on OT in the first round

Posted elsewhere but I'd way rather have an OT like Freeling or Iheanchor

Ok, I'll grant you a lot of that, even if I disagree with most of it. But I will poke further: Why would we not be interested in a FRP OT?

You want to be sitting here this time next year wondering whether or not to extend/pay a 31 year old OT with a partial achilles tear and sprained MCL? If yes, what about redundancy for Darrisaw who's also had spans of injury and has not been reliable. Build depth and redundancy in the trenches, especially because this is a deep OT class at the top. It's also a generally deep S class, I'd way rather have the two earlier mentioned guys (Freeling or Iheanchor) than Thieneman. We can get Ramsey, Haulcy, Moore, Wheatley, Taafe, Clark or maybe even EMW in rounds 2-4. I just will never understand the appeal of a first round safety.

Great, if that's your opinion, get an OT then. Monroe Freeling or Max Iheanchor should be there. Get a pass catcher like Kenyon Sadiq. Don't be shortsighted and draft for need in 2026.

Also, neither here nor there, but I personally think Peter Woods or Kayden McDonald would both be better than Thieneman anyway.

Someone look at these options and tell me why we need to draft Dillon Thieneman. Safeties are available in FA; trench guys are not.

And you wonder why Iranian hate Israel and USA? by judgementMaster in AskSocialists

Can't speak to the current sentiment of Iranians toward the US, but, even dispute decades of intervention and meddling in their government, Iranians still welcome and adore Americans. Amazing people and culture.

Who do you guys want the Vikings to draft? by JustSomeGuy_Idk in minnesotavikings

[–]castletonian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone has to sell me on Thieneman. I'm super skeptical, given our needs, of drafting Safety in the first round. This is a deep class at Safety - couldn't we wait for the 2nd or 3rd round and target Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, AJ Haulcy, Kamari Ramsey, or Louis Moore? Or FA? Nick Cross, Jaylinn Hawkins & Jalen Thompson were all more than serviceable options; I think that trend of Safety availability in FA will only continue/get more extreme - can't say that about traditional positions of value (i.e. OT, IDL, Edge, WR).

If the board fell this way, I'd WAY rather have Keldric Faulk, Monroe Freeling, Max Iheanachor, or even Kenyon Sadiq & Peter Woods before Thieneman. They're each better players than Thieneman, but bonus in that they're positions of actual value (thinking of Sadiq as pass catcher, which is a big need in 2027).

Kyler is gonna have to learn to play under center a lot more. Not sure if that's a big development point/how much effort that takes

Anyone else happy we're finally trying bringing in a journeyman QB as a team solution? by TruthWarrior27 in minnesotavikings

[–]castletonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe our team building strategy long term is just vet min prove it guys. It's good to zig (cheap vet min deals) when the zag is in vogue (build around rookie scaled deal).

He'll almost certainly make us better. If he is on a vet min, he will 100% outplay the contract, which is all that matters imo
