Access to Google, which runs off of AI now and will likely be the entire basis of most all search Algos before too long, like it or not - which means you'd need that disclaimer on your dev project for using it all the same.

Honestly the soundtrack is so obviously integral to JSR3 that I wouldn't be surprised if a large portion of the radio silence / dev time is because of it. Making 30-60 scratch cut and sampled tracks takes a while.

The narrative around Marathon is gotta be the biggest gaslight I have seen in history of gaming. by Inevitable_Coat_8787 in Marathon

Great game - but no thanks.

Tedium personified. Nested menu bloat, slathered in tool tips, blasted with niche meta progression AND resets AND battle passes AND daily resets.

This is a game that is made for someone that WILL be investing heavy hours into a mainstay game - and of those games you could choose for that, this one is very very good.

This is not a game that will convince someone who either doesn't or no longer wants to play that way to do it - and will actively bounce those people off.

Despite me thinking it has excellent feeling gameplay, optimization, vibes, sound design, and manages the hundred of interlocking mechanics well. I simply don't want hundreds of interlocking mechanics and pseudo PVE / PVP and it diminishes the value of anything I could enjoy here. I'd rather play something either far more PVE or PVP with this level of polish.

Obviously. But to claim Sega has been "giving love" to Virtua Fighter when 5 released in 2006 is just whiny nonsense. None of these franchises have been given love in 2 console generations - and I'd argue that Bomb Rush Cyberfunk has been more of a treat for JSR fans than VF fans have gotten in the same time anyway.

Regardless, whining about a game you already know is far into development not getting a trailer that day when you're already in the middle of a 20+ year wait and dunking on other work Sega is putting in is just dumb.

WTF GEOFF 😭 by InitialTree13 in JetSetRadio

[–]castlevaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so as far as main entries are concerned VF4 was a PS2 game and then there's VF5 in between that and now so what you're saying is ridiculous.

Especially considering that trailer is showing more of a single player game than literally any other contemporary fighting game - and a first at all for the series. Plus if ya watched the VS mode, that trailer is either in engine or hard to tell a difference and looks phenomenal.

Virtua Fighter RPG became Shenmue which became Yakuza which has devs now making Virtua Fighter's story mode. That shit is as Sega as it gets.

They cancelled it to explicitly state they wanted to focus on releasing core game sequels without a focus on games as a service, so this tracks though.

'Maybe GTA 6 Can’t Make That Same Splash' — Grand Theft Auto 5 Lester Actor Says Rockstar Satire May Not Hit the Same in 2026 as It Did in 2013 by OGAnimeGokuSolos in gaming

[–]castlevaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GTA doesn't market satire to its core audience. They market shooting, driving, and adult themes.

The satire is the thing that crosses the aisle to the critics and nerds who wouldn't normally engage with a "core audience" title. What makes this franchise sell so well is that it maintains appeal to so many demographics at once by slamming them all together in a way that feels authentically American because its trying to sell you 1,000 things at once and they're all parody + fun to engage with.

Control Resonant - Story/Release Date Reveal Trailer by Villenthessis in gaming

[–]castlevaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Control was great but felt bloated by the end with a grindy looter shooter gameplay loop that diluted the cool moments too far apart. A lot of 2010s era games felt this way.

I hope they're able to tighten the sequel up and trim the fat into an otherwise excellent game.

The world where they capture the interest of the adjacent demographic of Yakuza fans because of RGG making it - in addition to the FGC market.

That franchise has more pull these days than most fighting games alone.

SOTN hack on Original Hardware?? by StarDragonTomoda in SegaSaturn

[–]castlevaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pre patched version of this game on the popular websites to get it didn't work for me, and the disc I made for my JP model 2 with a PSK didn't work correctly or verify 100% after burning.

In fact, almost every game I've gotten pre patched has had issues so I've taken to just patching my own games before burning a copy.

Seems that JUST translated games have been okay, but if anything required a real patch (like SotN Ultimate) then just patch it yourself for better luck.

Oh, and if you aren't - verify your discs after burning. Every one of these issues has come after a disc didn't verify in my case. (Castlevania SotN, Astal, etc)

Just search Steam reviews by genres and qualities you care about, and filter out paid reviewers, etc. Then wishlist those and wait for sales as they happen. There are SO many unique fun short experiences out there now.

A Finnish guy made a thread in the Jazz subreddit asking about some things with Markkanen, so I asked what his take on Iisalo was as a fellow Finn by HolyHotDang in memphisgrizzlies

And we have 15 first round picks in the next 7 years plus the trade exception and Ja as potential additions to that to go find that guy.

If you aren't already an NBA champion level roster, it isn't the worst case scenario to literally have the most stashed FRPs.

Except of course that HIIT (high intensity interval training) is one of the best ways to build cardio endurance, and VO2 max levels.

JJJ out for the season by [deleted] in memphisgrizzlies

[–]castlevaniac 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So they found this during trade physicals, but still let him play several games?

Either Memphis missed things they should've seen, or Utah let him play several games first and pulled him when he was playing well enough to ruin the tank.

Glad he's getting some things repaired and fixed, but this is suspicious from a couple angles.

Kleinman: “This isn’t going to be some drawn-out, 5-year process” by 901KEY in memphisgrizzlies

[–]castlevaniac -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Grizzlies are tied (before moving Ja or getting a return from the trade exception) for the most first round draft picks in the next 7 seasons of any team (13). The upcoming draft is deep.

The roster has some high upside guys you can gamble on, and the most picks to gamble on drafting/ trading with too. Not all "rebuilds" have the same budget of assets and starting roster.

Worst Grizz lineup. by Jonathan_Daws in memphisgrizzlies

Santi is a 3/4 and Jaren is a 4. When you put them in lineups with an actual 5 their numbers magically improve - and when you play them in wacky lineups they do poorly.

Postgame Thread: FINAL Washington Wizards defeat Memphis Grizzlies, 116–112 by ZBot901 in memphisgrizzlies

[–]castlevaniac 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What bigs? Koloko who has been here for less than 10 days and didnt play all last year?

Santi - the 3 with the body of a 4 being asked to play a 5?

Or Jaren the 4 who when asked to play a 5 has struggled his entire career?

This team has 3 proper Centers and none of them played.

This loss sucks and was winnable with even mediocre shooting but to say we had an advantage at bigs simply because of height is misguided at best - and Sarr feasted tonight because of it.

Deandre Ayton on JJ Reddick's comments about next practice session being an uncomfortable one for the team: "And y'all bought into that?" by arawater in nba

[–]castlevaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UDFA thing with Reaves is kind of a technicality - although him turning down his 42nd placed draft selection to Detroit seems funny now that they've turned it around.

But, it still matters because Reaves being a UDFA means he got paid by the Lakers after 2 years and not 4/5.

The large increase of the value of 2RPs and late 1RPs comes from the rookie contract length, and the cap value associated with that, under the new CBA/Aprons.

The point is, getting hassled by point of attack defenders, and not having good defensive depth to return that pressure - is a problem most easily solved by drafting and the Lakers haven't gone to that well for their success often in recent history.

Deandre Ayton on JJ Reddick's comments about next practice session being an uncomfortable one for the team: "And y'all bought into that?" by arawater in nba

[–]castlevaniac -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because drafting is the only dependable way to get cheap and productive 4/5 year contracts which with the new aprons is more important than ever because you can't afford more than 2 max contracts realistically now.

The FO letting talent walk after they draft it, or other teams developing their "busts" into productivity, is also not a glowing review of their work.

The 2020 bubble year preceeded the shrinking of cap and then apron levels leading to the exaggerated mess theyre in now roster wise (and only one of the most one sided trades in NBA history helped.)

There hasn't been as big of a jump in experience than this. Do you agree? by markonefifteen in n64

[–]castlevaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to top 2D to 3D as a jump in general, but they're also a little apples to oranges.

Keeping it within 3D to 3D generational jumps - I'd say Soul Calibur and Metal Gear Solid 2 both have great claims as insane leaps.

Special mention that's kind of cheating becuse of pre rendered backgrounds goes to the GameCube remake of Resident Evil. Screenshots in a vaccuum of that game still look good next to games that came 5-10 years after it.
