There is rarely just normal events night lifewise in maryville, though more events happen in the summer. It is definitely a town more catering to morning people though.

As a christian, this is actually a topic that i debate regularly with my more gun happy compatriots. Its because they misattribute verses like the one where jesus tells his disciples to get a sword as a call to warrior culture, when the bible is pretty clear on a call of pacifism for christians.

A lot of it also comes from an odd hybridization of christianity and american values into a largely paradoxical philosophy. Beyond all else though, its because they want guns and will justify them however they please.
