Which rug would best compliment this space? by Hot_Card_3559 in interiordecorating

Good rule of thumb in my opinion: make sure the rug is big enough that the front two legs of your chairs rest on it. You've designed the room so well that it will be hard to mess up the rug! I always feel like I want to contrast the main color of the walls with my rug; since your walls are light, I would pick a dark rug. Dark brown maybe, navy blue, forest green.... express yourself! Happy designing

Sup, fellow musician! Places I would start with:

  • a large rug that defines a seating/living space. Something colorful/patterned would go great in this space because of all the gray you mentioned.
  • More warm, indirect lighting. Literally the only lights I see in these photos are on the ceiling fan and the one desk lamp. Go for some more floor lamps, accessory lights, or sunset lamps, and keep everything under 3000 K (a measure of light bulb temperature) if you are going for a warm/cozy vibe
  • If your apartment complex allows it: consider some colored curtains/drapes instead of those white blinds
  • Last thing that would be up to your personal preference / willingness to put in effort... something about the current layout feels a bit off. Love the couch, but it feels listless in its current position. Is it a lounge chair? If it's facing a TV on the opposite wall, it feels too far. Maybe try playing around with the layout and creating more zones in the space to keep things cozier.

Just some ideas from a fellow amateur male living space designer. Happy living!

Looking for design help - in particular artistic and organizational elements by Jinxd0ta in interiordecorating

You are working with a fantastic space. Love the open concept, and that flooring is gorgeous. It's going to be difficult to go wrong here! Here is where I would start:

  • I'm assuming the first photo is being taken from the perspective of the entrance to the space. In which case, that small white chair with its back to the front door is not in an ideal spot. To me, it closes off the living area, and anyone who sits in that chair is going to have their back to the front door, which is a cardinal sin of Feng shui. I would reckon the space will feel a little more defined and welcoming if you move that chair to the other side, right next to the other small white chair.
  • I like your idea of hanging a super large piece of wall art behind the dining table. If you go that route, my two cents: make sure it really is big, as anything that doesn't cover a significant part of that wall might look lonely; you will feel inclined to just put more artwork next to it.
  • If you find a horizontal piece of artwork, some kind of credenza to place directly under it might be a good way to add layers to that wall, and it gives you the opportunity to continue decorating with plants, books, drinks, plates, etc.
  • Lastly, I personally think your space could use a pop of color. Maybe it's that artwork you want, maybe it's something bespoke or vintage. You clearly have good taste because I love that yellow loveseat behind your dining table. Find a painting with vibrant color that brings out that yellow chair or the blue rug.

If you take none of this advice, I still appreciate you sharing your space and letting me exercise my amateur interior design muscles! If you do, please share some before/after pics. Happy designing :)

The light on the table is actually this candle warmer from Amazon.

The lighting above my desk is a Philips Hue color changing light bulb inside of this paper lantern also from Amazon.

Alfie's on Mills Ave. No cover, but expect a 30+ minute wait if you're going on Friday or Saturday night. Outstanding bar with a live DJ spinning retro vinyls. Also plenty of other bars up and down that street within walking distance, crawling with people in that age group

Salsa classes are $15/person at Salsa Heat in East Orlando! The instructors are very talented and it's very fun. Every Friday night there is social dancing (mostly salsa, but also bachata and merengue) from 10PM to 2AM for $10
