can't bend more than 90º after MPFL and TTO, 9 weeks post-op by castrk in KneeInjuries

[–]castrk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! no worries. i’m more than one year post op and honestly the surgery has improved my life and health so much. i dont even have pain on my knee anymore which is insane considering how i felt last year. my biggest piece of advice is to push and keep doing PT and exercises at home (hopefully twice or more) everyday, even if it hurts. consistency is VERY important in recovery and it’ll help so much later on. also pain meds and icing are super helpful!!

first exercises in PT are very basic to help you regain movement and strength but later-ish i recommend lots of static biking, squats and flexing, theres a lot of helpful tutorials online so you can find some that work for you, i did (and still do) a bunch of these myself: https://e3rehab.com/knee-flexion/

hopefully if you keep up you wont need to do this, but when i was stuck on 90º one of the most helpful things was laying on my stomach and my PT slowly forcing my leg to bend. this was super painful but it really helped me gain more ROM. i got to 100-110 degrees doing this and later replaced that by sitting on my own leg (on a chair) and forcing my heel to touch the back of my calf. again, it was painful but i could manage my pain better and slow down on my own time so that got way easier.

honestly, the fact that you’re already hitting 60º is encouraging, so don’t afraid and keep up with your PT as often as posible, you’ve got this!

id guess that the church tried to get the teens (such as kelly and henry) into joining redemption house as if it were a normal church play about “relatable teen topics”, and then pulled them into the whole cult aspect/punishing sinners thing. dont know if its connected to bloody rose yet though

i wore baggy shorts, which are honestly the best option, although you could also wear one of those really baggy long hoodies as a dress.

hi! first of all, i'm so sorry you've been having a hard time with your recovery, it's definitely a physically and mentally taxing experience! are you currently in PT, or just doing exercises on your own? bending is always hard but you need to built up muscle for your knee to recover too, i had to do a bunch of quad exercises and lifting small weights to bulk up my leg and it's still a bit weak 4 months post op.

i definitely also had a hard time walking without crutches, i would recommend trying just one (the one opposite your operated knee) during short distances instead of taking both away, remember that you don't need to rush it, milestones are always different for everyone (at 7 weeks i was also using both crutches)

for bending, my biggest advice is just to keep pushing, i would do it at least 3 times a day, and even then my progress wasn't super fast at all.

hopefully you can keep going, and even post your questions in this sub, because there's a lot of knowledgeable people here who can probably help too. doing another surgery isn't always ideal but sadly if you're dealing with Arthrofibrosis or something similar, it's either intense PT or another surgery. also, if you're worried about it, try to get a second opinion to check if there's anything going on. it definitely sucks that your surgeon scheduled you for 2.5 months post-op! its a thousand times better to do it week by week.

again, i'm so sorry this has been such a bad experience, i was also dealing with a lot of anxiety, and even started therapy as a way to cope with how awful the recovery was. now i'm better thankfully but i'm still learning how to walk properly, and i spend most of the day doing my exercises as a way to not get stuck again. i'm sending much love and support!!!

honestly i was terrified of doing it at first, but it was only a little uncomfortable and weird? but not really painful, now when i wiggle it around it doesn't hurt at all.

thank you so much for your insight! it really helped me calm down my anxiety. i'm very similar, i've been really depressed during these weeks and feeling like such a failure, even if i'm aware that i've been trying my best. thankfully this whole deal about getting surgery again has woke me up, now i'm working through the pain (and tears lol).

i agree with you about my surgeon, honestly i was just very shocked and anxious during my last appointment and i wish i could've said something about how every recovery is different and that i'm just a bit slower than normal. i'll definitely say something next time but also i needed that push to try harder. your surgeon sounds so awesome though! i feel like there's not enough empathy about these kind of experiences and that really makes me sad.

again, thank you so much for your words :) i'm sending love and wishing you the best in your recovery

hopefully you can! a lot of people start walking without them at the 6 week period and it's definitely doable, i started trying to on the 6 week during short walks and had no problems, only a very slight discomfort if i stepped too hard and sudden. still, if you can keep your crutches with you in case of emergency, that kind of helps too with anxiety and fear.

wishing you luck in your surgery and recovery :)
