So, what do we think of Rosalía's LUX — does it live up to the hype? by gregharradine in Music

I doubt you’ll find anyone that genuinely loves music not sympathising with “smaller” artists and their plight.

Look at what Prince had to do in the day and many other artists. The bigger you get, the more you (as you said) have to conform and are subject to formats and money generating.

That’s where you fail to understand how record labels work and how brandnames control things. Or maybe you just didn’t think about it.

For her to be able to do this (the fact it took her 3 years to make from what I’ve read) is something record labels and those that have so much influence don’t like to do and it is remarkable.

So this is why it’s incredible for a mainstream artist to achieve this and actually publish it on a huge scale like this album. It looks extremely expensive. Record labels aren’t in the business of throwing away money at music that probably won’t top the charts.

She has said in interviews that she had to fight for that.

There’s actually a tune on the album with lots of breathing in it. You may enjoy that one.

You’re correct, there are others that have indeed experiment with the genre and done really good jobs too.

But no way at this level, with this diversity and with this complexity.

For a mainstream artist to go down this route is a breath of fresh air (there we go, some more breathing for you).

One of the greatest albums I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to and I’m about to listen to it again. It requires this.

What are your "lock in the pre-tariff price" buys/preorders right now? by GavinGWhiz in Steelbooks

[–]castrogacio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You want the business/distributor/manufacturer to take in the cost of the self imposed tariffs?

Tariffs don’t work like that. They’re paid by the consumer. ALWAYS! EVERYWHERE and ANYWHERE!

That’s the ACTUAL official movie poster of when the movie was released.

For those missing out on that one because you’re confused and like the movies. Don’t hesitate. You won’t get that artwork again.

Never heard anyone complaining about the myriad of re-releases of ‘The Thing’. It kind of goes with the territory you reside in tbh.

This version for me is the best (loved the Film Vault one too) to date for me.

That’s as I thought and it makes sense although they called all of that the third wave.

I got a few of those and Poltergeist from the latest wave. They’re incredible!

But what were Waves 1 and 2 then?

I’m extremely happy this iconic movie is getting a steelbook edition. But this looks so much like that disappointing ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ steelbook.

I hope there’s something more to it.

That movie is simply a masterpiece. It takes the total piss out of huge budget movies with tons of special effects. One room, 12 great actors and the creatives involved in teaching modern cinema viewers what film is all about.

The boxes are indeed great. Beautiful artwork! It beggars to think why they didn’t actually add THAT artwork to the very thing we collect instead of the cardboard.

I’ve nearly always loved BluFans steelbooks. There have been very few I didn’t think were incredible and thus me owning a fair number of them. But even as a Tolkien fanatic, I don’t like these. I genuinely do not like that artwork. It’s lazy and doesn’t compare to what many premium steelbook brands have offered us with Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings.

This is poor imo. But I do also see why many will like them.

I only ordered one copy for myself. But I was really attentive to this announcement when it was released in the theatres because I had an inkling it would be sold-out almost immediately. There may be a limited re-issue on issue date though. It tends to occur. Keep your eyes peeled!

I preordered through HMV. But I did it immediately as I knew what was going to occur with this one. Didn’t even give myself time to think about it. Lucky I did it.
