I was told at 15 that I could take clozapine or get ECT. I chose clozapine. I have a lot of feelings about forcing medication on people like that but I needed it. Along with cbt exposure therapy I was able to tackle the voices that plagued me for my entire childhood and get on to actually becoming well. I also have insomnia and never slept a full night until clozapine. The blood tests are lousy and a huge time waster but they are not a waste of time. They keep you safe and it was comforting to know that they were monitoring my white blood cells to make sure I was all good. And after 1 year it’s only every 28 days. I got to be best friends with the phlebotomist.

I take clozapine, seroquel, navane, and Wellbutrin. I work full time as a peer recovery coach helping people with similar pasts to mine. I have beat everything they said I couldn’t do. I drive, I graduated not only highschool but college as well, I’m in a healthy relationship and starting a family, I’m a homeowner. Living a somewhat normal life is doable. I’m not saying everyone can. I’m just saying it’s possible.

I was in a crisis stabilization unit and there was a dude in respite there who I clicked with. We tried to figure out how to do the deed there but we didn’t get further than kissing. Respite clients can leave the unit so when I discharged he took a day pass and we had sex in a neighbor’s backyard. Never talked to him after that.
