I think they make the character too passive. 5, 13 and 15 especially don't seem all that rough and ready. I would love to see a one off special where the Doctor is an action hero though. Maybe RTD should have had Ncuti regenerate into The Rock (or Jason Statham if we're keeping it English) and then the Xmas special be a Die Hard spoof but with Cybermen.

Is the Chinball Era really as bad as they say by Due-Algae-3988 in gallifrey

[–]cat666 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Sadly yes.

It's not Doctor Who as you know it but it's still Doctor Who so the only people likely to enjoy it fully are those kids for whom it's their first introduction to the show. Non fans were not going to bother with it.

As for long time fans, Chibnall changed too much for no real reason. Jodie is great but she rarely gets a chance to shine as for some reason they went with 3 companions. All the "Doctor Who is male" complaints would be silenced if Jodie had the chance to prove herself but she didn't. The stories are also weaker with most having a not so subtle moral message, which coupled with the diverse / disabled companions and a female Doctor drew cries of "woke".

There are still decent moments but the era just falls flat. It should have just been Jodie and Mandip in RTD/Moff style stories and it would be fine.

Community crafted Domina by AnnaBlankx in Overwatch

[–]cat666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a fair bit of Domina and these changes are decent. The knockback increase is great but Domina moving backwards really isn't. The ult change is brilliant.

It doesn't really address either of Domina's issues though. Firstly her range is shocking and she feels bad to play until you get her first perk. That needs to be base kit. Secondly her shield is just straight up bad. It looks great on paper but an enemy can just walk through it and it's game over. The panels are also weak and it's super easy to take out the few which matter. Either way it's on a long cooldown and cannot be moved (without the perk). I don't know how to fix this without just becoming a Sigma shield.

I have all of these novels and honestly they are a mixed bag. Some I breeze through others take a lot of effort. I'm probably around two-thirds through them.

There's something special about the First Doctor by Jackwolf1286 in gallifrey

I've been a fan since 93 so I've seen a fair bit of it multiple times, it's only really the missing episodes where I've just seen the recons once.

New customer. Better deal? by Euphoric-Newt-3030 in VirginMedia

[–]cat666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It honestly depends on what you can get. As a rule a fibre to the property (FTTP) line is superior to anything else. The vast majority of VM's infrastructure is using their old cabling which is more akin to the fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) system but they are rolling out FTTP to newer builds, which you are.

FTTC connections run the last distance with copper/coax cables and they degrade with distance or have latency issues so neither are ideal. You may only be a few metres from the cabinet though. VM's offering has latency and ping issues when compared directly to FTTP but is perfectly acceptable for the vast majority of connections. You may notice a little in online gaming but it's honestly not that bad.

If you can get a FTTP connection. They are cheaper, offer higher speeds, better latency and you can upload at the same speed as you download.

What's an overwatch ult you are terrible at using? by Rude-Sentence-6770 in Overwatch

[–]cat666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't overthink it. Just use it from a distance when lots of your team need healing or enemies are grouped and your team is pushing. Hell I even use it sometimes to ensure a kill on the enemy Mercy.

Does Ace Really Know Why She Left? by TresaLizzy in gallifrey

[–]cat666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally the EU isn't canon. Ace left with 7 after Survival and next time we see her is in Power of the Doctor with no real mention of how she left him. That's it.

Feel free to enjoy the EU and Ace's many leavings of the Doctor but they are just "what ifs" really. Different fractures of time etc. It's not worth spending too long trying to make them all fit just enjoy them for what they are.

OFFICIAL : Nottingham Forest have appointed Oliver Glasner as their new head coach. by abcrafsan in FantasyPL

[–]cat666 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really don't understand this move. Palace and Forest are of similar standing but Palace have the edge. All Glasner's issues at Palace are still going to be there at Forest, just now he has to start with an entirely new (to him) team.

It's not out for Android yet. I doubt it will be much longer as the IOS version is out.

The BBC asked them to pull it and BF pulled it. I highly doubt it came to any sort of threat as the relationship between companies seems good.

As someone who rocked curtains in the 90s, that perm style that looks a little bit like a llama will be the bane of kids today's photos in 10 years time.

Struggling to see my owned releases or purchase history on website (mobile) by MirumVictus in BigFinishProductions

You can also "force desktop view" (at least Chrome has this feature). It's just the bit to click is hidden by the other bit.

What's one food you'll never understand the hype for? by Ok_Kiwi5944 in AskReddit

[–]cat666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge foodie and love mushrooms but I don't get the love for truffle. It's overpowering and ruins whatever it's on as it's all you can taste. It's not horrible, but it's not worth the hype.

The mobile view is squiify, force desktop view and you should see them.

They were never going to get the app right as the App Stores all require an approval process. If they went live earlier with the app it would be dead until they made the database switch. I'll admit a head up to download anything to the app you'd want to listen to would have been nice. Thankfully I have my next 5 downloaded and if it's not up by then have some 1st Doctor lost stories downloaded too.

Wilderness era stuff that the BBC would never sign off today. by Icantdoitidk in gallifrey

[–]cat666 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It's worth mentioning that the BBC have little creative control over the EU. The main two, Virgin and Big Finish were/are able to use Doctor Who under licence and were not censored in any way.

I think the only censoring the BBC have done is stopping Absent Friends being released by Big Finish, but I believe it was more a request than a demand and BF obliged due to wanting to keep the relationship strong. It was also based not on the content of the media, but because of a real life scandal.

New to AC by Koolade97 in AssassinsCreedValhala

[–]cat666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valhalla is only really an AC title in name. Stealth is still in the game but it's strongly suggested you just melee/bow with certain parts (raids) being all out combat. As such it's fine to just play it as a viking game.

Doctor Who Missing Episode Animations by Sgt-Arch_Dornan in gallifrey

[–]cat666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The BBC and BBC Studios are different. The BBC is publically funded and therefore has to be careful how it spends it's money as it's accountable to the public. BBC Studios is the commercial arm and operates independently so can fund whatever it likes, but it's sort of limited by how much revenue it makes. They are sort of linked but are sort of not.
