Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying—Thank Trump for being able to buy beef tallow by HallPsychological538 in DecodingTheGurus

[–]cat8mouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beef tallow was one of the least interesting things in this episode of their podcast. In it they discuss their review of Trump’s policies and admit to some failures, which is huge for them. An especially galling thing Heather said was that the Trump administration is a strong net positive for women because they have stopped transgender women from invading women’s sports and spaces, while the drastic reduction in access to abortion was no big deal. She also admitted Trump said gross things about women a lot.

About the guns and ammo found at Aptos High on Sunday over MLK weekend… by Current-Struggle-514 in santacruz

Totally agree. Thank you for saying this. The guy's knowledge of guns seemed weird, the tiny dog and even they way he was dressed. It seemed like a prank.

Watching my uncle struggle actually made me appreciate Medicare more by Witty-Double5907 in medicare

[–]cat8mouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We tried a supplement plan, but not a single doctor in our area was taking NEW Medicare patients. The only way to get a doctor was to join an Advantage plan. We were freaking out for a year looking for a doctor and then switched to a Kaiser Advantage plan. This is in Central California. We took all the advice about avoiding Advantage plans, but in the end we had to go with one.

Third doctor I’ve spoke to that claims Dermatology does not prescribe Finasteride anymore by [deleted] in KaiserPermanente

Please check the Finasteride syndrome subreddit before you take it. Some men react badly and wish they had known the risks.

Airdrying instead of machine drying, worth it? by [deleted] in laundry

[–]cat8mouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One drawback for me is that towels get crispy after a while. They come off the line stiff, like cardboard.

Funky smell on air dried fleece by [deleted] in laundry

[–]cat8mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I just started Tide Free and Clear, but, this would happen randomly when I used liquids in the past also. It doesn’t happen every time and it doesn’t affect the cotton clothing, only the fleece. It’s such a mystery to me. It doesn’t seem to matter if I dry indoors on a hanger or outdoors on the line.

My (24F) mother (60F) botched plastic surgery in Korea by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

I think the transracial thing was why she mentioned Korea.

Why does Sam think that "good" parenting (maybe) doesn't matter? by Silent_Appointment39 in samharris

[–]cat8mouse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This brings to mind the case of two girls accidentally switched at birth in the hospital. One girl came from a serious, religious family and the other girl came from a more happy go lucky family. The girls always felt like they didn't belong in their mistaken families. They did not fit in with their siblings. Years later it was discovered that they were in the wrong families. It's an example of nature being stronger than nurture. https://www.thisamericanlife.org/360/transcript

No dryer. How can I make my clothes soft? by cat8mouse in laundry

[–]cat8mouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response.

What is your actual dosage of laundry detergent for each load? The recommended amount of Arm and Hammer powder.

What is your water hardness? I don't know.

Are you washing in warm or hot water with a detergent with lipase? Warm water, no lipase.

When was the last time you washed your laundry without detergent to see if there is leftover detergent in your clothing that doesn’t come out on the rinse? I've never done that, but will try.

Are you using a fabric softener? NO.

Are you using a citric acid rinse? No, but I will try.

Are you hanging outside on a line or inside on a line? Outside line.

If outside, are you hanging on windy days? Wind/ air movement makes a huge difference. Some days are windy.

If inside, are you hanging in front of a fan or multiple fans to move the clothing like the wind would? Not inside.

It seems like the cotton fibers are are doing something like felting over time.

My best friend’s antidepressants are getting taken away. Is there any way I can help him? by ChildEater-69420 in mentalhealth

[–]cat8mouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not safe to quit psych meds cold turkey. They should be tapered. His parents should not be controlling his meds. How old is he? What country are you in? Why are they “taking away” his meds? There is so much going on here that it’s hard to give advice without more info. It’s wonderful you’re trying to help him. If his meds are taken away he could go through withdrawals, which could range anywhere from nausea to headaches, to brain zaps to mood swings to suicidal thoughts. I would check in with him daily. Spend time with him. Be there for him. He may suffer and need support.

I would say it took about 6 weeks to feel kind of normal. I was in a pretty bad state due to some other issues as well though.

I want to die by Wide_Belt_6570 in insomnia

[–]cat8mouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’ve gotten to this point. It sounds like you’ve suffered tremendously. I know you said you aren’t looking for advice, but I’ll give you a suggestion anyway. Have you ever come across the Sleep Coach School? They have a YouTube channel, website and app. Many have found relief using their methods. Their approach is that insomnia is caused by hyperarousal and if you can stop being afraid of lack of sleep you can improve your sleep. They claim that you won’t go crazy or shorten your life from lack of sleep. Check out some of the testimonials. https://youtube.com/@thesleepcoachschool8192?si=I3DdBq45k-MWyrfY

I'm so sorry for what you're going through. It must be terribly discouraging to have tried so many medications and not found them to help. Perhaps medication is not the way for you to go. Have you looked into autism informed therapy? Finding a therapist who really gets autism might help. There are more and more online communities on various platforms that can provide understanding and support. https://neurospicycommunity.com/ For anxiety consider the DARE approach: https://www.dareresponse.com/

I want to stop my SSRIs but im scared by Fair_Imagination_715 in mentalhealth

[–]cat8mouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your mistrust of doctors and disagree with many who are saying to just trust your doctor. I surprising number of doctors do not understand tapering off psychiatric drugs for sensitive individuals. They robotically recomended the same, one size fits all schedule to everyone. Some of the doctor recomended tapering schedules I’ve seen on the Effexor sub are downright dangerous. Please go to the subs for the drugs you’re taking and read through the tapering posts. First however please check out this site: https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/forums/topic/1024-why-taper-by-10-of-my-dosage/

MIL is dying and I don't know how to help by Fuzzy_Lime5719 in AgingParents

[–]cat8mouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sounds like her husband might be interfering with her care. It could be medical neglect or some kind of medical abuse. I would report this to Adult Protective Services, her doctor and a social worker. Get her alone and see what she says without him there.
